Man. I wish I had taken more note of your stuff when I started. As you say, I am a noob builder AND flyer. I tried building a simple soarer, way too hard for a noob to build. It didn't fly so well. So i went for a simpler build, way harder to fly! Now I'm starting with your designs. Haven't flown anything yet, but the building is so much easier and it seems way tougher. Thank you for this video. I started making a noob tube, but dropped the project for a photon when I learned how unstable it is. now my worries are that the photon will be too heavy for my motor. I think I'll go back to the noon design and use your popsicle stick method of dihedral. and also add some small half length ailerons to the ends. can't wait to be flying!

I use the same joint for 2m gliders like the spirit.. I even built a 3m bird of time with such joints. But I fill it up with hot glue and making it heavy but stiff. Holds up quite well! ;) God bless yall
I honestly was expecting the wing tip brace (the gift, credit card) was going to be attached to the wing tip by cutting into the foam spar as needed so it would be fixed to the bottom of the wing from the inside. It would look better and likely make adjusting of the angle easy, or used as a minor wing tip modification. I was also expecting it to be glued in place since it could be cut off at the wing tip if desired later and not distract from the performance of the wing. I haven't read all the comments, so it may be someone else has suggested the same thing. I realize this video was published a while ago and some who might want to make the changes I have suggested may no longer be watching this video, but I suspect others visiting this channel might and could plan to make the change I suggested at the time of the build. I continue to expect many new scratch builders/pilots to watch these great videos in the future.
I'm totally impressed with that angled wing joining technique "the popsicle-stick method". Thanx! Maybe I'll try that on the wing ends and use a small section of an Armin wing as the winglets(?) a little unobtrusive tape can allow it to be removed if desired... gotta go get some more foam board - and.... hmmm maybe cherry popsicles... yeah. Tim get a SAFE receiver that comes in the Horizon Hobby Apprentice airplane. Its a flight stabilizer that will limit the bank angle so you can't roll the model. It also will self level if the sticks are released. RC Groups.com has a thread on how to set it up. Search for 'using SAFE receiver in another plane'. Makes it was at easier to learn.

Pretty sure that's called Tip Dihedral. Polyhedral would mean the inner sections are also canted. How do you determine the ideal width of the outer panels? I haven't been able to find a consistent method for figuring that out. I've seen recommendations range from 20%-40% of the wingspan.
Can it be slowed down and increase lift without the polyhedral extensions just by shimming the wing front and increasing the attack angle? Or will that mess up the ailerons or something else? Or make the attachment point to the tube weak?
You're not actually increasing the angle of attack but the angle of incidence. I mean, in level flight (airflow coming through the longitudinal axis of the fuselage) the angle of incidence will be equal to the angle of attack, but AoA varies under flight conditions. Basically, you have to know at what angle your airfoil will provide the lift to keep the aircraft in level flight, and you pick that angle to mount your wings so that the fuselage can be moving "straight" and level, reducing drag. If you're an acrobatics guy, you'd want a 0º angle or else you have gravity and lift pulling your plane into the ground.

I have a pair of Turnigy D2826-6 2200kv motors that I love to mount on one of your designs. I don't know what the "6" after the dash stands for. I also have a Turnigy 2200nAH 4s lipo pack 11.1v 2200mah 50C EZ 3 Cell Flite Pro Lipo Battery. Will both of these batteries work with this motor? I'd like to do some acrobatics and some decent speed flying. Do you think I could build a large Noob Tube to accommodate these power set-ups? If not, which of your designs would?
Wow, if I am reading the number right, that is a lot of motor and without visiting the H King website to check the stats, I would suspect the motor can handle and suck dry the 4s and 3s battery packs with little effort. If you are really interested in the motor details and what power, or voltage it was designed for, go to the H. King website and look at the chart. Also note the recommended ESC. If you have an ESC that is rated a few amps higher, no problem, but don't try one a few amps lower, or it likely won't last long soon after you go full throttle.
Yes, you can use the larger motors used in drones. In his other videos he makes recommendations and in most cases he will suggest a motor in the 2212 size, unless your build is heavy. If it is, you will want a stronger motor, prop, ESC, and battery size. Generally speaking, if you weigh you finished model, add 10 percent for the RC gear, you will have a good idea what motor, prop, and such in thrust you will need. If you can produce enough thrust with the combo to come real close to the the models ready-to-fly weight, it will fly just fine.

You need an elevator. You can't fly a plane like this with only aeilrons. You can build a flying wing and then you only need elevons (ailron plys elevator in one control surface)

what I dont see in all of these kind of planes, flite test, etc... is all the alignment challenges that I had to go thru when I balsa built a plane that flew for 20 seconds crashed and then of course I have not revisited this hobby since the 80's. I have always yearned to get back in. is there some huge missing segment that I dont get? lol, are these truly idiot proof. probably doesn't matter, im building something like this this weekend. I completely (I think) understand how these are built. im certainly making this wing about 12 feet long (not really)
you can fly a sheet of foamboard with no wing. its not exactly idiot proof but its not as hard as it seems intially. you can get pretty much anything to fly. battery tech much improved since the 80s too

I used popsicle sticks(4, 2 for each side) on a spirit 2m glued and bathed on hot glue. Holding up beautifully

ed how do you think the axon would like some Polyhedral
Most any design can benefit from that to help it self correct when needed. Very common on old free flight designs and others.
