- Full Amtrak Pacific Surfliner Ride from Los Angeles to San Diego, CA. The views were gorgeous, and I enjoyed the speed and efficiency of the train ride. I couldn't believe the ocean views and the great Pacific Coast of Southern California. The entire ride cost me $36.00.

I took this train once but it was dark so this is great for me to see what I missed! If you get back to the west coast you should try riding the Coast Starlight from LA to Seattle sometime.

When you next take this train trip please be sure to sit on the upper level you get a better view then sitting on the lower level. I say that because I have taken this train a few times before and I love it. As a matter of fact I took this train a few days after you did

You should try Amtrak Coast Starlight which will take you from Los Angeles to Seattle. If you book a cabin it will include your meals. Cost is almost the same as a one night stay in a hotel.

LA -San Diega 190 km 2:45 hours. Ouuch. USA needs bullet trains. A Bullet train can do this in 40-50 minutes.
A lot of winding tracks slowly going through the mountains south of Solano Beach to San Diego really slows the train down. Not to mention that there's about 9 stops of about 5 minutes each before you get to San Diego.
