The aspect of this film that really resonated with me was the idea of going back to a place you identified as "home" only to feel as if what you thought was home no longer feels that way. It makes me very sad to feel that way sometimes, but life is all about change and learning to accept and adapt.

    • @hackapump
      @hackapump 2 года назад +12

I know, that’s good writing. But no, it’s not autobiographical at all. He went to great lengths at the time to stress that it was pure fiction, that he had a great relationship with both his parents - (and no personal experience from severe depression or heavy medication). They are both psychiatrists (therapists?) though, so he took some inspiration from their expertise.

When I commented on this song, 4 years ago I had not yet heard of Terence McKenna. I'd done plenty of 🍄 tho. There's something so affirming in having another person say the things you've figured out for yourself. But its like, extra validating when it's someone so well respected, like Terence. ☺
Its also really interesting to be drawn back to a comment i made so long ago on a song that was so important to me, that's got such an impassioned message in it.. ..... Your timing is IMPECCABLE. Because I'm at another point in my personal journey that I needed to hear this song and read my own words. That's so wild when that happens and I absolutely LOVE IT.

    Invictus
    BY WILLIAM ERNEST HENLEY
Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
    For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
    Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.
It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll,
I am the master of my fate,
I am the captain of my soul.
