It's amazing how people reduce Curly as "100% innocent" or "100% evil" when the truth is that the character is simply realistic and well written. His main problem is how his empathy is directed towards all the characters including his friend, Jimmy. He was the captain, he wanted everyone to be in a good mood and satisfy both parties, and in his mind the best way to do that was to ignore the bad and avoid confrontation at all costs. Yes, he was a bad captain for trying to give Jimmy a second chance (we all want to believe that horrible people, and especially those close to us, can change) and for not properly handling the Anya situation. But does that make him a bad person? Honestly, in my opinion, no. He's not good and he's not bad, but that doesn't mean he's responsible for Jimmy's actions, every decision he made was with a positive intention, and that's what led to his downfall.

Now she is being forced to take care of the man who not only hurt her, but tried to kill them all. She has every right to not want to help him and just let him die to the injuries he caused. Jimmy wanted to kill everyone on board because of his bad decisions. Anya would be nothing like her abuser.
