  • Curbless showers are awesome 😊 And I've installed quite a few of them. One important tip you implement in your own bathroom renovation is to separate the thinset layer from the shower to the outside floor 👍 For more help with bathroom remodeling, enroll in one of my courses 👇👇

I have this problem and and it's been a mystery even to the installer and I just spent hours on google and solved the mystery and your video explains it the best I will be showing it to the installer when they come today. The kerdi membrane only extends 8inches outside the shower and no sealant at dry/wet transition. Now I have a question: I understand how this all happens but are you telling me doing the membrane for the whole bathroom is really to prevent water damage to walls and subfloor and so the water is now going to freely float around everywhere? Am i understanding it right and how is this acceptable I guess this is just how it is but to basically have a river underneath and all the mold that can grow, scary. Thank you for your video!!

I am doing the same that apply silicon under the tile near the dry/wet transition. I just worry the tile quality and the caterpillar effect happens inside the tile. Beause I saw a mosaic tile in hoxx dexxt saying it only absorb 5% water.

Steve if you don’t mind clarifying … You apply silicone where wet meets dry area along the tile bottom, but how do you grout over it? Cant believe that grout would stick over silicon. Nothing does. Or am I missing something. Thanks in advance.

Silicon would be my last choice for sealant for the reason you bring up. A poly sealant like Wedi or go board sealant is better. It’s only added at the thinset layer, so the grout will have the tile edging to bond 👍
