  • Adelphi have broken almost every convention for a blend here, and in doing so they just might have have stumbled on a remarkably sustainable style of Scotch.

    Something I didn't quite manage to articulate as well in the video: What makes this release so important is that it represents a company producing a whisky that's made to be good rather than fashionable. By adding a small amount of grain and a similarly small portion of secondary malt, they've assembled a whisky that drinks as well as any other single malt, but bares none of the symbols that would otherwise drive up the price (single malt, age statement, fashionable distillery name). As whisky prices continue to spiral out of control, I think this kind of malt forward blend will be vital to people like ourselves who have a taste for craft whisky, but not the increasingly unattainable wealth required to drink age stated single malt.

      Yes, very well said. Could it be that this and the Thompson Bros blend releases are the start of a boom in higher quality, affordable blended Scotch?

      Adelphi know the market that they want to sell to and not just the marketing games that the hollow vessel brands like Johnnie Walker have to play to catch the superficial and shallow consumers. Would they able to do this if they didn't own Ardnamurchen and ended up chasing casks and associated inflated prices like Compass Box - probably not. Hopefully they can maintain price and quality going forwards since it should be the go-to for any price conscious and serious malt head.

    This was Ralfy's whisky of the year. It'll be over a year before I even come close to seeing a bottle of this in Canada. Even if our dumb governments had the foresight to get some, it'd be sold out in hours.

    Hi Chaps, as you say this is a great dram, I am glad it has made it down to your part of the world. Its £30 in the UK and its accepted that the Campbeltown element is Glen Scotia. I really enjoy your work.

    A lovely blend, but I'm posting now as a warning & advice for others who also enjoy this drop...... Drink it !! It doesn't not last well. I've been slowly sipping on & off over 6 months. About half a bottle gone. 6 months on & its flat. It's lost its spring in its step. For now its like a blend between Caol Ila & Chivas 18 ( blend I do from time to time). Its not bad, but its not the same as the bottle the bottle I opened.

    Nice review, thanks.
    Unfortunately I think the sound here is once again very poor. The problem isn't technical. I could hear Dave fine--unlike some earlier occasions--and also Tim when he uses a normal speaking voice that projects to the mic. The problem is that for >80% of this vid. Tim is speaking in a "hushed" tone and it just doesn't work. As noted previously, I have the output volume at near-100% on my laptop, and the volume control on the vid player in the webpage above on 100%.
    If you must use that tone when speaking to the mic. then you'll need to change the mic's position or something to pick your voice up. Otherwise, just use a normal audible speaking voice, please, because then the mic & sound works fine. Thanks.
    Oh, and for clarity: accent is not a factor here. I live in the exact same city that you do.

      @VazzVegas 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@hicksy771 i also hear them just fine for the type of mic they are using. Try plugging in a set of earbuds if your listening on a laptop. Laptop speakers arent known to be the best.

    • @jbar6284
      @jbar6284 6 месяцев назад

      I agree laptop speakers aren't the best. The thing is, when Tim speaks "normally" I can hear him fine. Indeed, I then usually need to turn the volume down somewhat. So if the issue were something technical at my end then that's unlikely to be my experience. Instead I would expect to experience a consistent pattern. but the only one I can find in the above video is when Tim is speaking in a "hushed" manner. It is only then that I find his words indistinct and difficult to follow.
