Nobody stays #1 (in the conference) forever... they were also left a total cl*ster fuck last year and had less than a year to prepare the rebuilding, with a first time head coach and tier two level staff and players. Perhaps in time they will be relevant again, but they are probably going to be pretty weak for a while.
