- I already talked about whether a PhD is worth it in a different video ( • Is a PhD Worth it? - I... ).
In this video I want to focus on 5 things that might indicate that a PhD might not be the right thing for you. I will also give you the priorities for the reasons at the end of the video.
More about me:
My name is Florian Leitner-Fischer and I'm a computer scientist, software engineer and software engineering manager based in Germany. I have experience both in academia as well as in industry managing a globally distributed software engineering team. In my videos I talk about programming, software development, software engineering and computer science as well as the occasional tech / gadget review.
I discovered your channel about two weeks ago and i really enjoy watching your videos! Just wanted to let you knwo that your work on this videos is highly appreciated! ;)
Thanks great to hear
Sad I have all the red flags :( . I just like working on interesting problems but with structure.
1. No self-motivation
2. Giving up too early
3. Not good at academic writings
4. To get a only PhD title
5. To get rich quick
Thanks for the summary
I did my master's about 2.5 years ago and at that time I was sure I didn't want to pursue a PhD, so I immediately joined the industry, now after working for about 2.5 years, I am thinking of doing a PhD, what do you think? Is this a good idea? I know I'm structured and I can motivate myself although sometimes I feel very down but in the end, I always try to finish it, as for writing I really don't enjoy it much but I do crave deep knowledge in something specific. Do you think I should go for it?
I started a phd I do not have the first 3 things you mentioned. But I do not have another choice. I have to do it. I am so scared that I fail.
Is a PhD for someone who is 40?
That depends on what your motivation is to pursue a PhD?
Your sound is very low
Yes sorry, upgraded my microphone since then.
is phd more harder than software engineering jobs??
It depends what software engineering job you compare it with but it is different in a lot of aspects, not necessarily harder
