-Pirate VSTs you will never use
-Download 90s sample cds because every modern sample kit is for trap music
-Open Ableton
-Close Ableton before your computer becomes a furnace
-Go to sleep

It changes what grid you use. Basically, he's just saying to change up the rhythm a little.
Command/Ctrl + 1 makes the grid bigger
Command/Ctrl + 2 makes the grid smaller
Command/Ctrl + 3 toggles triplet
Command/Ctrl + 4 toggles fixed grid
These are all things you can change by right-clicking as well, they are just shortcuts

What are some must have plug-ins in your opinion? Or anything you would prioritize downloading besides the original Abelton functions and sounds?

for starting out the ableton stock plugins are amazing. when you're ready to expand omnisphere is a must for hip hop, and some more compression/mixing tools like izotope and waves plugins!

is there a reason why 808s and hats are midi but claps aren’t?

808s are melodic so it makes sense to do midi. Hats are also very rhythmic and pitch based so midi works easier than cutting up hundreds of the same sample. Claps and other percussion samples are for me easier to manage by just copy pasting to audio grid
