I just can't believe the ignorance of people. I am so glad about the amount of awareness you have raised and continue to raise. I will absolutely be having a conversation with my children about what happened with this film. I remember when my daughter was really small there was a cbeebies presenter with one arm - I thought brilliant, for many reasons, whereas some parents were complaining and saying it was scary for their child! Words fail me. Any of them could have children who becomes or are born with disfigurement or disability and I'm sure they'd change their mind pretty fast in this case. Huge respect and love Jen, you're so awesome. Xxx

My dear Jen, ever since I saw the promotional material for the witches you have been on my mind. I can only begin to imagine how it must make you feel. Thank you for your honesty and genuine content. I had a classmate and friend with ectrodactyly and it makes me feel awful for her also. She is an amazing person and professional whom I admire deeply and it is disgusting that the media associates any condition actually with vilany or whatever other arbitrary characteristic. I have such admiration for your strength and courage. I’m happy to see you back at any rate and hope you are well.

Welcome back Jen! I’ve been away from booktube for a bit, and I almost forgot how much I love your videos! You are a delight... and your voice is soothing too which is a lovely bonus 😜
What I don't understand is how it is possible that so many people are involved in the making of such a movie and nobody thinks about what is wrong about doing what they did. Do they really all don't know someone with a disability? Or do they just don't care? Thank you so much that you are so engaged, it must be incredibly hard to do that, especially with all the hate you have to endure sometimes. Even with having someone with a disability in my family myself, who already taught me a lot, I still learned so much from you and hope to continue to learn.
How sad and awful that hateful people came to your post like that. However small and minute of a consolation this might be, you are making a difference and getting people to open their eyes to these biases. I have been actively challenging a lot of media with my 5-year-old and getting her to question what she sees and that some cartoons and books might be harmful to other people. Even as a kindergartener, she is starting to "get it". I am ashamed to admit I might not have even thought to have these conversations with her regarding this and other harmful tropes, but after watching your videos discussing disfigurement and villainy in the media, it is always something we are on the look-out for and challenge! Thanks for your wonderful content ❤️
I'll share your video on my sunday post on the blog :) Too bad you didn't have the time to take that screenshot, it would have been priceless !! Lots of love sent to you :-*
10 books! What an amazing accomplishment! ☺ I'm astounded by the way they handled the promotion of that film. I hate that you got so much vitriol thrown your way. I love you, we love you. Your advocacy is a beautiful thing in a world that is so bland, so boring and filled with such predictable hate. 💜
I'm sorry about all the horrible beepholes xxx You're Not Listening sounds like such a great book and I loved what you said about that even though it's definitely not easy ❤️xxxx I've taken note of the board game recommendations too , so thank you for that ❤️ Sending lots of love as always 😘❤️ xxxx
Still so, so jealous of your copy of Castles of Burgundy, it's so pretty and mine's so plain haha. If you liked Azul, check out Sagrada. It plays well with 2 but I think can go up to 4? And it, also, is a pattern oriented game but with dice rather than tiles. So the pieces you have to work with are based on how the dice roll out which makes it a very different puzzle every game since you never know which colored dice will roll which numbers to allow for which patterns. If you liked Patchwork, I love-love-love-love Cottage Garden (which is also designed by Uwe Rosenberg, so same designer). It is bigger Patchwork with a gardening theme in place of the patching theme. Rather than having a single board, you compete to fill out the most. I do caution one thing though, it is VERY similar to Patchwork. And I can see how some people would feel that there's no need to have both because of how similar they are. Glad to hear you have survived last week. Hugs, lots of love, and always remember you are beautiful no matter what anyone tells you.
Thank you for your content Jen :) Yours is my favourite channel :) this video prompted me to respond - something I am usually shy about doing online. It is unfortunate that social media has given rise to a lack of sensitivity to the human being behind the scenes. It has allowed for a sort of cowardice and impulsive behaviour, which is very sad... I am sorry to hear that you were at the receiving end of that vitriol. Please know that you are appreciated!
Lovely video. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. Sad about those horrible hate comments you received. Just so you know, I look forward to your videos a lot and derive a lot of inspiration from them. More power to you Jen!
I'm sorry about the hate you got... It's great that your post went viral in all the big media! Thank you for speaking out and educating us about these things. Before I saw your videos I hadn't realised what a prevalent trope it was, and now it makes me angry whenever I spot it. Lots of love!
I am not disfigured but I am a witch. So honestly on both points… damn… I used to just love Roal Daal… but I can’t believe that people think this is ok. This could be dangerous to people… not just hurt someone’s feelings. (Which is also plenty bad)
Its fab to see you back and looking forward to the new book. We have forgotten how to listen to each other and we all know more and feel we're better than the next person. I always wonder what those people who send such hateful messages to total strangers are thinking. May be this is how they make them selves feel better about who they are or their situation. I listened to a podcast where a man contacted some of those who had left horrendous twitter comments, simply because he was gay. One man who he did get to speak to said, at that time he was so depressed he just wanted to make someone else feel as awful as he did. Keep using your platform to educate people, its the only answer to ignorance. 20 hateful comments is also 300 people who have never looked at something from that perspective and have had their eyes opened. They just don't comment as much. ❤️
Sounds like a tough week, thank you so much for your work! If you need another board game recommendation: Spirit Island is great! It's cooperative, and you play these spirits that work together with the natives on an island to get rid of the invading colonists (it's very delightfully post/anti colonial in that way). It's a bit of luck but mostly strategy, and you can also very easily make the game easier/harder to play :) Depending on how hard you make it it takes about 1-2 hours to play I think? My s.o. and I have played it loads these past few months.
Jen I am so sorry to hear the news re witches. At this time of people trying to hear about black lives, it appears people only pay attention and respect what ever is, fashionable. Rediculous. My sister works for Warner Brothers in London and I will be passing this on to hear and others. People can be so stupid. Missed you and love you, you beautiful woman. Xx
I literally saw her Anne Hathaway video and my first thought was Oh s*** they've taken something like what Jen has (and many others) and demonised it. I was not impressed and I won't be watching the film because its just a big nope. Take care lovely, keep speaking out. I plan to keep speaking out my own personal diagnosis, these are things that affect how we interact with the world and sometimes to what degree we interact with it, people cannot do better if they don't know better.
I am so sorry to hear about the people who decided to tone police you and talk down to you over your posts/articles/interviews. I hadn't heard about that marketing for the film and part of me cannot understand how it got past multiple levels of brainstorming, and yet the rest of me is sadly not surprised.
Oh my gosh, Jen, I can’t believe some of those comments you got, how terrible. I admire that you keep trying and that you engaged with some of the people commenting to try to educate them etc, but it sounds so exhausting. Hope you have a more restful week this week, thank you as ever for the video 😀
humans can be so horrible. I'm sorry you have to experience that level of ignorance and hatred. thank you shedding light on this. I'm so happy you have a dog friend though. they are the mostly loyal and nonjudgmental friends.
I have a sort of complex relationship with booksellers such as Hive, although I have purchased from them before. I fully support buying from independent booksellers, I think they are 100% vital to be supporting... But I also don't want to be giving my money to bookstores that are not wheelchair accessible. I think I might email Hive and now the Bookstore you mentioned, and just ask them about this and see how they reply. I do not want my money going to businesses that have not become accessible in 2020, 25 years after the DDA and 10 since the EA. My job as a disabled access consultant is to help places become accessible, not just for wheelchair users like myself but for a range of disabilities, so it feels wrong to be giving my money to businesses who aren't doing the right thing. I don't know how you feel about this Jen but I'd be interested in hearing your thoughts, if you want to share them/have any. I really feel exhausted that society is still trying to moderate us to be the "nice" disabled person who *doesn't complain* and *doesn't make things "difficult"*. But balancing it with your own mental health is vital. Really appreciate you talking about this, as ever. 💖
They put out a general statement which was very dismissive, saying they intended her hands to look like cat claws. Anne Hathaway made a more genuine statement backing the Lucky Fin Project saying she was sorry she hadn’t thought to make the connection. I do actually believe that but not making the connection I suppose is part of the problem. Whilst I appreciate this, an apology wasn’t my goal; the goal was to continue this conversation, to raise awareness of the issue so that it happens less and less x
@@jenvcampbell Hopefully they have learned something for the future. Sending you positive vibes, because you seem to have had quite the year. Lots of love. X

Thank you for putting energy and effort into the subject of raising awareness. It isn't easy. I applaud your courage and power.
Hi, Jen!
I came to the comment section to thank you for always speaking up about these issues and being the voice of those who don't have this kind of platform or reach to raise awareness on important messages. I'm a SpanishEnglish translator, and I'd like to volunteer to subtitle your videos into Spanish, so your content can reach even more people; and I could also collaborate with closed captioning in English, if you happen to need help with that as well.
Love from Argentina!
I admire you’re strength and courage to speak your mind and educate others. I wish I could more like that. Keep going.
Thank you for the wonderfully kind energy you spread, in spite of the vileness thrown at you... Your work is always so excellent and compassionate and educated - so thank you
I adore you Jen. Thank you for your ongoing emotional labor ❤️
This work you are doing is SO important, Jen - thank you!!!!! ❤️❤️
I’m so grateful for you engaging in that community and being vulnerable. You’re a stronger person than me. Much, MUCH love to you, a dear, sweet, kind, generous, brave woman who is a light in this world and DEFINITELY writes about empathy and love. Who KNOWS empathy and love. Xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
sending you virtual hugs for all the work and kindness you put out in the world. ty for the glimpse into current boardgames, i LOVED the recs you gave last time, such a cool collection i'll be checking out several of them!
A lovely and cozy video.
Sending you love, what a tiring week!
I love chats with Jen. ❤️ And hopefully this goes without saying, but we don't mind the different lighting. We're here to hear what you have to say.
Xxx
Yes, her name is Cerrie. I spoke about her here if that's of interest xx ruclips.net/video/lEmVZfChzuQ/видео.html
@@jenvcampbell brilliant thanks Jen ❤️ I will definitely watch. We have one of her children's books too.
I spoke to my 6y old after watching your video - she was really shocked both about the witches and very sad that you experience such horrible comments. She has started making you a picture! She wants to post it to you but I totally appreciate you may not want to give out your address. So happy to take a photo and email if you'd prefer xx
@@YourTrueShelf Email would be lovely, though if you would like to post, post reaches my via my publisher: Jen Campbell, C/O Two Roads Books, Carmelite House, 50 Victoria Embankment, London. EC4Y 0DZ. xx
Great video. Thank you for continuing raise awareness in such a positive, important way. Keep being brilliant 😀
So glad to see you back. I thought of you when I saw the news stories on The Witches. I'm proud of you for educating others and I know your words are reaching those who need to stop and rethink their words and actions. Some realize this and become defensive, lashing out at you. Try not to pay them any attention. You are an amazing human being! 💗📚📖
Thank you for recommending Rahdo, this is going to be so helpful for seeing if games will be suitable for me and my son before I buy them. As a single parent it's my way of forcing him away from screens so we can have a conversation.
Happy watching and playing!
Love you Jen. Have been following the whole thing on social and other media . I am so sorry you have to spend your time doing this but hopefully you have reached out and made some kind of difference. Glad to see you back - it feels like chatting with an old friend xx PS thanks for all the board game recommendations. I struggle to find games which work for only 2 players when looking in stores etc..
sending you love & support, Jen :)
thank you for sharing your thoughts and trying to educate people, even when it's exhausting and overwhelming. you are a very bright presence, it's a shame you didn't manage to grab that screenshot!
A big hug from Italy, Jen!
I always learn SO MUCH from you. You are the best ! It's completely understandable that you needed a break, I don't know how you manage to cope but I'm so glad that you do :)
Many thanks for your time and thoughts💗
I really appreciate you for your work and as a person as well, and I'm really glad you keep on doing what you do despite all of the hate people throw on you just out of their ignorance. lots of love from Italy :)
I think you are terrific and I have learned a lot from you and your videos and I thank you for your efforts to educate. I am sure it is not easy. And u r so darned smart too!
Thank you for sharing this, love your authenticity
you are so awesome in every way
I wonder if you might like Sagrada? It’s similar to Azul/Patchwork, but has sudoku vibes. It’s beautiful, great for two players, and doesn’t take long to play. ♥️
You are an absolute rockstar!
I’ve already “not made” plans for Christmas as am a “very vulnerable to Covid” person. Probably have a quiet Christmas here and then possibly have tea and Christmas cake with the respective parentals either in the garden or in a well ventilated room.
Exactly. x
@@jenvcampbell it’s not the same but I don’t want to get my own and my families hopes up for a jolly, stuffy, indoor Christmas. Is this the first in your new flat? I’m sure you’ll make it super festive x
I’ve been a subscriber to your channel for years and I still can’t understand why people are so cruel to someone with such a gentle soul like yours. Hugs and kisses 😘
I am sorry to hear that you got anything negative, cruel or aggressive on the back of your post - I thought it was wonderful and loved watching conversations around the topic unfold.
Those board game recommendations are on point, I’ve added a bunch to my list for other people’s stockings so thank you!
if you are looking for more cosy/comforting games I would recommend the tea dragon society card game! ❤️
Thank you for all you do, Jen. Your videos are absolutely wonderful. I’ve learned so much from you. Following you on social media and watching your videos has opened my eyes and consistently warmed my heart. Sending lots of love. As an American, I agree with your statement that the election seemed to last five years. Luckily, the orange child is gone! 💙
I love you, Jen 💕
however do you decide what to play any given day? nice work on bridge building jen.
I think everyone is just so used to how it is being portrayed and most people don't ever question it. Like with many other things, really.
My favorite board game is Balderdash.
You're amazing!
I watched very few videos this week. Couldn't stop watching and waiting for election results. Such a relief to have it over.
I am not disfigured but I am a witch. So honestly on both points… damn… I used to just love Roal Daal… but I can’t believe that people think this is ok. This could be dangerous to people… not just hurt someone’s feelings. (Which is also plenty bad)
You are just admirable, thank you an keep going :)
We have that, just haven’t played it yet ☺️ looking forward to it x
Jen I am so sorry to hear the news re witches. At this time of people trying to hear about black lives, it appears people only pay attention and respect what ever is, fashionable. Rediculous. My sister works for Warner Brothers in London and I will be passing this on to hear and others. People can be so stupid. Missed you and love you, you beautiful woman. Xx
Sustained and sustainable conversation on all topics is very important.
Oh, my goodness, that person who commented about "why don't you write something positive like Franklin's Flying Bookshop?!" 😂😂😂
She's not mine; she's my mother-in-law's, but I'm glad we get to borrow her sometimes :) x
Get some rest, Jen! You worked hard 💜 Thanks for all you do!
Once this book is handed in, I will x
Yes, your channel is always a positive space to me
Has Warner Brothers responded to your post and interviews? It really sucks that you have to deal with that, especially now. Love you and your channel.
I'm pretty young to understand how to help but I'm making a point to be open to correction and learn on other person's behalf anytime!! love ya...and sorry for what you went through (Your heart in my opinion is as good as my mum's. She's home, I miss her. I missed you).
You are so patient with people it's untrue. You do however have more intelligence and that shows x
I appreciate your commitment to educating people about the harmful representation in media. I've really been enjoying your vlogs (especially that challenge to read a whole shelf) and love the board game content as well. Have you played Fresco?
Who the actual writes to someone with those Vile messages? I’m so sorry you had to go through those comments, sending so much love
You're like Andy from The Old Guard (yes, the Netflix movie haha). Even though you might feel like it's pointless sometimes, the impact you've already made is immesurable. I'm sure you know that but I just wanted to say that I think so too :)
More power to you. Sometimes I feel ashamed of the human race
HAHA he listed Franklin's Flying Bookshop with ignorance. All those words were horrible and I hate people for saying that about you. As always, I admire your grace, humility, and positivity when talking about disfigurement, especially when horrible words and inaccurate views are thrown your way.
