Yes, that's me on the violin. I don't know the name of the technique either, but I call it just being a newbie on it, and with my editing hat on -- choosing to keep the 'mistakes' in (both in general, and especially in the ending). Of course I could've rerecorded a bunch of times till I got perfect sustained notes, but I loved how it sounds hesitant. I'm surprised you didn't like the drums for this song. I thought they fit with being a little bit hesitant too, like the violin. I knew the key change that happens every 8 bars will eventually get you. :D I do arpeggiated 303s from time to time, I guess I just generally choose to highlight songs where I put more effort into the 303 programming / playing. Arpeggios are a bit of an "easy" mode for writing. :p Yeah, I'm growing a habit of sneaking in a flat 2 chord into my harmonic minor. I think it started in "The Chicken" a while ago. :) Yes, that slide at the end of the vocal phrase is the same kinda thing I did in The Way Was Me. :) Yes, those are cowbells, and indeed the 808 styled ones. :) Maybe I should have automated their level, since they're well mixed for the crescendo, but I can see what you mean that they dominate a bit too much in the earlier section where they're first featured. I think piercing highs are not exactly the same frequencies for all ears. I mean, I am mindful of them, but I'm not hearing them in my songs (and get rid of them when they appear), I think we're just sensitives to different bands of frequencies. What's going on with the piano is that it's loaded with reverb. :) And yeah, you were right on the mark for the synth pad, that's exactly what I did. Haha, I'm glad you liked the vocal processing. My mom on the other hand didn't like it and said it made me sound too masculine. :p Yes, that's the 909 hihat. :) Yep, swinging with my acoustic drums layer there. :) You're mostly right about the 303s, except I can only wish they let me write 8 bar patterns. The max is 4 bars. :) (and on most 303 clones the max is either 2 bars, or on the original 1, but there's pattern chaining). I generally have some motifs in mind when I choose the notes and such, but I mostly prefer to have more intricate and complex patterns than a single bar would let me, so inherently I have to sacrifice some of the motif strength for it. But for me those 2 or 4 bar long patterns strike a good balance between intricacy and repetition. :) Thanks as always. :) I'm a little tempted to send like one complete song and a bunch of the etudes that I haven't yet arranged to full songs for next month. :D
