Only the James Bond movies with Daniel Craig left. His James Bond movies are unique in the franchise, because we have a clear confirmation that they are a reboot for the character and that each of the 5 movies are a chapter of a arc story to Daniel Craig's James Bond.
@@e.d.2096 Eric, great to see your comment here, I missed you on Wayne's World 2. I really like the Austin Powers films too, and also the '60s Casino Royale.
There's an HBO documentary on the Bond franchise, and in it Brosnan is in tears talking about this movie. He can't stop laughing at how ridiculous it was.
The only thing I remember from that is him saying something along the lines of "what is it today? surfing while para-gliding? oookaaay." and then he burst out laughing 😂😂😂
As a lifelong Bond fan, I really appreciate that you took the time to watch the first 20 Bond films. Most RUclips reactors are starting with Casino Royale, but you’ll have so much more appreciation of what makes the Craig films so good and so special having seen all the pre-reboot ones.
Fun fact: When Fleming was searching for a name for the protagonist in his spy novels, he wanted an 'ordinary' unassuming name. When in Jamaica, he saw the name of the author to a book entitled 'A Field Guide to Birds'. His name was James Bond. The rest is history.
….And, just in case anyone missed it, that very “Field guide to Birds” book is the same one that Bond is shown holding (with his finger “randomly” covering the author’s name on the cover) in Havana while he’s under cover as an ornithologist.
While we're at it, Q's name is Boothroyd which is the name of an arms expert who wrote to Fleming suggesting that OO7 would be better off using a Walther instead of a Beretta. Fleming adapted it into Dr No and now I'm wondering if he really created these stories or just wrote down his dreams...
@@wolfiebassache4146 …and, just to get even deeper into the woods, in the Dr. No movie, we see a character identified as “Boothroyd” (played by some random actor) give Bond his Walther PPK, but then from Russia With Love on we have Desmond Llewelyn playing a Character identified only as “Q” giving Bond his gadgets. It’s not until The Spy Who Loved Me when Barbara Bach greets Q as “Major Boothroyd!” That we finally get onscreen confirmation that in the movie Bond Universe Q and Dr. No’s Boothroyd are indeed supposed to be the same person.
Miss Jen, what makes you so unique is your amazing ability to make everything fun. Your sunshine makes everything better and worth watching. There's no bad movie with the Bright Angel of Reaction videos. Your wit and ability to observe with an open mind is the highest form of intelligence. You make us all laugh and smile.
Toby Stephens, who plays Gustav Graves, later actually got to play James Bond in a series of BBC radio plays directly adapting the original novels.Well worth a listen.
This movie may have some flaws but it’s a fun one to watch, also the virtual simulation scene is the closest Jen will get to see James and Money Penny together lol
I say this a lot but I love how Jen embraces the tropes and the fun of whatever movie she's watching and this one had a lot of crazy stuff to get into. Space laser, invisible car, ice palace, C4, diamonds, Bollinger! And I laughed SO hard at Jen's suggestion to use flamethrowers during the fencing match. :D
If you wanna know a really fun fact, Toby Stephens, the actor who plays Graves, has actually played James Bond in multiple BBC audio adaptations of Bond novels.
10:16 When Ian Fleming was ready to write his first book about an MI6 secret agent, but he still needed a name. That book was on his coffee table. The author's name is scratched out in this shot, but it was written by fellow named James Bond. Ian liked the name and well as they say they rest is history.
In the DVD Special Features the Ice Palace is discussed. It was inspired by a ice hotel in Sweden that has to be rebuilt every year. The hotel is much smaller due to the need to maintain a constant temperature during its use. Set designer Peter Lamont stayed there and it gave him the model for the Ice Palace.
I'm so glad you took the time to watch all the movies leading up to this, and thereby recognized the callbacks to older movies in the franchise. I've seen a few RUclipsrs do reactions to the James Bond series and far too many of them can't be bothered to put the homework in so they'll only watch one or two movies from each Bond era or not even watch some of the older movies and it means that, when they get to this point in the series, easter eggs go over their heads. Keep up the good work, Jen.
The best thing about this reaction is easily your reaction to thinking Moneypenny was dead, the look of absolute shock and disbelief on your face, but your look of satisfaction when you thought Moneypenny and James were finally gonna get busy was priceless lol. You're the best Jenny Penny and I cannot wait for you to watch Daniel Craig. Keep up the Bond-Tastic reactions and we'll keep coming back for more. #TeamJen
The "Field Guide to Birds" was a series of books published by James Bond the author-ornithologist. He visited the exotic locales he wrote about. One can see how this gave Ian Fleming ideas for his book's chief spy.
The opening minutes had almost everything Jen needed - lots of C4, lots of big explosions, lots of diamonds...all that was missing was huge wads of cash and a countdown timer 😃
This movie pays homage to the old movies, as you noticed. At the Subway station you can spot several gadgets, including the AcroJet from Octopussy’s opening scene. The plot itself is inspired in the diamond’s laser weapon from Diamonds Are Forever. And the escape from the Super Cargo at the end came straight from The Living Daylights (only there using a car instead of a helicopter). It’s the end of the larger than life characters and fantasy toned plots. Now the franchise will be rooted on reality. Casino Royale is the best of the following entries. A boring Q and a charmless Moneypenny are included. And Mr. Brosnam never disguised his disapointment to be released out of the series, that was suposed to give him a last movie to do. Bárbara Broccolli, daughter of the legendary original 007 franchise producer Albert Broccoli, said goodbye to Pierce by the phone. As he said in one interview, he was “booted out” of the role. As I said before, he was the last of the classy Bonds.
I totally agree. The Daniel Craig James Bonds are like waching a Bourne Identity movie series and says he is James Bond instead. I own a bluray boxset of all of them. And even with Connery and Moore..I still always go back to the Pierce Brosnan James Bonds over and over.
@@robertsmith3883 While rebooting bond might not have been a bad idéa in principle. The original bond series, specially the first couple of movies is a bit messy, the way it was done with Craig wasn´t it. They pretend to make it smarter, while actually making it dumber.
I would like to have seen another Brosnan Bonld or two. He was the only person in history born to be Bond. Not sure that makes him best, but he is fun. The problems in this film had nothing to do with Brosnan. On the other hand, I do love the Daniel Craig films as a trilogy on their own. Good choice on Craig to wrap them up.
I felt this space laser was a combo of Diamonds Are Forever and The Man With The Golden Gun. Face-changing baddie might also have been a call-back to Blofeld's makeover in Diamonds and Bond's visit to the spa in Thunderball. And of course Jinx's laser scene was Goldfinger with a new skin
My second rewatch done for tonight, Jen, I enjoyed seeing your reaction to it yet again. This is actually my favourite of the Brosnan 'Bond' films, I know that many consider it the weakest, but not for me, Toby Stephens made a great band guy in it. Something which you might not know is that he's the son of the British actress Dame Maggie Smith who recently passed away.
BBC Radio did a series of James Bond book adaptations a few years back. Toby Stephens (Graves) played Bond, often regarded by some as the best Bond portrayal. In the adaptation of Goldfinger, Rosamund Pike (Miranda Frost here) played Pussy Galore.
Die Another Day! The fourth and last Brosnan Bond! An ice palace, an invisible car, a Korean officer who has plastic surgery to become a very English gentleman, a beautiful blond double, if not triple agent, and a James Bond looking like King Kong walking into a luxurious hotel being recognized as Bond by the manager, a revamp of Ursula Andress coming out of the sea in Dr. No but this time by Halle Berry as Jinx? These are the ingredients that make this Bond movie an exceptional one!. And for me, one of the best! A very good James Bond finale for Pierce Brosnan although many Bond fans don’t always agree! Oh, I almost forgot, a fantastic, out of context theme song, a far cry from the usual Bond themes, sung by Madonna, whom I still love and she even gives fencing lessons! There are, however, a few scenes that leave to be desired such as a very bad back projection of a tsunami while Bond, (Pierce Brosnan) is kite-surfing over invisible waves. OK! I think all that has to be broken down and commented in the nicest possible way because, contrary to the general opinion, this, for me, is the second best Brosnan Bond film after The World Is Not Enough! Although the movie opens up in North Korea, the opening scene was actually filmed in Cornwall South east England! Both Toby Stevens and Will Yun Lee are both great actors I don’t really see Lee changing into Stevens even after deep plastic surgery is really viable! They should have got an actor somewhere between them both! Bone structure can’t be changed as easily as flesh tissue! And I think we should have seen a bit more of Will Yun Lee, he doesn’t get enough screen time! That being said, his sidekick Zao played by Rick Yune is absolutely fantastic right till his demise at the end! An interesting fact about Pierce Brosnan and James Bond habits! He will be the first Bond to not smoke except for one time, when he meets Jinks he lights up a cigar! The same make that will appear years later in No Time To Die when Daniel Craig’s Bond, living in Jamaica, picks up a cigar butt as he returns home after fishing ! Michael Madsen, a great Quentin Tarantino star is absolutely fantastic as the CIA boss! It suits him right down to the ground! Moneypenny living a moment of romance with Bond through an Alternate Reality gear is quite fun! Rosamund Pyke is absolutely fabulous! This was about her sixth film I think and she was still very young in the business but she really comes through! We don’t really know which side she’s on until three quarter’s of the film and she matches up well to Halle Berry at the end! And she’s well named too, Miranda Frost! That name says it all! Mind you, Even Halle Berry as Jinx is quite a mystery too! I love Jinx’s back dive off the castle wall! Now the invisible car, An Aston Martin Vanquish V12, especially presented by John Cleese as R, I find ridiculous! Although it does come in handy on the ice car chase! Especially against Zao’s Jaguar XKR full of gadgets, rockets and things! In this shot, Bond and him are about equal. Still, the idea of the invisible car with reflecting mirrors and so fourth, is, for me, a bit too much out there! By the way, did anyone notice the air hostess when Bond is on the plane? She is Deborah Moore, Roger Moore’s daughter! When she was a little girl she had a small part in an episode of The Persuaders! Wed can also, once again see Michael J. Wilson in the role off General Chandler! The two sword fence fights are both excellent but out of the two, I prefer the one at the end in the plane between Jinks and Miranda! It ends well, too! When Zao interrogates Jinks saying “who sent you?” And she answers, “Your mama, she’s very disappointed in you”! I really love that reply! And it ends as it has to! Bond making love to the girl (Jinks of course) with diamonds! Let’s not forget the diamonds!
I love the fact that Jen can watch pretty much anything, take it for what it is and enjoy it. Which makes this channel so much more fun than most others who seem to feel they have to find something wrong with anything they watch. Go Jen! See ya on the next one!
Jennypenny, your reactions to these are SO much fun.At the time we were averaging a Bond movie every two years so the 20th Bond movie was also the 40th Anniversary, hence all the callbacks.
@10:16 When Ian Fleming was living in Jamaica and was about to write a novel about a British secret agent, he needed a name for him. On his shelf was, "A Field Guide to Birds: West Indies. It was written by a man named James Bond. Ian Fleming thought it sounded right for his spy and this moment in the film is a reference to those in the know. P.S. Years later, Ian Fleming met with James Bond who told him he was honored to share a name with the most famous spy in fiction.
Great stuff, when it comes to Die Another Day I feel a lot of Bonds fans come full circle. Love it as a kid, grow to resent it as 'cheesy cringe' when they get older and are trying to be oh so grown up and mature then in their later years just learn to embrace the goofiness. If I had to put my finger on the main issue I think people have with the film is the tonal whiplash. The opening of the film, with Bond getting tortured for 14-months and M throwing him to the dogs took James to a very dark place and for a moment you think this finial film of Brosnan will dive into a real character study, a real look at who Bond is and building on some of those darker moments we saw in the previous films but instead as you yourself recognised, he gets cleaned up and he's back to smoove Bond again as though none of the opening had even happened and you find yourself feeling you've been messed around with and let down. Going forward I highly approve of your list, when it comes to Austin Powers the first film be sure to watch the UK version of the film rather than the US one if you can as it had extra scenes including my fav Bond parody joke of the movie that I won't spoil here of course. ;) One last thing, AFTER you have finished all the Craig Bond movies I strongly recommend you check out the Johnny English spy parody films staring Rowan Atkinson. The first film in the trilogy is just 'okay' in my opinion but the second film in the series, Johnny English: Reborn, that came out in 2011, is very much a loving parody of the modern Craig Bond era and I think it's both funnier and has a genuine good and gripping story in it's own right than the Austin Powers films.
Hit the nail on the head. I feel robbed watching this movie because the first act is phenomenal. Then its just back to business as usual. Its like the writers wanted to subvert the Bond tropes while simultaneously being 100% guilty of them. I'd be happy to watch the first act as part of a different film, and the second and third act as part of a different film. But put them together and it's such a let down. I enjoy the movie now because I know what's coming, but the first time I was like. What? We're just dropping all this brilliant set up?
10:20 - GUIDE TO BIRDS - Ian Fleming took the name for his character from that of the American ornithologist James Bond, a Caribbean bird expert and author of the definitive field guide Birds of the West Indies. Pay close atttention to this outing, Agent Murray, there are many 'callbacks' to previous movies in the series.
The man who plays Gustav Graves, Toby Stephens, is phenomenal as Captain Flint in the massively underrated show Black Sails, a show about pirates and prequel to the book Treasure Island. If you're ever looking for a new series to watch I hope you'd consider it. It has plenty of the things you like, scheming, double crossing, stacks and stacks of cash, fighting, and a few explosions along the way too.
I really liked that one. It was funny that it had TWO English cars in it, the Jaguar and Aston Martin, the reason for this was that the fans at the time went crazy when Bond drove a German car in the previous movie (the BMW) as Bond has ALWAYS driven British cars. So they answered the fans with the double British car, car chase. 😀
Die Another Day(2002) is a guilty pleasure at its guiltiest. This was the first James Bond movie my nephew saw in a movie theater. He died in a fatal car accident in 2018. This was Pierce Brosnan's last 007 film. Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson hit the reset button with Casino Royale(2006).
After seeing Dalton's Bond ride a wheelie with a Semi-truck, I don't think any of the Bond movies could ever surprise me by being too over the top with stunts and gadgets.
the 2 truck stunts were real the 1 side up DUKES of HAZZARD style was performed once because of insurance reasons the wheelie truck they removed the frame center supports and they increased the truck's torque so it would lift up the behind the scenes are insane
Really strong opening (Although you can clearly tell North Korea is Cornwall and an outdoor activities centre) but it goes downhill pretty hard and right quick.
I just love how giddy you get watching these movies, Jen. You're the only reactor I've watched reacting to a movie I've never seen. I never saw this movie. The Craig movies are good, though. When you're done with Bond, you should watch Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, based on a childrens book by Ian Flemming, creator of James Bond. Then, watch Johnny English, for a different take on British spy movies, with Rowan Atkinson (picture Mr. Bean as James Bond).
There is a reference to every bond movie before this, the trick is to catch them all. When I first saw this in the theater, they had mentioned all the homages, so I think I spent most of the movie looking for them.
The first half of this movie is so good and promising. It doesn't go off the rails until the last third in Iceland. Some of Brosnan's best as Bond is in this movie.
Jen luv your spirit "Everything people hated about this movie I love" That's so you. I luv the homage to Honey Ryder, the first Bond Girl & that scene with Halle coming out of the water was worth the prize of admission. It's too bad the plan for Halle to continue the role of Jinx in her own movie never came to fruition.
An underrated movie worth checking out now that you've finished Pierce Brosnan's Bond run is "The Thomas Crown Affair," a very sexy heist movie where he's a wealthy playboy who conspires to steal an immensely valuable painting basically because he's bored; it's a remake with the original starring the legendary Steve McQueen whom you saw in "The Towering Inferno."
Go with the classic Steve McQueen version. The chemistry between him and Faye Dunaway is electric. It's also much edgier than the watered down Brosnan version. The OG "Boston Movie."
This movie is actually rather good for the first 2/3 but then gets really silly for the final third with Invisible cars, space lasers and Bond surfing a very badly done CGI sunami. The next film Casino Royal they get everything right with a very realistic story and action scenes. Once again love your channel and your reviews.
Watching along with these has really brought me back to my childhood, every winter watching the Bond Season on TV. Jen, you're awesome...you're reactions are always fun!
40th anniversary was the reason for the nods to previous movies. Loved the wtf reaction to the training scene when you thought Penny had been killed. You caught on by the kissing scene later on 😀 Not one of my favourites but it’s great you got a kick out of it. That’s what’s great about Bond. Something for everybody. On to DC now Jen. Time to get serious.🔫🍸
The club that the sword fight takes place in is called "Blades", which is a Gentleman's Club that Bond spends time in and M is a member of in the Bond novels. It also features heavily in the novel version of Moonraker which this movie draws some inspiration from.
22:19 There are hotels made entirely of ice. There's one in northern Japan and one in Sweden. Recently youtuber Safiya Nygaard stayed in the Swedish one. And RUclipsrs Rachel & Jun stayed in the Japan one.
I really felt they could have gotten a 5th movie out of Brosnan. This might be the only time that the pre-credit sequence, the credits & the main story are all linked.
Fun fact: This one was meant to be an adaptation of the Bond novel 'Colonel Sun', but after learning about the high royalty payments they'd have to make, the filmmakers had to change most of the script to only include references to it.
Yay Jennypenny! 😍 Bollinger can run about $6000 a bottle. With one exception, even low tier Bond movies have their fun. The highlights for me are Rosamund Pike and the car chase on the ice.
Fun review as always! DAD is very divisive among 007 fans, but it still stands as a fun popcorn movie in the end. Pierce is awesome and Halle is smart, sassy & sexy! Thank you for presenting the movie in its original Panavision aspect ratio. On to the Daniel Craig 007 movies!
Honestly, this one was always one of my favorite bond movies. It definitely uses more weapons and gadgets than any other bond movie which was probably too much for some people, but I always enjoyed uses of cool technology in movies. Brosnan is an amazing Bond as always and just like in "Tomorrow never dies" the bond girl is actually doing cool and relevant things instead of just looking nice and falling in love with Bond. I also like the title theme, but you are definitely right when you say that this feels less like a bond theme than any other before. This is not just a feeling, it's true, because there are a few elements in the melody of james bond themes that are used in all bond songs, except for this one. Even if the other bond songs can sound quite different, they all have this common main theme that this song hasn't. And finally, keep in mind that the bond movies with Daniel Craig are basically a restart of the entire bond story. This means, while Brosnan bond still has to deal with the death of his wife, Craig bond hasn't because the older bond movies are not part of his past.
Something to add, Pierce Brosnan has made some good films, if you'd like to see him in some others you can check out No Escape (he is almost like a James Bond character in this), The Thomas Crown Affair (which is a remake of the film of the same name with Steve McQueen), The Fourth Protocol, The November Man, After The Sunset and Nomads (Nomads is a strange film but interesting) People also like Dante's Peak, the film called I.T. and The Matador. I'm sure people would name other films of his too but I really like these ones, especially No Escape.
Your wrap ups are always so good. Perfect overview once again. I love that you’re making us wait for the Craig films… It will be a little agonizing… but all the more exciting when we finally get there. The first Casino is seriously bonkers… and the “Jimmy Bond” scenes are side splitting 😂😂😂 Much appreciation!!!
Fun Fact: Parts of Graves' Iceland lair...specifically the interior shots with the jungle, gantry, bamboo bridge and and interior/exterior hexagon panelled domes were actually filmed on location at the Eden Project here in Cornwall and parts of the lair set were constructed inside it's Tropical Biome
Your reaction to all these Bonds have dawned a new perspective on me. The entire Brosnan era is a parody, or to be more accurate, a commentary on all previous Bonds mixed in one. Lady M and Money Penny just being sick and tired of his "misogynistic ways" is that clear commentary. I probably wouldn't have noticed without you saying things like "this Bond has more quips than Moore." It really made me think about every aspect from the intro music to the dialogue. All the Brosnan films have this layer of cheese laced throughout that I couldn't quite put my finger on. Even the intro music is over the top. I think this Madonna song was the last contemporary song used since License to Kill. All Bond music is contemporary of it's time from Connery to Dalton until Golden Eye when it started to sound like "classic Bond" music from the Connery era. It's all been throwback music since Brosnan because they were kinda making fun of it. The Daniel Craig era leans hard into it being throwback music when it's not supposed to be. Can't wait for Casino Royale. It's the best in the Craig movies imo. Number one is still License to Kill but Casino Royale comes a split hair second.
Toby Stephens, who plays the main villain in this film, plays in a very good TV series about pirates as Captain James Flint. If you liked him, and you like pirates, you should check out Black Sails, it's a TV series that is really well done. You may not recognise him at first with his beard. As for this film, I agree with you that it's an enjoyable film to watch with some very good scenery, especially the ice palace. I loved Halle Berry in this film and hoped that they would make a spin off with her character Jinx. They were actually going to make it but unfortunately the deal fell through, it's a pity. Ian Fleming searched for a normal everyday name for his hero and picked up a book about birds which was written by James Bond, that's where he got the name from. It's supposed to be the book on birds that Bond picks up in the film. The Bond films started a 'spy' craze which other films and TV shows followed. The TV show The Man From Uncle was created following this craze. Ian Fleming wrote about a spy called 'Solo' and gave the name to the main character in The Man From Uncle. If you like spy films, you should check out the Harry Palmer series (three films) The Ipcress File (music also by John Barry) was the first, followed by Funeral In Berlin, then The Billion Dollar Brain. Harry Palmer is supposed to be a 'Cockney' spy, so not the same as James Bond. Some other spy films following the James Bond trend were The Quiller Memorandum (music also by John Barry) it's one of my favourite films, and the Bullfog Drummond series (two films) Deadlier Than The Male, followed by Some Girls Do. Then there was the film called Modesty Blaise (Modesty is a female Bond type heroine). Modesty is played by an Italian actress named Monica Vitti. This film is kind of tongue in cheek but it's definitely worth seeing, I personally love it and the theme song is very good. They did, years later, make another Modesty Blaise film, but it was completely different and with another actress and was not so good. James Coburn also did an American 'Bond' take off about a spy called Flint (two films, good music) Our Man Flint, followed by In Like Flint, they were fun but kind of spoofy, the same thing with Dean Martin's Matt Helm series (four films) the first, and in my opinion the best, was the film called The Silencers (good theme song). I hope you can find the time to see some of these, the first ones I mentioned were very good. Maybe you could rate them next to the James Bond series. I hope this interests you. Take care!
Fun fact, the Field Guide to Birds of the West Indies shown at 10:16 was written by James Bond and is where Ian Fleming got the "most boring name" for his spy/assassin.
Halle is stunningly gorgeous, but Ursula Andress in Dr No gets the slight nod over Ms Berry getting out of the ocean 🤷🏻♂️. However, Jinx probably deserved a spin off movie
i have SO been loving your bond reaction videos - the other poster was right about you looking for the positive in each movie, it's like a breath of fresh air! can't wait to see your reactions to the daniel craig movies!!
Actually one of my favorite Bond movies . Return to form with cool henchmen, action +gadgets + great score. Loved Pyke as an acting breakout (You should do Gone Girl!!)
Just love how enthusiastic you are when watching these films, it's very childlike and refreshing :) you don't take them too seriously, this was a fun film, looking forward to your Daniel Craig era next, my favourite bond and he's from Liverpool UK like myself, will be there for casino royale.
Hi Jen, glad you enjoyed the film. As well as being P. Brosnan`s last bond, it is also the last one for Samantha Bond as Moneypenny & John Cleese as Q.
The villain Gustav Graves was played by Toby Stephens, the son of Dame Maggie Smith, Professor Minerva McGonigle in Harry Potter, and the late Robert Stephens, a Shakespeare and film actor who played Sherlock Holmes. Toby has done a lot of great film and TV roles...'Black Sails' (series), 'Jane Eyre', 'Twelfth Night', and 'Mangal Pandey: The Rising' are all good Toby Stephens projects. Miranda Frost was played by Rosamund Pike, who got a lot of raves for her role in 'Gone Girl' with Ben Affleck. She was also wonderful in 'Pride and Prejudice' with Keira Knightley, playing the eldest Bennet sister. Currently, she is playing Moiraine Damodred and executive producing the Amazon Prime series 'The Wheel of Time' based on the Robert Jordan fantasy novels. She plays an Aes Sedai sorceress helping the young heroes prepare for a coming battle against darkness. Hands down...this has the worst Bond Theme song inside the official EON Productions films...although 'Quantum of Solace' is a very close second! On to one of the best Bond films ever...'Casino Royale'....and I love that you're gonna do 'Austin Powers'!!!
Yep, I’m gonna say it. Jen’s my favourite Bond girl. It seems so many film critics these days go in with intent to dislike the film, only taking note of the drawbacks and ignoring the merits. No wonder her infectious joy is so refreshing.
Fun fact: Michelle Yeoh's character from Tomorrow Never Dies was supposed to return in the Chinese hotel in the beginning, but they couldn't make it work. Plus: they tried to make a Jinx spin-off movie, but they opted for doing Casino Royale with Daniel Craig after finally getting the rights for the book.
Fun fact here Pierce Brosnan is the lightest bond to ever play 007 I believe 160lb in Goldeneye the heaviest blond to ever play 007 but she was over 200 lb in this movie
When you watch a couple of the Bond parodies like Austin Powers you should also check out "Johnny English" with Rowan Atkinson who is primarily known for being Mr Bean.
The shots near the Ice palace were shot near Jökulsárlón lake near Vatnajökull glacier and on the glacier itself. Even though its not one of the better ones its still fun. Since you like action and explosions so much I think you'd like The Expandables. Its a bunch of movies that Silvester Stallone directed in which he gathered in them all the action guys in one movie/s. Its all matcho old school pure action ask no questions. I just stumbled on an article that the 4th one is in the making so.
James Bond films are always a mixture of camp and action/adventure. And definitely for the 20th film in the franchise they threw in a lot of Easter Eggs that hint back at older films, like Jinx's bathing suit and the jetpack from Thunderball.
Looking forward to Casino Royal from 67, as well as Craig's Casino Royal. At this point in the Bond franchise, you will have a much better appreciation for the Austin Powers films!
A note to remember for the Craig era, is that they are essentially a reboot of the entire series, also they are connected as basically one long movie (not necessarily the right choice).
I kind of love that the bit of information that tipped the scale in order for MI6 to accept that it was in fact Bond and not some other guy the North Koreans had given up is that the doctor remarked that his liver was messed up from all the drinking he does. M was "Yeah, that's him."
It is so fun watching you react to Bond movies. So . . . I noticed how impressed you were by the cars in this movie. When this movie was still in the theaters, my son (also one of your subscribers) and I went to the L.A. Auto Show, where they had a special Cars of James Bond display. The DB5 from Goldfinger was there, as well as the white car with skis, AND both of the cars from this movie. We got to see them up close and personal. It was extremely cool!
That's it, I'm gonna make you some mini Jen-Batch C4 fridge magnets 😂😂😂 I'm glad you're adding some of those other flicks before getting to the Craig era, but I reeeally hope you add Man From UNCLE to that list, I know you'll love it so much.
So many references in this one: Bond was being recorded the same way as in From Russia..., the Jinx Bikini same as in Dr No, the Title of the book was the actual writer named James Bond, the gadgets were obvious references (the alligator from Octopussy, the shoe, etc), the parachute was the same as The spy..., the laser from goldfinger... and maybe there are a couple more I'm too lazy to recall... 😅 Maybe that was the best of this movie: the references and the nostalgia. Edit: ohhh yeah and the bad guy uses the sun just like in the man with the golden gun, and the henchmen were sucked out of the plane the same way Goldfinger was, Jinx and Bond final escape was very similar to the one on The livingDL...
Wow, you're doing Never Say Never Again? Hard core! I predict you will miss the Bond theme song, though (this one was made by a different studio). Still, looking forward to your reaction - always love your enthusiasm!
What's your fav Brosnan?

Only the James Bond movies with Daniel Craig left. His James Bond movies are unique in the franchise, because we have a clear confirmation that they are a reboot for the character and that each of the 5 movies are a chapter of a arc story to Daniel Craig's James Bond.
My Brosnan rankings go in order, so Goldeneye sits on top but only by a slight margin.
Golden Eye
@@e.d.2096 Eric, great to see your comment here, I missed you on Wayne's World 2.
I really like the Austin Powers films too, and also the '60s Casino Royale.
"No ladies for 14 months? That must've been the ACTUAL torture" :) Love it!!!
There's an HBO documentary on the Bond franchise, and in it Brosnan is in tears talking about this movie. He can't stop laughing at how ridiculous it was.
They're all pretty ridiculous.
What's the name of thst docu?
The only thing I remember from that is him saying something along the lines of "what is it today? surfing while para-gliding? oookaaay." and then he burst out laughing 😂😂😂
Almost all the dialog him with Halle Berry are so cringe and stupid it's absolute crazy 😅🤣 And many more stupid things too 😂😂😂😂
@@akyhne It's called Everything or Nothing. It's actually not HBO I was mistaken. Awesome documentary though.
As a lifelong Bond fan, I really appreciate that you took the time to watch the first 20 Bond films. Most RUclips reactors are starting with Casino Royale, but you’ll have so much more appreciation of what makes the Craig films so good and so special having seen all the pre-reboot ones.
🏆 👍👍
Jen does it RIGHT
I thought Craig was dreadful
Fun fact: When Fleming was searching for a name for the protagonist in his spy novels, he wanted an 'ordinary' unassuming name. When in Jamaica, he saw the name of the author to a book entitled 'A Field Guide to Birds'. His name was James Bond. The rest is history.
….And, just in case anyone missed it, that very “Field guide to Birds” book is the same one that Bond is shown holding (with his finger “randomly” covering the author’s name on the cover) in Havana while he’s under cover as an ornithologist.
Also the 007 number was taken from the number of the bus Fleming used to take to work
While we're at it, Q's name is Boothroyd which is the name of an arms expert who wrote to Fleming suggesting that OO7 would be better off using a Walther instead of a Beretta.
Yes it was Birds of the West Indies by James Bond

100% dylan turn your mind off and enjoy
I'm sure there's some fan fiction out there somewhere.

“Oooo bigger swords! Flamethrowers!” Lmao this woman is a national treasure and needs to be protected at all costs.
Sooo Jen.
If you wanna know a really fun fact, Toby Stephens, the actor who plays Graves, has actually played James Bond in multiple BBC audio adaptations of Bond novels.
Luv him in Black Sails & Vexed also.
10:16 When Ian Fleming was ready to write his first book about an MI6 secret agent, but he still needed a name. That book was on his coffee table. The author's name is scratched out in this shot, but it was written by fellow named James Bond. Ian liked the name and well as they say they rest is history.
Jen I LOVE how you always look for the positive in everything! I'm so glad you had fun! Your reaction was fantastic!!!
Thanks! ☺️👍🔥
@Jen Murray I agree with you not as bad as some say lots of reminders of 20 years, the next one is the best Bond ever. 😉
I thought the ice hotel was in Quebec that inspired the one in this movie?
Check the Special Features DVD
@@coastiecpo huh look at that there’s an Ice Hotel in Sweden also. I read that the Quebec one also was an inspiration.
In a future Bond movie they should use the actual ice hotel and also have the mines in northern Sweden as a set piece.
If they are not interested they would miss the details anyway.
Plus there are a million other movies to watch.
Exactly, that's so annoying.
@@EdwardGregoryNYC There are five Bond films with Daniel Craig, not three. "Trilogy" means three.😅.
The bird- watching book early in the movie is an inside joke-- Ian Fleming got the name "James Bond" from the author of a guide to British birds.
You are the absolute best movie reactor!!! You pick the best movies and make the funniest comments! I just love your channel!!❤
Thank you!! ☺️👍
32:54 "That car is good. I need a car like that ! ...ok... when I am a secret agent "
Going forward I highly approve of your list, when it comes to Austin Powers the first film be sure to watch the UK version of the film rather than the US one if you can as it had extra scenes including my fav Bond parody joke of the movie that I won't spoil here of course. ;)
One last thing, AFTER you have finished all the Craig Bond movies I strongly recommend you check out the Johnny English spy parody films staring Rowan Atkinson.
8:54 I met Rachel Grant and George Lazenby at a dinner party eleven years ago. Good conversationalists.
He's also played Bond in audio dramas.
He’s also quite good in the Netflix “Lost in Space” series. He’s ALSO the son of Maggie Smith, Professor McGonagall, herself.
This one is a guilty pleasure of mine.
After seeing Dalton's Bond ride a wheelie with a Semi-truck, I don't think any of the Bond movies could ever surprise me by being too over the top with stunts and gadgets.
the 2 truck stunts were real
the 1 side up
DUKES of HAZZARD style
was performed once
because of insurance reasons
the wheelie truck
they removed the
frame center supports
and
they increased the
truck's torque
so it would lift up
the behind the scenes
are insane
The invisible car gets built way before the truck does a wheelie
Bean as James Bond).

want to hear behind you
There is a reference to every bond movie before this, the trick is to catch them all.
My last Brosnan 'Bond' rewatch, on to the next now, Jen. Soon I will have done them all to help your channel. 🙂

I adore the Brosnan bond movies.

You do actually get hotels made from ice. The original Ice Hotel apparently started in Sweden in 1989. I do believe it is rebuilt every year.
The first Casino is seriously bonkers… and the “Jimmy Bond” scenes are side splitting 😂😂😂
Much appreciation!!!
So glad you watched all 20 movies so far, most reactors skip a lot of em.... I love all of them except the very last one.....
SO looking forward to 60's Casino Royale - a real favorite from childhood! Thank you Jen!!!
Absolutely. It's a real trip - in more ways than one! Great music, though.

Your excitement is contagious. Thank you.
Icarus reminded me a lot of the Goldeneye satellite
Love your energy as always Jen! Thanks.
“See you later, henchman”. Great one, Jen.
i love the name drop of the inspiration of the name James Bond by mentioning the Ornithologist of the same name
When you watch a couple of the Bond parodies like Austin Powers you should also check out "Johnny English" with Rowan Atkinson who is primarily known for being Mr Bean.
Oh, I would LOVE watching Jen react to Mr Bean!
I never saw it but seeing how much fun you have with the movie, makes me appreciate it more.
Rosamund Pike as Miranda Frost is definitely one of the best parts of this one 😏
1:21 When you find a woman who gets even more excited about C-4 than she does about diamonds, she's THE ONE.
😂😂
It is so fun watching you react to Bond movies. So . . . I noticed how impressed you were by the cars in this movie. When this movie was still in the theaters, my son (also one of your subscribers) and I went to the L.A. Auto Show, where they had a special Cars of James Bond display. The DB5 from Goldfinger was there, as well as the white car with skis, AND both of the cars from this movie. We got to see them up close and personal. It was extremely cool!
That's it, I'm gonna make you some mini Jen-Batch C4 fridge magnets 😂😂😂
I'm glad you're adding some of those other flicks before getting to the Craig era, but I reeeally hope you add Man From UNCLE to that list, I know you'll love it so much.
And the air hostess on Bond's flight into London is played by Deborah Moore, Roger Moore's daughter.
Wow, you're doing Never Say Never Again? Hard core! I predict you will miss the Bond theme song, though (this one was made by a different studio). Still, looking forward to your reaction - always love your enthusiasm!
