Lyrics:
Ring them bells, ye heathen
From the city that dreams
Ring them bells from the sanctuaries
’Cross the valleys and streams
For they’re deep and they’re wide
And the world’s on its side
And time is running backwards
And so is the bride - Видеоклипы
There is Bob Dylan, and then there is all other music.
quite
Bob never actually left the gospel. its within him.
I would call that old testament lyrics much more the prophet Jeremiah then Saul of Tarsus
Robert Zimmerman is, what he is. I am happy for that ✌️❤️
It's not gospel its BLUES, fused with soul, country, easy listening, folk, etc, but predominantly BLUES. Take "man in the black coat " for instance that is a waltz 😎. Gospel you have to have church religious lyrics and you've got to have a choir. Gospel and all genre's based on BLUES. I'm a bluesman... 😎
@sxywvgreeneyes you’re right. It is! Blues!
You are right green eyes ✌️
"They're breaking down the distance between right and wrong." That is such an incredibly beautiful lyric. One of the best. Dylan has quite a few - this is one of the best. I think.
Just reading Dylan's autobiography, "Chronicles Volume One". In it he said that last line "....between right and wrong" was the subject of intense debate among himself and the producer of the album "Oh Mercy", Daniel Lanois. At issue was whether it should read "right AND wrong", or "right OR wrong". I don't know which sounds better or which means more or how they resolved their disagreement to end up with "right and wrong". But it does speak to the level of care and intensity with which Bob Dylan the songwriter tries to, as they say, "get it right". I mean he struggled over whether to use the word "and" or use the word "or" when from the outside looking in, I doubt if any of us fans would even notice the difference between the two. I know I certainly didn't.

thank you for your words, thoughts and mind ❣️‼️💞🎶
These lyrics are absolutely brillant and I'm learning to love it as a pray.
In all honesty I would get upset as well if my producer wanted to change and to or in this case
so good
"And the sun is going down upon the sacred cow."
Amen please
What an elegant ending to this song.
Best Lyricist in the whole entire world and his music is beautiful melodies. We thank you and love you Bob

Lyrics:
Ring them bells ye heathen from the city that dreams
Ring them bells from the sanctuaries cross the valleys and streams
For they're deep and they're wide
And the world on its side
And time is running backwards
And so is the bride
Ring them bells Saint Peter
where the four winds blow
Ring them bells with an iron hand
So the people will know
For it's rush hour now
On the wheel and the plow
And the sun is going down upon the sacred cow.
Ring them bells Sweet Martha for the poor man's son
Ring them bells so the world will know that God is one
For the shepherd is asleep
Where the willows weep
And the mountains are filled with lost sheep
Ring them bells for the blind and the deaf
Ring them bells for all of us who are left
Ring them bells for the chosen few
Who will judge the many when the game is through
Ring them bells for the time that flies
For the child that cries
When the innocence dies
Ring them bells Saint Catherine from the top of the room
Ring them from the fortress for the lilies that bloom
For the lines are long and the fighting is strong
And they're breaking down the distance between right and wrong
Thank you
Beautiful and timeless ♡
Amen
Hallelujah 🌸🌸🌸🌹
❤️
Grown men cry at this, or is it just me. It's great.
“For the child that cries when her innocence dies.” Gets me every time. That’s a moment in the life of every human being, for some more traumatic than for others.
It's not just you.
No😢
Just another song on a Dylan album. But a Masterpiece.
Thank you so much Bob Dylan for helping me to heal myself through your Music and Poetry! I 'm so happy! 😂❤
Ring them bells
So the world will know
That Bob is one ..
This is a hymn.
One of Bob Dylan's best songs.
An underappreciated, hidden gem among the many Dylan masterpieces. The verbal images are biblical like "the words of the prophet".
Agreed…the Entire Album seems un/der-appreciated 😕
😂😂 brilliant Dylan. Untouchable he is
Wow so full of feelz ❤
Every time I hear this I get the Feels like I did the first time I heard it!!! WHAT AN EFFORT!!!
It's a great song. Fun to play.
one of the few laureates that deserved the award.
Father,
Blow those trumpets and we will ring them bells. In Jesus' mighty name. Amen❤❤❤
GENIUS SONG
Zonder dat ik het geheel en al begrijp: prachtige poezie, prachtig nummer.
Ik ga me er verder in verdiepen!
This is a hymn
Thanks, Bob
Wow, right? Just WOW.
It's amazing what beauty can be created with sand and glue .
Hallelujah 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Good song from a great album.
Great song from a good album :)
Beautifull lyrics as usual, and nobody could sing it like Bob does.

Brilliant songwriter but a horrible singer
@@thomasandersen6719 Agreed, brilliant writer and the worst singer by far.

*You musta be outta your tiny mind!*
*God did give you ears didn't he?*
*Have you listened to any of his earlier albums at all?*

*Just try listening to any of Bob's songs from the early 60's albums. -- up to John Wesley Harding and then from there up to Desire and Street Legal and 'all of his fantastic gospel songs from 'Slow Train Coming' to 'Saved' and 'Oh Mercy.' onwards.
Maybe then - you will discover the genius of his songs and the way he delivers each and every one of them.*
*Like the Beatles and the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin and pick any other band that you like!* - *There was - 'a lot' of 'heavy drug use' by so many of them!*
*Just thecsame as with the old jazz and blues musicians of the past!*
*And it will crack and wear down your voice eventually.*
*( You still admire the genius of his songwriting though I noticed! )*
*John Lennon and Yoko Ono were heroin users. As was Keith Richards and other Stones members too.*
*Think hard about how many great singers didn't make it past 27 in the sixties!*
*Bob Dylan is - 'A True Survivor!' - and was humbled to give his life to Yeshua - Jesus!*
*( And then give thanks to Jesus with so many beautiful gospel songs.)*
End music from the movie Jack Bull with John Cusack. I warmly recommend to watch
I have never - studio or live - heard Bob Dylan pronounce that clear the lyrics.
Main music from the movie Jack Bull with John Cusack. I warmly recommend
Great movie!
This is a perfect Christmas Song.
Simple the best!
More funeral than Chrismas.amigo.
When I hear this song or ringing bells it makes think about peace on Earth. With this virus that is plaguing humanity the world has became a house divided. Global economies are being destroyed by Covid 19, government intervention, and the World Bank, which has caused many people to totally lose it and forget how to be civil. Hopefully bells will keep ringing and the world will find peace.
I saw Bob outdoors at a festival in 2008. I was amazed at how freaking long and powerful it was. I've seen about 50 concerts but that one was epic. My first sober concert...although when Bob came on I crowded the stage and hit a Doobie or two when he played All Along The Watchtower. Good stuff. Thanks Mr Zimmerman.
He may have been influenced by "I heard the Bells on Christmas Day" by Longfellow on this one. Injustice is discouraging but Christ will prevail, His judgement is coming and it is righteous.
Whatever
@@donaldnegus1027 I suggest listening to I heard the bells on Christmas Day and the Ring them bells. There seems to be some common themes there. Also I think he recorded Iheard the bells on his Christmas album.
Great music , great lyrics, great performence
Salvation Army bell ringing got me to think about this song.
I love this song.
Beautiful Song I Love It
Ring them bells for the chosen few

This song is dedicated to the late Gordon Lightfoot.

No Dylan fan here but may have to rethink it after this beautiful lament. Can't but think that Bob sang this song with tear filled eyes. This treasure and "Murder most foul" got me opening my ears so that I might hear, thank you Troubadour.
He is the ultimate poet laureate. There is no equal peer. See beyond the voice. Once you do, you will see how beautiful his voice truly is.

This is a funeral song for me
Mate, me too I want this and Box of Rain by the Dead at my funeral
My dad requested this song for his funeral, I never got to find out why it had to be this one. Not a dry eye in the place.
Me too and an ode and a poem and a dream and a real_ity. ❤❤

the chosen few...who will judge the many? What group of people is he refearing to?
Who are the chosen?
Just lore from his weird religion at the time
“You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free” when Bob sings them lyrics they have the same meaning as the quote I just typed
Ben Henning Burk: 1st Corinthians 6:3 . "Or do you not know that the saints [believers in Jesus] shall judge angels? Christ is exalted above all, and as He has redeemed us we share in his authority over the fallen angels (the demons, active in our world, to which they are confined), as they, unlike the unfallen angels, are lower than us. As we are told that the angels in heaven are uncountable, it stands to reason that the third that fell away are greater in number than the saints. So, perhaps Bob Dylan is referencing the saints as the chosen few who will judge the many [the fallen angels]. However, maybe not, because we have to chose Jesus, rather than him choose us. Even though he has paid the debt of sin for all mankind past present and future, we have to recognise his stupendous sacrifice and freely accept his gift of eternal life. It's our choice, because God created us with free will. Will you be in that number when the saints go marching in when the game is through.
@@123thof Your silly arrogance is the same that The Beatles used when they said they were more popular than Christ. Two are dead. One is very sick. And, the other will die like all men do. Yet, Christ is alive today and Christ is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Don't die in your weird, self-religion. Turn to Christ and be made whole.
Dylan is nothing if he is not allegorical, seldom literal. So, the chosen few could be The Holy Trinity or those that have been redeemed in Christ. The many that are judged most likely are those that reject Christ. The Word states, "All shall die and stand before their Creator to be judged." Also, "Christ sits at the Right Hand of God making Intercession for those that have received Him as Savior and Lord of their lives". What is absolute is that those that reject Christ while alive on Earth will be, "Cast into the lake of fire where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth". The exact procedure of how Judgment Day works is not as easy to know as other things in the Word, but for certain a day that all will face and have to give an accounting.
Ring them bells for Gaza
they dont ring bells they shout from the towers "here is no god but ,uha, ads fake god "
Bob Dylan doesn't ring his bells for terrorists.
Classic Christian music, that is if you must label it? Labels don't appeal to me, how bout you? An obvious calling that none can deny.
Look around you, are there not lost sheep all around you? Everywhere you look. But anyway, ring the bells you blind heathen. Ring them for the chosen few who can still see, for they will judge the many when the game is through. It won’t be long.
Herbicide ......smells like what?
