I'm an MBBS doctor and I'm poor, individually and as a family 😓 Don't do medicine kids, it's not worth it. 50k ka salary milta hai Bangalore mein. MD karliya toh 70-80k milti hai. Aur ab NEET ke baad private seat ka fees hai 8L, toh after emi for MD also it will be 50-60k net income only😭
I am in the medical field.The way i see it is that you have financial stability for a long duration.there is no retirement age and your growth is exponential not like bellcurve of IT and other industries

Namaskar Sir, I have always lived a very simple life. Your words are absolutely true. There was a time when Indians used to spend within limits and saved more. But lately things have changed and we are going the way how westerners are spending. They have social security which is absent in India. We are also not an industrialized or enterprising nation. This limits our ability to bring money into our nation. We are looking for social approval but not looking for financial freedom. Let us hope things will change for the better.
Agree , Minimum Rs 50,000 per person in family should be the income according to current tax slab to be middle class. Total income of family should be greater than equal to >= Rs50,000 multiply by total number of family members to be middle class.

India has a problem with middle class looking down on working class. As a student in canada. I worked part time with students whose parents can be called canadian middle class or upper midde class. Its just a way of life for them to afford a better life, not depend on parents and also learn the value of money
There is a difference though.. place of living has a huge role to play when setting up with income limits.. 50k household income in a village in a family of 4 is middle class easily I believe.
We need to look at the income after expenses like rent etc. That should be treated as income, I think only then we can compare it with village or tier 2/3. If rent is sorted most expenses are similar nowadays.

I would like to add that type of city where you are living in also matters. if you have a kid or two studying in a school or college in metro like ggn, Mumbai, bangluru, delhi then may be bracket of middle class even fall at higher income range than you mentioned. Amit ji, I have had this concern for a long long time. Glad you are echoing my thoughts on this. Most people who consider themselves as middle class are either lower class or lower middle class. In the last 10 years the definition of middle class has changed drastically while salaries have more or less remained stagnant. Savings of a crore was considered retirement level savings just 10-15 years back. Now you can't even think of retiring with less than 4-5 crs. How times have changed.

I agree with this... I live in Bangalore, I am single, I made 30 Lakh in my job in salary and bonus. I dont own a house i live in rented place. (My parents have spent a lot of money on education of their 3 of children, my sister is married now). We are mostly a Middle class for last 10-15 years. My parents and brother live in my hometown, they own a house. My parents are mostly retired but they make 4-5 Lakh a year through their small business and rental income. My younger brother makes 2-3 lakhs. As a family last financial year we made 36 Lakh. My parent and brothers income is tax free though i paid taxes and in account as a family we got 30 Lakh. 7.5 Lakh per person. Other scenario. I know a 5 member family living in bangalore, they moved from Bihar one by one to find better opportunity. In Bihar they were laborer and their family income was 40-60K per month. which means they were considered as lower class, and no one has gone to college or convent school. In bangalore, Elder son rides a Ola in Airport route and makes 90K-100K average a month after expenses. Father drives a Cab for Hotel and makes 50K in salary and overtime and tips. Elder Son's wife works in hospitality and makes 30K a month Mother delivers Tiffin to PG and makes 20K a month. Younger son runs small Chinese food stall and makes 50k a month. They live in a rented house and pay similar amount on rent for what i pay for rent for myself. As a family they made similar to what we made and only elder son paid some tax. They do not spend much money on the things which we spend as a family on things like air travel, AC, spend on festival, food, clothes, functions, . They save more money than us. This is an example of how middle class stays in a similar position for a long time and how lower class income family are moving forward and merging with Middle class.
