    I've had a good listen to as many demos as I can find and this library does sound extremely promising. My current go to piano is NI Noire which I find very versatile. I use it for pretty much everything from classical to pop, jazz, rock and cinematic music. However I do miss having Una Corda for some of the classical work. Noire is also sampled in quite a dry room and whilst a good reverb can add a lot of depth and life I still feel something is missing from having multiple mic perspectives sampled in a great sounding hall. As a result, I've been considering the Garritan CFX though I've not been totally persuaded by the fact that there is always quite a bit of the room in the sound. From listening to the various demos of 300 Grand it would appear you can get a much dryer/direct sound than with the Garritan CFX when desired. Also, it has una corda and multiple mic perspectives that Noire doesn't along with more velocity layers.
    From my initial impressions the 300 Grand addresses the various things I don't like about Noire and the Garritan CFX and I'm very tempted to buy this.

    • @PraiseTracks
      @PraiseTracks  2 года назад

      Richard, lots of very thoughtful feedback here. One thing that came to mind was that both NOIRE and Garritan CFX were recorded in a "STUDIO" environment, whereas the 300 Grand was captured in a "PERFORMANCE HALL". When I thought about that aspect it placed 300 Grand in a different light.
      I am definitely going to ponder more of what you mention in the comments to help me understand how all of these stack up.
      Thanks so much for the kind support as always. Joyfully! 🎹

    I am very tempted to pick up 300 Grand as I really like how it sounds in your demonstration. I've heard that the tails of the pianissimo samples are a little noisy and the top half of notes is a little quieter than the lower section which Jason has said he will address in an update?
    I'm torn between 300 Grand and the VSL CFX. I think the VSL possibly has the edge in terms of sound but it is significantly more expensive. 300 Grand is definitely better value for money and I would consider upgrading to the Pro version (24bit, 48k) vs the 16bit 44.1k samples at a later date when it is released.
    Did you find any noise issues with the tail end of pianissimo chords?

    • @PraiseTracks
      @PraiseTracks  Год назад

      I need to see if ai can get in touch with Jason and see what the update situation looks like. Talking with him during the interview ai got the impression that one of the objectives was to have the noise floor at a minimum and that was one of the attributes of the hall the piano was recorded in. I have seen comments about the upper range balance issues.
      I will keep you posted on any news I can find. Thanks so much for watching and the feedback. Joyfully!

    What would you choose if you could only own Ivory American D or 300 grand?

    • @PraiseTracks
      @PraiseTracks  Год назад +2

      I would have to say 300 Grand. Ivory American D is a nice virtual piano but does not have the flexibility that 300 Grand offers you. You have so many different mic perspectives along with the Ambisonics mixing possibilities that allow you to get so many different perspectives from it.
      Also, the American D being a Steinway is going to have a different overall tone than the CFX, along with the recording locations (studio vs performance stage). I think for what you are getting the 300 Grand provides a lot of value.
      I did another video on 300 Grand that features more playing as well as interviewing Jason, who goes into some detail and behind the scenes of putting 300 Grand together.
      I also did a video on the American D as well that you might check out for a comparison.
      Thanks so much for watching, and please let me know if you have any additional questions. Joyfully! 🎹

      @@PraiseTracks Thank you so much for your thorough reply. I really like the sound of 300 grand and also the openness. My biggest concern is if it can sound as intimate as Keyscape and Ravenscroft 275 etc. Because if I can not get that close feeling I will never be fully satisfied. American D has that full bodied mid register, but overall I think 300 grand is a better overall choice. What is your opinion about the intimate sound of the 300 grand?
      Kind regards from Denmark.

  • @ivo4357

    Hey Simeon, how does this compare to Hammers and Waves? My first impression says Hammers and Waves is more convenient, as there are so many presets you can choose from without having to tweak everything to get the sound you need. This 300 Grand is maybe more geared toward professionals, having to go deep into the settings to achieve the sound you want.

    • @PraiseTracks
      @PraiseTracks  2 года назад

      Hammers and Waves covers quite a few instruments and does provide a user friendly way to navigate presets and effects.
      What I can say about 300 Grand is that even at first glance seems a little overwhelming, it is less intimidating once you get past the initial workflow curve you discover that things will become more intuitive.
      What makes this piano special is the concert hall setting and all of the care that went into selecting the mic positions as well as the attention to detail with the overall feel of the piano.
      Hammers and Waves is a great collection for sure. I love them all 🤓😂😂😂

      Jason messaged me and tried to explain a little further, explaining that even though they are downsampled, you can still export to 24 bit and Kontakt does it’s magic getting the highest quality in its process. I am hoping to have Jason on the channel live soon to play more as well as get an inside take on the process that went into this instrument.

      @@PraiseTracks thank you for looking into that. So if I'm understanding, it lets 24/96 files sit on our hard drive, but uses 16/44.1 while we perform/record into our DAW? (Apologies, Simeon, I could really be asking them directly, but this might be helpful to others :-) So then, once exporting (or 'bouncing' from Logic) if we choose 24/96 it will export directly from the actual 24/96 and DAW will not upconvert from the 16/44.1 ?

    The "Inside" mics sound is my favourite - sounds kinda similar to the fantastic sound they got in the "Yamaha Sessions" demo of the CFX - e.g ruclips.net/video/VHn56w1Nwow/видео.html
    (but I still prefer their sound, possibly because it's in a room, rather than a hall?)

    Hi Simeon - just wondering how 300 Grand continues to stack up with you ...as a main main piano. As piano-y as someone who will never have access to a CFX (or anything of it's caliber) in real life?
    Does the recent Chroma Grand push it aside from your perspective (understanding that Chroma offers additional synthesis...so it's sorta not the same thing). But from a purely piano view ...and wanting great piano expressivity (which you wonderfully show) ...to the greatest extent that a midi controller (RD-2000 is what I have) and a sampled or modelled plug in can give... (for something mere mortals can afford)
    Is 300 Grand it??
    Thank you so much for your inspiring videos.

    • @PraiseTracks
      @PraiseTracks  Год назад

      You have quite a bit more control over the actual piano sound in 300 Grand. The amount of options for the mic positions, including impulse responses for each of them is surprisingly very useful.
      Chroma is definitely a fantastic achievement but the 300 Grand would be my first choice for a main piano between the two of them. Chroma would definitely serve very complimentary to allow you to go into those more specialized cinematic areas. Also, Chroma is based on a Yamaha C3 which is a much smaller piano but Sonuscore did an amazing job in capturing it in such a way that is has a much larger presence.
      Thanks so much for watching and kind support. Joyfully!🎹

      Thank you for the feedback, Victor. Yes, sometimes pianos especially can start to run together and not all of them will work for everyone. You might want to check out my follow-up video on the 300 Grand as it also features some time talking with Jason the developer of Production Voices. He helps to give us a look behind the scenes at what it takes to put a virtual piano of this size together.
      Each one will have its standout features and sound signature and my desire is to put as many of them out there for you to experience so that you can find the ones that speak to you.

      @@PraiseTracks Thanks for your response. My main concern is always to find the best pianos that can pass as real acoustics for the very experts musicians. I am a classical pianist and is not enough for me to find a “good” vst but a great one that, managed by a pro pianist and using all its resources (corda, stacatto samples, samples with and without pedal, acoustic noises, etc) makes it impossible to differentiate from an acoustic recording. I’ve found some of them, though is not only a matter of the vst features but the skills of using it artistically and intelligently for someone who knows how it would sound if the same piece was played in a real acoustic. I adore to be confused by a vst recording thinking that is a real piano and at the same time, I hate a lot when I can recognize that the piano is not a real one.
