Well done. Far and away the best Advent Calendar I've seen anywhere, with such a fitting conclusion, as others are noting. I do hope we see more of you online in the coming year.

Excellent series, gents. Many thanks to you both and to all those who kindly donated samples.
Re. the clues: perhaps have slightly fewer clues than this year, where there were only two complete mysteries? Maybe something like 15-18 clues for the 25/6 drams?

I won't be able to make it to the premier, but I'll give one hint: We were not disappointed.

A well deserved X-mas dram! I've been following your reviews for the past 4 years and, frankly, I think you both have done quite will on the advent calendar guesses, not always in the final answers but in the process of eliminating some of the options. Well done this year -- thanks for the entertainment and for reviewing some very good whiskies that I would not have discovered otherwise.

Merry Christmas to you both, I’ll be having a Glendronach 18 later, sadly it’s a new bottling (still a lovely whisky) but not as mighty as older bottles.

    Merry Christmas.
Marvellous work on that pick - given what is actually in that bottle your actual guess is closer to what you picked than what you didn't if you bought it off a shelf today if that makes sense. So I'd give full marks ;-)
The look of joy on Dave's face as he contemplated the finish on that was lovely :-)

This stuff is going to go down as one of those legendary bottles. I wish I'd had the cash to buy a case of the stuff back in '19 when it was a) 24YO and b) half the current retail price
    Thanks for the calendar guys

Absolutely this. There are a few bottles I wish I'd had the money and foresight to stash from back in the day....this is definitely one.

I always wonder what the accountants at glendronach thought after they decided to pour all their old stock in to bottles and then saw the prices old whisky started going for, and the huge stock holes they'd left themselves.
And there is something kind of magic about those old ones - not sure if it was the casks themselves, the direct firing or some super old stuff going in but the rancio etc is amazing and I've not tasted it in the new stuff (though I seldom get to try it given the new price structure)

@@ixirsorigamivideos4365 Billy Walker's accountant probably thought it was great, he made out like a bandit. He bought Glendronach in 2008, catapulted the Glendronach name to stardom by devouring the backstock, then sold the company (Benriach, Glenglassaugh, Glendronach) in 2016 for £300m.
The new master blender Rachel Barrie has a rough job imo, everyone hails Billy Walker as a god while he got to pick the best casks from a massive, overaged supply (that was distilled and casked long before he was involved). It was impossible for the quality to remain at the same level forever, given the unique circumstances, but Barrie's output gets judged against Walker's despite playing with a far inferior hand.

I got my friend one of these the year he turned 30, as he had it at a tasting and called it the best whisky he ever had.
Unfortunately, they also told him to stash it, so 4 years later he still hasn't opened it. The b*stard
