Same. Since patch 1.5 I've actually been motivated to dabble in the game again. The performance improvements alone give me hope for the For Science update to be a fun patch.
You can make a stock falcon 9 by just ditching the lower stage right before your circularization burn, and then switching to the booster once the upper stage completes its circularization burn
Yep, I've done this before, but to have a proportionally-accurate Falcon 9 (i.e. the same scale as the rocket in this video) the first stage doesn't have enough ΔV for this. Perhaps I'll do a follow-up using the bigger grid fins
i hope ksp2 eventually gets good enough to have stable game play in the very near future i am glad you have been able to do ksp2 content so well even with the bugs and glitches keep the content up man love your videos :)
I feel like there is a division forming upon RUclips viewers, the ones who only watch very short videos, and the ones that watch hour long videos that are hardly edited. Those long ones can be very relaxing.
Had me laughing the whole time there wasn't something more exciting on screen. Nice one, Matt! Binging your old videos in a recent patch of insomnia, I realised I like the 10-minute-ish ones like this one just as much as the longer ones, but for different reasons. Also, you keep getting better at videos!
Finally! I have been waiting so long to see you make something from SpaceX in KSP2. Now that there are grid fins, you had no excuse! :) Can't wait for Starship next. Even though there are a billion versions out there, it's more fun when you do it.
2 things they need to fix for sure, the wobbly sausage/worm rockets, making them more rigid and quick load and quick save and switching to "integrity" cause it totally looks like the "data" that makes the rocket gets corrupted when saving/loading/switching!
I can’t wait till the game is properly fixed, I was so excited for it! Just as it’s looking like it’s getting there, your craft self destructs on loading…
These shorter videos are great keep it up! also nice to watch someone else struggle with KSP2 and a good reminder to wait to play until they fix these major issues with basic quick save/load XD
One time, I was attempting to recover a booster from orbit, but I chose a bad spot to re-enter Kerbin and splashed down into the ocean losing a few air brakes in the process. One of the air brakes sunk into the ocean a bit, and then started floating up and it sorta went into the air and started floating into space like nothing happened. I thought that was just ksp graphics being weird. Anyway, a few minutes later, I look at my tracking station and find this air brake with escape velocity out of the solar system, at a few million m/s velocity. That became my first exo-planet mission, and lonely air brake without power or guidance on its way to wipe out dinosaurs on another planet.
I ocasionally try to make an ssto falcon so that you can actually do your mission and get the whole payload back. That way if you are playing in career mode or whatever the ksp 2 equiveilent will look like you can actually get your resources back. Of course that particular sort of mission is really hard to make work.
this game is evoking the scene from the Kingdome Come when Henrys mother goes "In fine state you are this morning..." thats what i think of every time i see KSP2
Re: Short form, I haven't been served one of your videos in a while until this one, and I was for a long time an avid watcher. Not sure what happened to my algo but here we are.
I really enjoyed this video. However I do prefer the longer missions. I'm excited that ksp2 is getting slightly more stable. Keep up your amazing work. Well done.
Matt can i have a question for you?? How can i get like robotic arms and spining things in KSP1 in building menu?? You have it under the structural parts.
I did the same thing, and those landing legs are sketchy. We almost need another type of landing legs for boosters. I used those legs and one ejected in flight lol
unfortunately launching crew dragon to the moon would require new navigation, avionics, etc to make it work. i doubt they would do those changes for a one off dearmoon flight.
how I do falcon 9 style rockets, is that i use 3.75m parts (not exactly realistic, as ksp is a smaller scale than irl, and real life falcon 9 is 3.7 meters in diameter. So, i do a real life sized falcon 9, in scale though it would be bigger than a falcon 9. this way, 9 vector engines just barely fit under the bottom. Also, its totally possible to recover the booster and use the second stage, in order to do this, the booster stage will need around 1700-2000 m/s, and second stage needs around 2100 m/s. its less efficient this way, but if you make second stage fully reusable, for example for career mode, it would be really useful and save funds. the flight profile for this style of rocket is that at first you need to take a steeper ascent profile, and when apoapsis gets around 70-75 km (needs to be above atmosphere though) you then separate, fire second stage and get to orbit, dont warp to apoapsis, and burn engines to orbit while ascending, this means you will need to pitch below the horizon a bit to counteract the fact you are already going up. when you get to orbit, quickly switch to first stage, and deploy airbrakes (or in this case grid fins) and then control it on the way down and then land it. Then, you can switch to second stage again to do mission. If you are sending first stage back to the launchpad, then you will need to do boostback burn before second stage iginition, but after stage separation. This method is less efficient than doing it normally, but it enables you to recover first stage, which for ksp1 career mode ends up saving tons of funds.
Does KSP2 have the programmable block? You might be able to program the stage 2+3 so that it acquires orbit while you focus on landing stage 1, then switch over to the crew capsule and continue mission. Takes a bit of trial and error, but I managed this on KSP1
hey sorry that google makes you jump through hoops to make any sort of progress for your channel, i love all your content and especially the long form stuff. keep killing space frogs and ill keep showing up! i use you as my primary source of KSP2 news and cant wait to see where this game and this channel go!
Matt, how do you get the VAB building view to not slew to the root part like 0:14-0:18. It's infuriating trying to put stuff on the bottom of the rocket and not being able to see it.
So excited for what KSP2 has in store. Can't wait for this game to keep improving
Same. Since patch 1.5 I've actually been motivated to dabble in the game again. The performance improvements alone give me hope for the For Science update to be a fun patch.
If it just manages to be a bit better than ksp1, it would be pretty amazing
yeah it seems like the rate of improvement is getting faster
@@Hectorlph Building Planes and flying them feels so good in ksp2
Same. I support our devs and know they are working hard to get us the game we want.

Honestly, what I do in game is just make core stages that can reach orbit and then land those back at the KSC after one orbit

Yeah, but I’m not going to spend 40 dollars on a game that should have been polished at launch when I can (and did) turn KSP 1 into KSP 2
I feel like there is a division forming upon RUclips viewers, the ones who only watch very short videos, and the ones that watch hour long videos that are hardly edited. Those long ones can be very relaxing.
i hate shorts but i cant stand hour long videos. I like Videos just like this length 10-20 minutes, dont care if its edited or not
I have a tendency to make hour-long unedited videos, so I am glad that you think I may have an audience.

I'm glad grid fins are stock now and I'm excited for the update next month. Great vid as always Matt!
Remaking the game and going the extra mile to recreate even MORE of the mods for ksp 1 in to base content 😂
1:02 Matt: "I've added 6 Griffins".
Wait, what are Peter, Lois, Chris, Meg, Stewie and Brian doing on a rocket?

Will it be fixed? You would think a year would be enough to fix the major issues.
The open ttd music in the beginning tho… good old times
Always enjoyed you content Matt and loking foward for when KSP2 is fully operational.

5:59 this is the real reason SpaceX has opted to catch Super-heavy - landing legs don’t work 😢
GTA6 got anounced AND spacex put out a video titled “ready for 2nd flight test”?! GREAT WEEK!
That truly was a rapid unplanned disassembly.
I LOVE THIS CHANNEL ITS AMAZING BECAUSE OF KERBAL SPACE PROGRAM
Gonna be a lot of fun when multiplayer arrives and we don't need quick saves to do this!
Your self roast around 7min in was absolute gold! So funny and honest! ❤
I like how KSP2 included the details of the landing pads.
and yet they didnt include game mechanics for booster recovery. It's kinda unbelievable how unstable the game is still after like a year.
Omg, that OpenTTD music! Man, you know how to aim straight for the heartstrings.
LZ4 is also the same pad the falcon 9 launched today landed on an Vandenberg
Love the openttd music in the background 😄

having multiplayer in ksp would be so cool. Imagine 1 person piloting a crew dragon while another person lands a falcon 9
Really hope they do something so that we can actually have reusable rockets and 1st stage recovery.
Looking forward to a career mode for Ksp2
Its always a good afternoon when Matt Lowne uploads

Ngl the landing pads in ksp2 are a sick aesthetic addition to recovering boosters

Looked like the algorithm likes this one, it added it to my feed randomly.
Matt using OpenTTD music gave me extreme whiplash trying to remember where I had heard it before
You could make the booster lift you up to orbit destack and then recover it.
interestingly enough while this video was extremely scuffed, only half of it was due to KSP 2 bugs. Great job yet again Matt
Transport tycoon music :D
So happy the game is getting better
I did not expect the openttd music in the beginning
