Wisdom Teeth Surgery Experience || Why You Shouldn't Be Scared

  • This is my wisdom teeth surgery experience, first hand, just a few days after it happened so everything is still fresh in my mind. I had my surgery on February 16 at 10 am. I went under IV sedation and came home tired and loopy. There was zero pain during the surgery process, and after waking up I still didn't feel anything. My mouth and lips were numb for about 4-6 hours after getting home. I spent the whole day watching movies sleeping and drinking milkshakes. There is nothing to be afraid of when going into a wisdom teeth surgery. The only hard part is having to eat soft foods for a few days even a few weeks before getting back to a normal diet.

      @@josephcornelio6825 I'm the post above you from about two months ago. I'll post to offer some ease. Just to give you an idea, I was so scared of getting them out that I was having nightmares as early as a year before needing them out. Then I started having anxiety attacks. No joke. In the chair, my heart beat was 143 beats a minute. I was shaking all the equipment due to fear. I laugh at it now. For my results? It was the easiest time at the dentist I've ever had. Easier then a tooth filling. You'll be relieved that it's done.

      @@user-xr1ig7oq3j thank you, I probably won't have to get mine removed for a little while it just works me cause I have such a big fear of doctors and dentists in general, especially when it comes to being put under anesthesia, hearing peoples stories about it really does help though so I appreciate it, I'll have to try an think happy thoughts when I go in, and hopefully it will help.

    I just got all of my wisdom teeth out 12 hours ago, so my memory is very fresh. I can 100% agree with everything she is saying. I had a very overall similar experience to hers. To anyone who is getting their wisdom teeth out in the near future, don’t be nervous. I was really nervous going into it too but I can now say I really didn’t feel any pain during and I was sedated so I slept through most of it and the little bit I do remember is very hazy.

    To all who are scared of oral surgery, know that it will be okay! I have severe anxiety and was unable to sleep well for a week beforehand and experienced awful nausea.
    I have a balance disorder which causes me to feel dizzy/off balance/have visual disturbances from time to time which was why I was so worried. Feared the anesthesia and medicine...I was worried about waking up and wigging out on them but I felt so relaxed 😂
    I actually had a panic attack before they put me fully under cause the wall did look like it was sinking and I was pre dizzyish but not bad at all because the laughing gas helped me calm down a bit. I don't remember anything afterwards except waking up chilled out and had difficulty walking with weak legs.
    Just know you've got this!
    Fighting 💪❤

      I’m scared of the gas. I have a phobia of it... also bad heart palpitations that could be a problem even months after surgery. I have brain issues and trouble breathing while on my back so basically all the issues you shouldn’t have for anesthesia. I’m horrified. I’m used to feeling that way due to brain issues so I’m all good for now. Had a panic attack in the parking lot and a few anxiety attacks and I cried while they put me under because that was what I was afraid of but just so you know, the laughing gas does not hurt your throat it smells fruity and basically did nothing to me at all. I was still shaking with fear until they gave me the sleepy medicine which actually felt good because I finally got to stop having anxiety lol.

      @@keagank9414 omg our stories are so similar! Lol I was scared of going under too due to medical issues and I had a panic attack begin cause when they first administered anesthesia I saw the walls fall and move to the right simultaneously and then I don't remember anything except being pulled out of a vortex unable to gain my balance or consciousness to know where I was. She yanked me up immediately after the surgery (what it felt like) lol
      And yeah same! The laughing gas beforehand helped my anxiety so much I was like wow. This is so amazing...sad I can't feel this every day lol

      @@endlessreign 😂 the wall thing sounds scary, the laughing gas didn’t help me whatsoever or even do anything because my arms were already numb from anxiety I just remember him saying he’s gonna give me the injection and I was already crying and then a heavy sort of calm feeling came over my head and I leaned my head back and let it happen because it was calm and instantly stopped the shaking and crying. It was sorta slow like passing out in a movie, way less violent than when I passed out in the bathroom once 😂😂😂

    I was told today that I have to get my wisdom teeth out and I’ve never had any teeth removed let alone had any type of surgery or have been sedated. Not gonna lie, I am anxious about it all. The IV, needles make me queasy, just the thought of them sticking a needle in my veins makes me anxious. The whole going under makes me anxious. I was awake when I got my bottom right wisdom tooth removed. I had my first one removed last year 2021. It wasn’t that bad, but the smell and the loud noises did freak me out every now and then. No pain during surgery, only the needle for sedation was the only pain I had. After surgery was just so much anxiety on my part because I was paranoid about keeping everything clean and only eating ice cream, jello and yogurt. Now I need to get two more removed, so hopefully it goes well for me. It wasn’t as scary as I thought but it is annoying just sitting in a chair while they work on your teeth lol

    I just got my removed a couple of hours ago. I’m someone who experiences terrible dentist/doctor anxiety. Sometimes I physch myself out and ,y vision starts to be like pixelated and I freak out and turn pale. I was horrified that this was going to happen to me. I barely got any sleep and I cried in the car ride and even wjen I got in the operating chair. But the people there were so comforting and assured me everything was going to be okay. They gave me the IV which was little and so painless. DO NOT STRESS OVER THE IV!!!! It was like a milisecond of the feeling like you tapped the tip of a sharp pencil. Super easy. Then, they put a block in my mouth to keep my moith open and the last thing I can remember is getting out of the car at home.I couldn’t even remember how I left the building. At first I had some trouble walking but I just sat on the couch and put more gauze in. Take ibuprofen or tyleon tablets to help with the pain. It’s only been a few hours but all I feel is a little soreness. My lips and chin/cheeks feel swollen but they don’t look much different to me. Overall, this is absoulutely nothing to stress about. Easiest procedure ever. Your surgeons will take great care of you.

I'm mostly worried about my jaw, as idk what pressure it will be under, since they're gonna need to hammer it out because it hasn't grown really yet 😶 I'm just so nervous, but your video is really helping me with my nerves. I'm getting three teeth out in like ten hours. I'm so incredibly anxious about it. 90% of the anxiety is about the same thing you were scared of. Being knocked out, losing memory, the after math and all that. Plus I have agoraphobia, so that doesn't help. Haha. Big oof.

    • @jyn88
      @jyn88 Год назад +1

      Oh man me too! I have all kinds of anxieties and phobias. I need to take mine out desperately.

    • @imover9999
      @imover9999 Год назад

      @@jyn88 I hope you manage it without too much trouble. For me the hardest part was not eating for I think it was 12 hours prior. I was vegan at the time, so that was nearly impossible to go that long without eating and still having stable blood sugar. Luckily the iv they gave during extraction had glucose in it. Also I asked if they could give me a lower dose of the sedative as that was what I was most worried about. They did oblige. Plus the nurse guy even held my hand during it hahaha! Telling this story sounds silly and I sound like a big baby, but it was a nice gesture. Your mileage may vary of course, but just telling them your concerns could potentially help things go smoother. As far as the agoraphobia goes, yeah it wasn't totally easy, but when you have infected teeth that NEED to come out, you just get it done without worrying so much. After about 15 minutes of paperwork they took me back, about 5 minutes of being in the chair talking to me and getting things set up they had everything ready to go, gave me the injection of the sedative. I won't deny it was a bit uncomfortable for me - a person with a phobia of drugs - but they counted down from 10 to 1 and at around 6 or so I lost consciousness and the only memory of the surgery I had was pushing some plastic thing forward with my tongue. It was there to keep my mouth open or something. Then after that I just remember waking up and being a bit dazed, they led me out a back door and my ride was waiting there right outside and they helped me in and off home I went. By the time I got home I was able to get my shoes off myself and just relax. All in all it probably took an hour or two of my life. I have so many other things I've worried about since then, but it's a distant memory now. As it will be for you soon. If your teeth are infected you would know it cause you wouldn't be able to sleep and the pain is literally unbearable. Just get the antibiotics, and get em taken out. I need much more work done on my teeth as well at this point, but alas... Still have agoraphobia. I wish you the best and pardon the novel, I just hope something in here helps reassure you and quell some concern you may have.

    I'm getting all four of mine out in two days, and I'm so scared that I'm shaking atm. My worst fear is the IV sedation, and I'm thinking of asking the doctor if he could just numb my mouth, instead of the sedation. I've had teeth out before, but apparently getting wisdom teeth out is different.

      @RhodessaLyn  6 лет назад +13

      Endeavor don’t be scared. :). Trust me. The IV sedation is better. You don’t even know what’s happening because your knocked out and you don’t even remember when you fall asleep because it happens so fast and before you know it your awake. They numb your mouth too.

      Courtney Braziel, it was absolutely amazing! I didn't get an IV, just Valium and laughing gas. I was totally worked up for nothing. I'm usually a very anxious person. I know this sounds super odd, but I wouldn't be scared at all if I had to get it done again, I had that great of an experience! (During the procedure anyway- the pain afterwards sucked but that's normal) I guess it all depends on your doctor. I really hope your experience goes well!
