Exellent explanation Mark. I am doing sport shooting and hunting, and I am in South Africa that has one of the worst crime rates in the world. We also have one of the harshest Firearms Control laws in the world, making it almost impossible to LEGALLY own a firearm. Google the act, “Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000” when you have the time. The joke of it all is that 90% of murders committed in South Africa is people killed with “SHARP OBJECTS” that includes knives and screwdrivers. No one is shouting for knives and screwdrivers to be banned!

    -when necessity requires self-sufficiency.

At least one sharp knife could be found in 99.9% of kitchens around the world. Any child intelligent enough to open a drawer or tall enough to reach a counter top has access to them. Being taught how to use a tool, to respect it, and what it is capable of seems to be a fading lesson in life. To me it has always boiled down to 'Respect', but for some people it's just too hard of a concept to follow, so they make the lazy/easy excuse of blaming the inanimate object and create a fear of it rather than respect.
Fear is not a tool, yet the ignorant wield it as such.

Thank you Mark for another really profound and relevant discussion. Here in The States, our 2nd Amendment to the US Constitution (the highest law of our land) was instilled so that citizens could form a militia to defend our society against a coup or a runaway government. But to be fair, I have occasionally really attempted to try to see any logic in the anti-gun folks and have come to the conclusion that I feel that their logic is shallow. They need to go deeper into asking "If this happens, then that is the result". But there are many examples of gun confiscation worldwide that have failed to preserve lives and if the antigun folks would just look fairly at those facts then I believe that they could see the merits of legal gun ownership. I personally own my guns as a hobby and find great joy that the hobby brings. I'm over 50 and have never had to draw a gun for defense and I hope I never do,

One of the main issues with firearms is the stigmatism towards them. Movies and shows always show them in the hands of cops, soldiers, or a bad guy. Meanwhile the media shows them in the same portrayal. This is the huge obstacle getting people to go to the shooting range once with a family member or friend. After the first trigger magazine, you learn it's not all that scary and it's easy to be controlled with a gun. These incidents that happen in public places are all because of the person's mental state, not the firearm itself.

We let them ban felonies and overnight 100,000 felonies magically appeared .. stop co-signing to this law abiding legal gun owner shit... This is a really good video. I'm commenting in part to boost interaction and make your video more likely to be spread, but also from the perspective on an American enthusiast. The momentum certainly seems to be swinging in the other direction from gun control. It seems more and more people are coming to the realization that the world is an inherently dangerous place, and that your safety is your own responsibility. It seems that, even with the most anti-gun president in the Oval Office, even with the agencies being weaponized against gun owners, they aren't gaining traction. In fact, these past two years have restored gun rights to more people than any two years I can remember.
I would like to see more videos like this, a calm, rational discussion where we can speak without judgment and actually exchange ideas and information. Disagreement is a good thing, so long as the discussions it spawns are rational and calm. It exposes more information to someone on the fence and gives them a better idea of the truth.

    Mark,
Well said and presented I am lucky enough to only live 9 miles from Bisley ranges and one of the greatest achievements I have done is hit a target at on the 600 yard range with 65 year old nagant. The Club that I shoot with is very friendly and knowledgeable I don't own any of my own guns and shoot club guns because I don't have anywhere at home that I deem safe enough to store them that is being responsible in my eyes. the Big problem in the Uk is that although we have some of the strictest fire arms laws in the world we have very high fire arms related crime levels, but even higher knife crime levels, do we ban them as well? people intent on injuring others will alwasy find a way. After Dunblane (which was horrific) and the total ban on hand guns, gun crime has increased not decreased at least the licensed and resposible ownership of fire arms can be policed and regularly is at gun clubs throughout the UK. A true story, one day on the century range at Bisley the club members where all asked to pack up and leave by the police, the reason was one of their own officers had mislaid a Glock 17 with ammunition on the range a week or so earlier. Even if a FAC holder had collected and made safe and returned the pistol they would have been prosecuted so it was probarly left there and to this day I do not know if it was recovered.

Sure you could get the government to come in and do the job, but we all know bureaucracy in this country will hinder pest control down to a crawl and the damage - usually long term, will get worse before they deal with it, after which, they'll bugger off and not maintain the problems until it's a matter of urgency yet again.

Commenting for the rhythm. Good vid as always. There is another Aussie who posted a vid about 3 to 4 years ago on all the stats in Oz...he went into it quite in depth and his conclusion. iirc, was that crime was reduced by increased policing not by the buyback/regulation. Also the South African Police commissioned a report by the Graduate School of business in Johannesburg which came to the same conclusion.

Well said mark, I am sick to death of the negative perception of firearms. I am a recreational shooter who participates in fortnight shoots at the local gun club and it’s no different of a environment than a football or cricket club. The big thing that is not published in the media is the statistics of how many gun crimes in Australia are committed by licensed and registered firearm owners.

Mark, could you please come to the States and teach others how to present the message that you just gave. That was a very straightforward, no-nonsense, level-headed way of presenting our side of the story. No threats, cussing, yelling, or anything else. It is just that simple, and at this point, that is what the world needs.
I am afraid that most gun owners especially with the more exotic guns are more passionate than the average gun owner over here. They tend to go off track to quickly when discussing guns with anti-gunners. I, like you, try to calmly tell the story of those of us that enjoys a hobby or sport that does involve a gun. I tell them taking away my sport would be very much like taking away bats for baseball or cars for racing.
I truly enjoy watching your videos and I think I get as excited as you and Sam do. I would really like to get started in ELR, but funds are short at this time. When that changes soon, I am going to jump in with a starter setup. I will be coming to your store to get some of the accessories.
Keep all your videos coming. I may be your biggest fan. I hope that you see this and will let me know if I can share you video?

    I couldn't agree more Mark.
I get absolutaly frustrated having to defend my sport and firearm ownership to people who have no idea what we do. I have spent my whole life around firearms and on rifle ranges. Firearm ownership has enriched my life and provided myself and family with opportunities and expieriences that would have been missed if not for my involvement in the shooting sports. My earliest memories are going bush at age four with my Father and Grandfather who were professional pest control shooters back in the 1960's, 70's and 80's. My Grandfather was a small arms instructor in the Australian Army during WW2 and a keen big bore target rifle competitor. He took me to a small bore rifle club when I was 8 (48 years ago) and I've been shooting targets ever since in multiple diciplines at all levels including world championships. I was taught to respect firearms and what they can do.
I've grown to appreciate the fine mechanical workmanship and design that has gone into many antique firearms and also marvel at the skill of my gunsmith when he does a custom build for me.
I never refer to my rifles as weapons. I honestly think of them as being sporting equipment for my chosen sport.
I have an 18yo son who shares my passion for target shooting. Together we have travelled far and wide including internationaly to compete. We have met and become friends with many incredible like minded people during our travels. They have all had a positive influence on our lives.
Over the last six years, I've been more interested in long range and 50 BMG target shooting. I'm often asked by Non shooters, "Why 50 BMG and long range and not Rimfire bench rest?" I explain that it's the next challenge for me. I've shot many rifle disciplines over many years and this has reinvigorated my passion for the sport. Handloading precision target ammo for the 50 BMG and aspiring to shoot a 3 inch group in the X ring at a 1000 yards while learning to deal with the recoil has been a real challenge.(Not there yet). As competitors, we strive to push the boundries. To explain my thinking, I would ask a golfer, " Why Golf and not Mini golf ?" or a racing car driver, " Why Formula 1 and not Go Karts ?"
Thanks for taking the time to post and good luck dealing with the W.A Dictatorship.

My heart breaks for you and the firearms community in Australia. Over the last few years I have to admit I was surprised and horrified by what governments and especially the Australian government was willing to do to their citizens. The bottom line is that government will always seek to control and subjugate. Even though their motives may be different, once government and media synchronize their messages the vast majority of the people will blindly accept whatever narrative they are given. Fortunately for the USA, where we are not immune to these attacks either, we at least have our founding documents which protect our rights as long as our Judicial Branch of government does not abdicate their responsibilities. If things do go badly for you and the community there in Australia, I wholeheartedly invite you all to come to the USA and join us in the defense of Liberty. At least here there is a better chance of avoiding tyranny thanks in no small part to the nations founding documents and traditions. You all would be most welcome!

Thanks Mark for expressing your views in a responsible and easy to understand way. As an Anerican gun owner I agree with your goal though I don’t agree with all of your reasoning but that’s ok. Here in the US there is an unhealthy culture that makes a lot of people think that guns are solutions to their problems. I fear that in the US we will eventually loose all of our gun rights because we won’t do the responsible thing and keep guns out of the hands of unwell people.

28 plus years in law enforcement myself (police officer) and it has been my experience that yes a firearm can be used as a weapon, but so can your fist, your head, foot, bat, stick, knife, glass jar, table, dish........ you get my point. Crimes with firearms get the most attention because it's a political talking point. The calls for service where someone is assaulted or battered occur more often with objects other than firearms but if look at the news media you would not think so and only believe that all firearms are the boogie man. This is simply NOT TRUE!!! This has been my experience for the last 28 plus years as a police officer in Miami, Florida....

We have become a society of common sense being not so common. Every point made Mark, has it's merits. Even when folks are faced with a situation, (victim of a crime), they still fall short of understanding how our species truly works. It would not matter, the weapon of choice, violence has it's own formula, the results will all be near the same. Any perspective is merely a mindset of convenience in and for a shadow of security. Once the hand of authoritarianism through propaganda and fear makes it's way in, one may find how a movie such as, "Soylent Green", had some depth in the forward control of a population at large.
Another fine attempt Mark, at trying to set some of the record on a path of destruction, straight. I wish I could say all I've seen who own a firearm, know the safety of that. I do not. I believe the firearm industry as a whole, safe, and our time, limited. Most folks fall under the category of sheep and thus prefer to be herded. Not until the majority of freedoms be taken away will they understand what has been lost, never to return.
