I strongly dislike functioning labels but if I had to I’d probably say that I’m moderate, and I’m 17 and still break away from my parents while shopping to look at the toys! I love plushies (esp. jellycat and gund brand ones because they’re so soft) and I’m always looking for sensory stuff!!!
I dont like functioning labels, but if i were to use them id be very high functioning. But i still love all the baby sensory toys my cousin has and think theyre so stimulating and fun!

Have you ever thought about getting Abbie into art? Sure there’s drawing but you have sculpting, finger painting, putting things together, etc. I feel like art is a very positive way of spending your energy and expressing yourself.

You are a phenomenon father! My toddler has mid functioning autism. You hit it right on the head when you said autistic kids like toys are doesn’t go with their age. They mostly enjoy baby/infant toys. That’s definitely my son. Lol

Like you, I always find myself in the baby isle looking for toys for him and sometime I just really want something better. I highly recommend the Talking Tom and friends talk back toys ( Tom, Angela, Ginger and Ben) for your daughter. My son LOVES THEM!!! We have been through at least 2 of each over the last 5 years or so. They are about $30.00 and you push the little button in their hand and they record whatever you say and they repeat it in a high pitched voice (or in the case of talking Ben, a low voice) that my son loves. By far his absolute favorite toy that he has never tired of... Ever! Which I'm sure you know is nothing short of a miricle. The only other thing we have ever found that he plays with every single day is his yahama keyboard 🎹. He switches the sounds and songs... He loves it and taught himself how to use it. A piece of advice it to pick a volume that your happy with and then either tape over the volume or remove the volume knob all together. You will thank me later for that little piece of advice. Lol. Merry Christmas!
oil timers, magnetic putty, infinity cube, magnetic titles, these weird soft brick things, baby sensory texture balls, chew tubes, weighted items, soft toys of your favourite movies, music, headphones, soft blankets, bobble heads, shower crayons, water paints, coloured rice, bubble machines, magnetic cube, massage things etc there's so many little things that could be great ideas for some, not so great for others. I'm autistic and these are the kinds of things I love. I have this twiddler that I carry around, or this ball thing i can rub, tangles, this textured caterpillar, weighted door stop thats like a knot etc. Sometimes getting creative can go a long way. Alllll the fidgets but it can also be fun just to get them things based on their interests like if they love snoopy, snoopy blankets, movies, books etc as well. The balance you guys got was nice for Abby and you guys are really good with her. I love the container for the kinetic sand. Also it's super easy for those who maybe can't afford to get lots of playdoh or it goes bad. The homemade ones certain ones are edible, so if they sneak some in their mouth, it won't hurt them since I know some people will eat things they shouldn't, especially younger kids on the more severe end, but also my level 2 niece. She enjoys helping make it. OH, also cloud doh is another fun one to make. Good luck, peoples
i'm not on the autism spectrum myself, but i do have ADD which does make focusing extremely hard for me. but i love sensory toys like this, i really like the play foam and diy slime which is fun to make. i actually don't own one but the fidget cube is also very helpful during class especially. i have a brother with autism as well and he is very close in age with Abbie! love your videos, i wish the best for you and your family 💙
I’m high functioning but I still love all of these! My favorite that isn’t shown here are tangle fidgets.I grew up with Melissa and Doug and as an autistic adult I will still spend all day with simple things such as woodblocks and sorting things. Probably why I’m going into training to become a brick mason

Play doh is so fun to play with and I love the smell of it 🙂. Water beads are a favorite of mine. The play foam is too sticky for me, but great gift ideas, Asa.
There is a book called Butterfly in the Water that you might like to read. It is about five people with autism lost in the wilderness after a plane crash. They are with this weird pilot and two teachers. They have to try and rescue themselves. It is an action adventure story with fate, destiny, humour, romance and tragedy. They become heroes in a way and I liked that.
Abbie may like "Little Cosmetics Pretend Makeup Signature set," because it contains a compact, eyeshadow, lip gloss and glitter but they do not make a mess

My ot therapist never said to let him play with this stuff outside of therapy I find that very odd but this is so awesome because I'm going to utilize all this for Christmas because I'm thinking I don't know what to get him but now I do!!!!!
Here's another idea of a fun sensory activity that is easy, clean, and cheap! Dishsoap bubbles! Seriously. Fill your kitchen sink with warm water and LOTS of dish soap. The bubbles are really fun to play with. I used to grab them and clap my hands, sending bubbles flying everywhere. I also will hold some bubbles and blow on them quickly, scattering bubbles all over. Then they pop, and you're done!
My son is kind of just obsessed with jumping and climbing on things. He doesn't really engage in things like kinetic sand and orbeez and other sensory stuff. He stims primarily by hitting his mouth on bunched up blankets. I am still really trying to find things that appeal to him. I took him to the park the other day and he flapped and made excited noises but wouldn't really play with anything or engage. I put him in the swing and he was indifferent, completely reactionless, actually. I guess I'm just typing this out here right now because I feel emotional. He's on a year long waiting list for an official diagnosis even, He used to talk, when he was a year old he'd say mommy and daddy and "uh oh, it's empty!" when referring to his cup. I have video of him shortly before regression where he was following instruction, playing games, interacting and laughing. I don't understand what happened. I feel grief like I lost my child. I don't know if he will ever talk again, I wish I could have heard him say he loves me. Sorry to be a downer, my heart is just hurting tonight.

Fathering autism I have Aspergers and some lights hurt my eyes if they are bright I'm especially bothered by sunlight. Those kind of lights you mentioned we can hear them it's the noise.

For those with enough fine motor skills to hold and use a pen, there's a whole bunch of 3D pens where it uses a liquid plastic that cures with a special light rather than melting plastic with a hot thing. I got a 2 pen pack for like AU$15 for my friends who are 24 and 30. I've nearly burnt myself several times on my heat plastic pen, and would try a no-heat one if I didn't have all this plastic filament and expensive pen to use up.
I have a medium functioning autistic kid in Sunday school he loves playdough we can't have it every week but he loves it it seems like it calms him. I can't do any kinds of beads with them they are all kindergarten and under they will just put them in their mouths my five year old niece wouldn't but the rest of those kids I can't trust them with beads yet. They would probably like that foam stuff I haven't tried it.

+Kate Mackenzie Check out water beads. Abbie played with hers tonight. They are wet and can be messy but much easier to control the mess. Also, consider a cascading fountain outside. It would have the same affect as the overflowing sink without the mess.
I love yall lol. I have an almost 6 year old girl with asbergers. I'm wondering, does your child fixate on characters? Ours is obsessed with opening hatchimal small eggs and then does nothing with the inside stuff. She just likes opening them. Some of the insides of them are being discontinued and replaced with other things. Fairies for instance instead of unicorns etc.. so their becoming bigger and plastic not the kind u can open. What do u do when this happens and they no longer sell what your child asks for constantly? We spend 10 dollars a week every week on them. But I'm worried about the day that they aren't available or the price goes up bc they're so hard to obtain. Any suggestions for a replacement? I dont mean Easter eggs. These are the small realistic eggs that u have to break and a tiny "colleggtible" creature made of plastic is inside.
..... But shaving cream isn't so messy? Lol I'd choose the playdough over shaving cream lol my daughter would just end up with it in her mouth, nose, eye, hair, etc. You me a me laugh a few times throughout so you get a thumbs up from me ! Lol thank you guys.

My son is kind of just obsessed with jumping and climbing on things. He doesn't really engage in things like kinetic sand and orbeez and other sensory stuff. He stims primarily by hitting his mouth on bunched up blankets. I am still really trying to find things that appeal to him. I took him to the park the other day and he flapped and made excited noises but wouldn't really play with anything or engage. I put him in the swing and he was indifferent, completely reactionless, actually. I guess I'm just typing this out here right now because I feel emotional. He's on a year long waiting list for an official diagnosis even, He used to talk, when he was a year old he'd say mommy and daddy and "uh oh, it's empty!" when referring to his cup. I have video of him shortly before regression where he was following instruction, playing games, interacting and laughing. I don't understand what happened. I feel grief like I lost my child. I don't know if he will ever talk again, I wish I could have heard him say he loves me. Sorry to be a downer, my heart is just hurting tonight.

Adin's Music The only thing she does with lights is turn off the big fluorescent light in the kitchen. I think it is just too intense for her. Otherwise she doesn't seem to be bothered by lighting.

Fathering autism I have Aspergers and some lights hurt my eyes if they are bright I'm especially bothered by sunlight. Those kind of lights you mentioned we can hear them it's the noise.

My teacher used to give us all shaving cream on our desk and put a few drops of different finger paints in it.

For those with enough fine motor skills to hold and use a pen, there's a whole bunch of 3D pens where it uses a liquid plastic that cures with a special light rather than melting plastic with a hot thing. I got a 2 pen pack for like AU$15 for my friends who are 24 and 30. I've nearly burnt myself several times on my heat plastic pen, and would try a no-heat one if I didn't have all this plastic filament and expensive pen to use up.
I have a medium functioning autistic kid in Sunday school he loves playdough we can't have it every week but he loves it it seems like it calms him. I can't do any kinds of beads with them they are all kindergarten and under they will just put them in their mouths my five year old niece wouldn't but the rest of those kids I can't trust them with beads yet. They would probably like that foam stuff I haven't tried it.

+Kate Mackenzie Check out water beads. Abbie played with hers tonight. They are wet and can be messy but much easier to control the mess. Also, consider a cascading fountain outside. It would have the same affect as the overflowing sink without the mess.
I love yall lol. I have an almost 6 year old girl with asbergers. I'm wondering, does your child fixate on characters? Ours is obsessed with opening hatchimal small eggs and then does nothing with the inside stuff. She just likes opening them. Some of the insides of them are being discontinued and replaced with other things. Fairies for instance instead of unicorns etc.. so their becoming bigger and plastic not the kind u can open. What do u do when this happens and they no longer sell what your child asks for constantly? We spend 10 dollars a week every week on them. But I'm worried about the day that they aren't available or the price goes up bc they're so hard to obtain. Any suggestions for a replacement? I dont mean Easter eggs. These are the small realistic eggs that u have to break and a tiny "colleggtible" creature made of plastic is inside.
