    The rocket mass heater was so nice to fire up! What are you using to heat your home?

    • @B2GOG
      @B2GOG 10 месяцев назад +3

      We have tried all kinds of heaters from ceramic to Mr buddies. The electric ones use way too much solar power and the propane one isn't very efficient either. We just got a diesel heater in the mail to try this year and supposedly you can run 24 hours on one gallon so hoping this works. We hope to have a wood stove or rocket mass heater once we build our home but trying to find a temporary solution while we are in the camper.

    You may want to bring in out side air Intake to the entrance of the fire box.you could go into the side 4-8inches below where you put in the fire wood. I brought in outside air Intake and my heat increased by 4 times Wood use went down and propane use also decreased. Best change ever.

    I saw the short on the straw on the floor in the cellar but I would really think that one out! I use straw bedding in my horses stalls . It MOLDS and It holds water and MOLDS Black junk even without the horses. It has tons of bugs and bug eggs!! Also a big one is RATS love the stuff! Great for nests! Where we store the bales is covered an in doors... It's why we went to wood pellets . SO much cleaner and no MOLD!!!!! Straw loves black mold and bugs! So I would not use it in a under ground room! Straws soak up water from the air!

    Your chimney unloading under the eaves is terrifying. The cob may be fireproof but you have a significant amount of wood up there as well. Additionally, the eaves are holding that smoke and it's likely to come back into your house from there.
    I realize there's no code where your building, (lucky) but that is one I would follow.

    If you want a dwg i would recommend a high tunnel maybe 34' or 36' with 2nd tunnel about 12' wider than the inner tunnel with geodesic dome halfs on either end of both tunnels. And tunnels made of some insulative material like eps air creete or hemp bast conerete for north side and top. The long side should facing north/south with the south side covered with greenhouse plastics and a 2ndary heating like your rmh. Another place to get plans for what i understand and believe to be the most efficient design rmh stove is honeydo carpenter channel.

    Hey Jess and Jim, I like the rocket stove and am thinking about building one for my outdoor kitchen. Here in Thailand, it's so hot year-round that most people cook outdoors. There are occasions in the northern parts of Thailand that it gets a little chilly at night in the winter months and that is where I will be moving to next year so I might want to put a small one inside the house. Chilly here is when it gets in the 50's.
    You guys should come to Thailand for a visit. If you don't mind the hot weather, it's not bad in early May as it does start to get hot towards the end of May. It's November now, and I am sleeping without the air conditioning, so it's pretty nice.

I covered it up, but since then bought some plexiglass. It's growing in a cattle lick tub, so can't bring it inside. Hopefully it survives the winter. I just covered my multiple Aloe Vera plants and zucchini. I still need to bring the Aloe inside before the next freeze. The zucchini survived and I've been able to harvest a few squashes.
