I'm really hoping to make the move to Portland very soon. I'm so tired of the never ending sunshine and brown scenery of Colorado. Just trying to find a job first but I'm super excited! Constant clouds and drizzle makes me happy.
Being from Salt Lake City, Portland feels like it really doesn't get winter to me. We have an army of plows with names like "Sled Zeppelin" that would make quick work of the worst Portland could dish out. What you guys call a "Snowpocalypse", we would call a normal day in April.
@Wandenkolken1 I've been bouncing back and forth since the '80s, and as a nomad, I winter in Las Vegas, summer in Portland, and spend my springs and falls in Ogden, Utah. As for cost of living, it seems like Portland is a little higher than Utah, but the cost of living is higher in Salt Lake than the Ogden area, so I assume they're probably close. Unlike Salt Lake, we have free irrigation water for our lawns and gardens in Ogden, which makes a huge difference in our budget. That being said, there are limits, and usually they shut it off in late summer and our lawns turn brown. Vegas is another story, and it seems like everything costs more there now.
We get 3 months of outdoors paradise, with countless options to camp, hike, bike and overland. But the other 9 months suck! Weeks without seeing the sun, incessant rain, fog so thick you can't see the house across the street, wind blasts that knock garbage cans and spread trash everywhere, but the worst is then we get rains around 32 degrees, which freeze your car, streets, and sidewalks, and we can't leave the house for days, get deliveries, and most flights get canceled. Don't be deceived by rain stats, it does not matter how many inches of precipitation we get, I wish someone would count hour many hours in a month it rains and let me tell you it’s 90% of the time.

Hey there, sorry to ask...did you move to portland from slc? What you think? I mean cost of living. If you can answer would be awnsome. Thanks again!
