Have been back there since, mind that was a while ago now. Justin and myself had an OK day. Several fish to the net. But the weather was dreadful. Lots of rain. The water is not stocked with large numbers, but enough to have a good day. Thanks for the watch and comment mate. Shaun.
So sorry with such a slow reply. Have been so busy this week. And apologies as I have not got round to your last video yet. I will. But most of all thank you for your support. Take care mate. Shaun.
My friend and I gave it a try there for the first time a while ago, lovely water the owner is a very nice guy informed us the day before the fishing was hard because of the weather, both of us managed a few fish certainly will be having a return visit! Good hard fighting fish!
Hi John, yes it is a great water with a heap load of features for fish to hide. The only down side is its depth. As most of the main lake is quite shallow and will always be a problem with weed in summer. Even towards the middle I was picking up weed. But as this drops off its going to be great. I am looking forward to a return. And yes Duncan is a great bloke and honest. He was very busy dealing with the weed when I was there. Good luck on your next visit John. Take care mate. Shaun.
Damn. I have blanked about 5 times on still waters over the last 6 or so years. Its not always what we catch. I think its more as to what we believe in.
I just love the excitement of being on a new water, then trying to work it out. For me its like going on holiday, all new. Thank you so much for the comment, and yes I will continue to learn and hopefully improve. I am sure there will be a few blips on the way. Thank you and take care. Shaun.
Brilliant mate this is genuinely one of my favourite videos that you’ve done, we’ve all been there when the tales are sparse and it’s total euphoria when one finally takes a proper bite
I really enjoyed that afternoon, and mainly due to it being such a quality water with so much to offer. Will be back there before long. It really does not feel like this was six months ago. And to think that I cant wait to get back there. Time is passing bye so quick. And when I go back, if it turns out to be only one fish again. I will be happy. Its all about time on the water and fishing. It works for me Stuart. Hey thank you so much for the comment. I hope you enjoy the next Pont y bedw. Take care Stuart.
Believe me James fishing is like swings and roundabouts. Every day is going to be different. But to better your chances, have a few waters that you can fish. Find out when stock goes in. This time of year stock fish become established around three to four days, so long as there is a good abundance of food. After that the fishing starts to get very difficult. Then head of to the next water. Fresh stock will accept most patterns and will take at speed. And more often still higher in the water. As it becomes more difficult you will find going deeper and slower should pay. Stock fish in winter take a lot longer to become established, as there is not as much food around. You will experience a lot of RUclipsrs target stock fish to put on a show. Even the competitions have a load of stock fish put in, just for the comp. When you start fishing for resident fish, its always going to be hit and miss. But you will learn a lot more. And we find it so much more rewarding. Last week I went onto our local water, that had been stocked four days previous. I changed so many flies trying to find something they did not want. I failed. Fishing starts with you, your own confidence. Over time you will gain that confidence, but you must always believe in your self first, and gain confidence in every thing you do. Keep your line tight and rod tip low, even with a very slow retrieve. Keep contact with your fly. I hope you enjoy your experience of fly fishing. Its a great pass time. Even just the casting once you get to gripes with it. Tight lines James. And all the best mate. From all of us here. Shaun.
Well done Shaun, you deserved that one mate. A really pretty fishery with lots of variation and a good size. Yes, summer fishing has its challenges. Here in Norway, the local rivers and lakes are running at between 22 and 25 Celcius. So basically too hot to fish for the health of the fish. Take care mate and I hope conditions improve soon
Thank you David, and yes it is stunning and not that deep. We will go back there in a few months. As you said the fish must be considered. I know of a few waters around here. The dead fish are being pulled out every day. I can't say if it is due to miss handling, but some of it is. We have had a few on our water that are uneducated in handling fish. So I deal with it. One bloke was massive and sort of leader of the pack. There were five of them. I was actually being nice about it. Asking him if I could talk to him about c/r. He went off his head and shouting at the top of his voice so his mates could hear him give me shit. It did not last long as I made him look so pathetic. Told him sort it out or get out. It was months before I seen him again. He was on his own and never said a word. But we are lucky on our water, the conditions are still good. That is more down to our location. We are on the edge of the Atlantic and Irish Sea. The biggest problem here for the boys is getting used to casting in strong winds. Most of them retire to the one bank with wind behind them. Thank you so much again David always look forward to hear from you. Shaun.
Hi bud, nice to have a comment, a proper one. Ye that would be great, but the fishing is crap at moment. But you can have time out with Di, Steve and my self. Cu soon. Or one day.
Nice fish at the end Shaun, also looking forward to your return in the fall. Conditions are definitely slow here in summer as well. The water is too warm and the weeds too high. Thanks for the video.
Thanks mate, I must ipologise as I did not watch your latest video yet, and if I am correct I did not comment on the one before. Yes most waters over here at the moment are suffering. But our home water is good. We are located next to the Atlantic and Irish Sea. We have our own little climate, and this is why the water is nearly always chopy. Thanks for the comment Sean, catch up soon promise. Shaun.
You made me laugh with your introduction Shaun! “Just have a couple of hours fishing on the way home from work!” - sounds like me. If I do a disappearing act or late home from work the last few weeks, the Mrs assumes I’ve gone fishing lol. Which I will have! Are you a plumber? Noticed your van rack and pipe carriers. I’m a bathroom fitter and plumber, and, yes I racked out my van so I could rough it in the summer and throw a sleeping bag in the back of it on fishing trips. I have some plans for fishing trips and different venues this year. So, a few weeks back into the sport, out every weekend and an hour every night the last few weeks practising casting (and fishing) and it’s starting to pay dividends. A difficult day yesterday at Ynysyfro, plenty of blanks and single fish recorded. I nearly left at midday as hasn’t had a single knock! Tried everything and every tactic apart the bung, which I’m not sure I want to?? Tried one last twist of a technique and bang 1st fish! 10 minutes later, 2nd fish, then 3rd fish. Then others anglers started fishing with me nearby, one even tried the same fly but had no knocks. Anyway in 3 hrs yesterday afternoon, I lost 3 fish, netted 7 and had up-teen knocks!!! I remembered one of your videos mentioning blue in the fly, so with a subtle tweak on a technique with some blue in a fly, I recorded my lifetime best! Oh, whilst on the bank I also ordered a rede river floater to replace the floater which cane with the Shakespeare sigma combo starter kit, and also won an eBay auction for a mint condition, second hand Airflo super stick 2 at a cracking price! The sigma rod is performing well but I wanted a second rod and a faster action rod as my casting is improving. What a day. Anyway back to you mate! Another cracking video and once again thanks for all the content you put out as you’re my go to fishing channel for learning now I’m back in the game! All the very best Shaun! Jonathan
This is a cracking comment. And I love it. There is a load of things that can switch the fish on. So many times on the water and nothing happening. Then all of a sudden they are on. The way I learnt fishing is the hard way. We had no internet, and I had nobody to teach me. So I just take in whats going on in front of me, and think of the fish. They like comfort, safety and food. But they don't feed a day. Stock fish love flash and movement. Resident fish being a bit tricky, so I go more natural. But they will on occasions attack the flash stuff. Never rule anything out when it comes to fish. This can be a very challenging past time. But its great. Two anglers side by side with what we think is the same set up. The fish see something else. It could be many things. Tippet could be a different make. One could be throwing more light out. The fly could have a tweak, which is making it do something different. On and on. We will never work it out. But so long as we are happy and have a good time. Bung fishing has never been my thing. I have tried it. But I did not enjoy it. On the day it can be the top method. The boys at Garnffrwd do a lot of this. But last week the straight line hammered the bung. Its simply a choice. If you want loads of fish to the net, then you will do what ever it takes to get them. Or you are there for a nice relaxing, socialising fishing day. So many out there now are more concerned about numbers. Its great when you get a red letter day. One day you get five the next you want six. Where does it end. For me and most of the boys its the relaxing, Socialising fishing we enjoy most. And a rod can work for one but not the next. I will talk about the rods I have some time on a video. Take care mate. Shaun.
