Good points. I am a composer/musician, working on putting together my first album of originals and releasing studio sessions and even music videos. I have been playing piano for over 20 years now but never shared with the world until recently. Sometimes it’s hard to keep going when rather mundane music or silly cat videos get hundreds of thousands of views. I find that sharing my own originals is a bit scary because I am sharing a personal part of me. I have decided to stop looking at my video stats and just keep going. Art is about creation, it will speak to someone. Choose the path that has your heart.
I literally just uploaded my first vlog a couple of hours ago. I was surprised to find myself a little depressed that it’s gotten zero views so far then I watched your video and realized it ultimately doesn’t matter how many views it gets. This is my personal journey and people can come with me if they want but they’re not obligated to. Thank you.
Hi, thanks yeah absolutely! I’m glad you got something out of the video. It can be hard when no one reacts to something you’ve put out there, especially if you’ve put a lot of effort and emotion into it. But keep going and you’ll find with each upload you’ll get a little better, learn a little more, get a little more creative! Just under a year ago I started doing Live Streams on RUclips every Saturday, when I started there was literally no one at the live streams. It felt a little silly live streaming to no one but I just kept with it and did it just for my own enjoyment, now I have between 70 to 100 regulars joining me live every Saturday and it’s still growing! So I really believe the secret is in enjoying the process because if we’re enjoying it then we can keep doing that thing for a long time regardless of how many people and watching or listening and all great things take time to grow and build. Sorry for the long message but I hope that helps? 😊👍
Man im player from brazil, living in a small mountain city, miguel pereira near rio de janeiro... but i gig a loooot in good places, just my voice and acoustic guitar, harmonica too... and with me the pivotal moment was when i start to play the songs i really like... played guitar with pop bands and my blues band.. blues festivals and so... but playing acoustic by myself was a game changer... and your channel is a must... inspire me a lot... keep doing man...
Ah man, that makes me happy! 😊 thank you, I really appreciate you saying that. Ever since being a solo acoustic guitarist, singer and songwriter I’ve never looked back. The simplicity of an acoustic guitar and voice is the best!!
Great points Fabian, you've been an inspiration for me recently with your approach (specially the one-mike recording sessions, I got a Nohype because of you haha). I also wanted to say that it's natural to feel disappointment for maybe a lack of interest from other people, you being the one that's making the music will always be more involved than others... But once you feel that disappointment for the first time you realize that it really isn't that scary. Or at least that was my experience
Hey Samuele, so glad you’ve been getting inspired from my videos, that really makes me happy 😊 how are you finding the NoHype? They’re great mics for the price! Oh yeah absolutely it’s totally normal to have these feelings especially at the beginning of your recording journey. I still feel like this sometimes 😅
@@FabianHollandGuitar I'm loving the nohype, still not getting results as clean as I'd like, but there's time for that (I'm using as reference your video where you play "I must live all alone", which has incredible audio and performance quality), finding the correct distance from the mic can be tricky haha.
Amazing words ! Music is freedom no matter what tone you play. This is my feeling as being a small musician of improvisations in this crazy world....❤ Start before being ready.
Hey Donfredu! Cheers I appreciate that. Sorry I think I’ve been saying Don for short at the live streams but it’s all one name right? My apologies if I’ve been saying it wrong this whole time!
@@FabianHollandGuitar no worries Fabian....everyone calls me "don"....donfredu is my artist name. Very nice what you explained in this video....wise words!
Hej Fabian, thanks for that! Confirmed my attitude exactly the right time. Where'd you suggest releasing? (Spotify is not mine because I think it exploits musicians.) How extraordinary it must have felt, finding yourself written about in that magazine. Amazing!
Hi, thanks so much!! I do use Spotify but I’m not a fan of using it. I’ve heard that Bandcamp is something a lot of musicians are using, I’m not on it myself but I’m looking into it. I also think RUclips is still a great way to be discovered as a musician. Yeah it was really nice to be in magazines at that time but I’m not sure that it actually did anything for my career? Still nice to be featured though.
Hi, thanks so much! Yeah sure 👍 I generally try to do as least as possible in post. Depending on the mic and the setup I usually give it a low cut around 60Htz. With the reverb I like to have a fairly long one but I’ll cut out all the high frequencies just in the reverb so that way it doesn’t get in the way of my playing and also to me it sounds more natural.
i released couple albums and made music videos, vids on RUclips endless gigs open mics and jam nights. i make music for me yea ,but no one gives a fuck it really is what it is i guess lol
Thanks so much!! Oh that’s true 😂 I do like a clear desk, but when I’m songwriting it’s a mess! That’s why it needs to be tidy to make space for all the paper 😉👍
You're right. Just before we go on stage to play - this is out mantra. "Okay guys lets have fun, and remember = No one is really listening!"
Totally true brother. I have the solids i call them. The ones who actively hope for a new song or release. I play for me mostly.

@@FabianHollandGuitar thanks for taking the time to reply! All great information and advice! Thank you!
Love this video! I watched it again before doing a gig last night playing all originals. Needed this reminder of why i love making music!
Brilliant advice and a refreshing way to look at. ☮️ ❤&🎶
Thanks, glad you enjoyed the video! 😊
Preaching to the converted here, Fabian. My music is only for me! But I care about your music too... 😉

so sad,but I'm same too
If you're making music for other people, you're making it for no one

This is a really interesting way to flip the problem, love it.

I love your videos. Would you mind sharing which reverb and settings you use for the acoustic guitar? Also, where do you typically low cut?
