I still don’t get how this sinking isn’t super famous, but the titanic is.
the titanic was the biggest ship in her time, and while she wasn't as famous as the olympic, she was still a big deal, and for her to sink on her maiden voyage was a huge deal. Another part of it was how long it took to sink, there were many different stories and pieces. On the other hand, the wilhelm gustloff, isnt talked about at all in places like central europe and russia because ww2 is a sensitive topic.
but yes, this def needs more recognition
The Russian Captain should be done for War Crimes. Surprised they did not rape the surviving women and girls. B'stards.
Same. But I think its because the ship was german. Or it was during war time so they all falsely think it was like a normal battle.
@@hewi9541 true, but at the same time, the Lusitania sunk during a war and it’s pretty famous. Not as famous as titanic but still.
The Germans were not well liked around this time. The story was kinda buried.
The Wilhelm Gustloff is also known as the deadliest ship disaster in maritime history which happened around on January 30, 1945 and about 9,000 people were killed during that disaster
WDYM DEADLIEST SHIP DISASTER ITS DOÑA PAZ
@@coinster2763 The Dona Paz took 4,386 lives where as the Wilhelm Gustloff took about 9,000 lives. if you compare the two you'll see that the estimate of 9,000 is much larger than the Dona Paz death toll by 4,614 lives
@@coinster2763you profile pic is 700% matched as you behaviour

@@coinster2763 stfu if you don’t know what you’re talking about

@@jeriemayignacio1758 the night was freezing and the sea water too... If you fell in the water you would have just 2 minutes to come out before death by body freezing
The part where the people are stuck inside the boat really made me uncomfortable. Shows the talent that went into this
yeah.. i had a weird but horrible gut wrenching feeling during that scene, truly horrible
Yes. Totally agreed. Usually Movies don't concentrate on that.
This makes me sad. If I remember correctly, the captain was told to keep the lights off. If he had listened, this situation may have had a different result.
He DID listen. But the other captains overruled him.
No, some said "turn on the navigation lights"
then "you should have turned it off quickly"
The captain was asked to turn lights on, to avoid any collision with other ships
The accompanying U boat captain said stay in shallow water and turn all lights off. The captain chose to go into deeper water and turned on the green and red running lights to avoid a collision with other ships, which led to the soviet sub seeing and torpedoing them
Technically wrong, the captain said to NOT turn on the lights, but the officer on the bridge(1st or 2nd mate) disobeyed the order
May Them Poor Souls RIP I’m so sorry for those families, children and the horrors of war.
Yeah and these were innocent people just wanting to escape the war
6:58 idk why but this is probably one of the coldest scenes in ocean liner history
For me its knowing there are still so many people still alive inside the ship as it's going down. Horrible way to die.
Such a tragic maritime disaster. It was an evacuee transport ship with thousands of children onboard and some of the captains saved themselves before many of their passengers.
it was awesome did you hear them all screaming much better the titanic they all were so much quieter then this which makes this so much more entertaining then that movie🤣🤣🤣
@@SaraMorgan-ym6ue I mean it was almost real than Titanic. They used the same screaming audio in the Titanic film.
@@carlg.7882 yeah but they used a whole lot more screaming then in Titanic they dialed it up to eleven with the screaming and how much faster the water rushes in to makes it better and more epic a tale of death and tragedy
Wilhelm Gustoff not only acted as a mobile hospital but at the moment of attack was transporting uboat crews. Civilian lives lost are a tragic collateral, but this was the reality of war.
And it was not the confusion with nav lights that doomed them. Soviet submarine’s captain surfaced and turned the lights on, approaching Gustoff from shore side pretending to be a patrol boat.
In sorry. Am I supposed to feel bad?
the sad part is that the children died too and the way the sailors and captain trying to save the people that are still stuck there
It was such a great tragedy that it leaves everyone speechless, thought it was the Titanic but unfortunately it wasn't like that 😢😢😢😢😢😢
This ship was phenomenal because only 2,000 of the 9,400 passengers survived.
No 1200 suvivor and this ship have 10000
1200 survivors and it was 10000.
I heard it was less than a thousand survivors, 996.
Eric Braden was on this ship he was 4 years old at the time
Esses gritos estão em todos os vídeos de simulações de naufrágios do Titanic
Bela escolta que o KMS Admiral Hipper foi pq num vídeo que assisti ele estava escoltando ele, mais sério o afundamento dele foi o mais trágico
Just thinking that more than 9 thousand people perished in this sinking makes my skin crawl

Is this the Hospital Ship during WW2, that carried mostly are Wounded Soldiers, Women and Children ?
Unfortunately, the ship was outfitted with anti-aircraft guns and was also transporting a lot of able-bodied soldiers and officers at the time. The attackers didn't know it was full of refugees, but despite that, the fact that it had guns and was transporting soldiers and officers put it in a different category than simply a hospital ship.
previously a hospital ship, but hadn't been doing that for 4 or 5 years

What a terrible way to go.
Wait Everyone Remained In The Ocean The Following Morning
well, it's not like there was another giant ship nearby to pick them up. The Lowe tried, but could only fit 480 people.
In reality the scene was probably worst than this. They show people helping each other get on the life boats and people trying to swim to safety. In reality the water was so cold that it is unlikely that anyone who went in to the water survived. Even if you were pulled out you would still freeze to death as all your clothes would be wet and all the life boats were full anyway.
oh my God... so horrible... you did nice mixing this video

@@user-dl2zd9pi8wout of 10,000 not really good odds
If at all
Why it so many ppl dead? Here the water it cold -18 c and thw weather cold it 10- C so many ppl dead by that but low dead it by torpedo and why the ship turn light off bc the third torpedo hit the main boiled room
firstly: like only 2 or 3 lifeboats were able to lower to the water
secondly: the sinking was much faster than the titanic. people who were sleeping, even if they woke up in the torpedo, would probably be confused or tired, so they might stay in their room
thirdly: panic was much worse in this ship because firstly everyone was already traumatized from the war, scared that if they get there most of them get sent to war (people between 16-20 went to war i guess), and panicking because most people are pessimists and we know it
fourthly: most of the people got stuck inside glasses, and you might have seen that the glass in this war ship is all bulletproof glass
fiftly: the ship was banking, and since the ship was more crowded, it was much easier to slip and fall in the water, and because of panic, much people lost a lot of stamina, causing them to be too weak to swim.
You right dude finally someone anwers:)

Is she a cruise ship
She was. However, she never really had a chance to be one given that war broke out not long after she entered service.
The Wilhelm Gustloff had various roles throughout the war, such as being used to house U-boat crews, as well as being a hospital ship.
Before you ask, the Wilhelm Gustloff had been repainted prior to her final voyage. So, there was no hospital markings on her

He thought it was German battle ship but it was a cruise ship
Unfortunately, even if he had seen that it was a cruise ship, it would not have mattered. All available German ships, including passenger ships, were commandeered by the navy to move civilians, military personnel and military equipment. By doing that, all ships became fair game

Désastre maritime trop méconnu. Ce film est un rappel de cette terrible tragédie.
Pour la mémoire de toutes ces victimes.
In this FRG propaganda film, it is pretended that the shooting down of the Wilhelm Gustloff was an accident, but - although it was a civilian ship - it was fired! That was just one of many war crimes of the Allies! Even if the Western Allies have committed more crimes than the Soviets. Especially the Americans and British (as they always do) had a lot of fun killing women and children, bombing hospitals and schools, preferably with phosphorus bombs, etc. As an American or British, I would still be ashamed in two hundred years!
If we the civilians carried the shameful actions of our governments on our backs not even god could keep the weight from breaking them. To say the civilians should be ashamed is moronic. Have more sense
I’m not ashamed for what my great grandfather did as I’m not involved in what happened. You can acknowledge it was bad, but the worst advice is to make yourself feel bad for something you never did. By that logic Japan should be wallowing in self pity
@@bikesrcool_1958 But the western world, under the dictates of the USA and Great Britain, is committing terrible crimes in the world right now! And that's shameful!
