  • At 2:50PM Monday afternoon, Lehigh County 9-1-1 transmitted a rescue box for the 300 block of 14th Street in the Borough of Catasauqua sending Rescue 2 and Engine 211.
Once on scene, the fire officer reported a car into a tree with heavy entrapment.
One person was in the car when it slid sideways into a tree heavily pinning the male in the car. With all the tools such as the Jaws of Life in-service and the complexity of the rescue, an additional rescue company from Whitehall was special-called.
Firefighters worked for almost an hour to free the driver. Paramedics worked on the patient as the firefighters cut the car apart piece by piece. The drivers legs were pinned under the dashboard.

I have been a firefighter for almost 8 years and im telling you one thing it is amazing how being apart of a brotherhood / sisterhood that cares about one another so much. I put my life in their hands every call we go on and they put their life in mine. But just being able to help someone either make it out of a fire or car crash or something as simple as calming someone down is the best feeling. Helping my community is why i do what i do and i love helping people. I am a volunteer and i wouldn't change a thing.

Thank you first responders for all that you do. From someone whose been in a car wreck few years back sadly no one bothered to call 911 for whatever reason but the person who hit us started yelling at my hubby and of course i threatened to hurt the person. now have to deal with spinal injuries for life cause of it. but thank you for all you do and keep us safe even during wildfires you are the frontline workers. I been thinking of going back to trying to do CERT for my local fire dept. although tough to come upon these wrecks its not a job for the weak hearted for sure. thank you.

those jaws of life are incredible cutting through that ultra high strength steel like it is butter. Folks don't realize how strong these uni-body cars are. The requirement for a good rating in the pole test was raised substantially in 2012, every vehicle made after 2012 is a thousand times safer in this type of accident, also the small offset test was implemented in 2012 by the IIHS and pretty much every car made after 2015 has aced that test.

These guys do such great work day in and day out. But if I had to point something out it would be two things. First, they spent a lot of time on a door that was about as far from the extraction as they could get. Two, on that door two guy stood there one using a pair of jaws and the other just standing there holding a pair. I hope that me saying that doesn't sound like a criticism but it did bug me a bit.

I believe one pair is cutters and the other is to pry apart.

I was married to a firefighter captain and scenes like these are why some of them drink.
