I always learn from you, Stephanie. I had never heard of mixing the baking soda and vinegar together and then putting it into the finished batter. I had always just incorporated those ingredients separately within the batter. And your frosting is a new method for me, too. I've always used butter, so I'm really looking forward to trying cream cheese frosting with whipped cream! Thank you for a great recipe for a beautiful cake.

I baked this cake and two more sheet cakes for a coffee morning to raise funds for Milford Hospice care centre in Limerick Ireland. It was a great success and we raised lots of money, thanks to your recipes and advice, everyone enjoyed the cakes.
I've gone through the comments and see only yours that actually made this recipe besides me. I did the cake flour substitute with the cornstarch like Stephanie suggested and I followed her steps exactly. Trying to figure out what I did wrong as the batter and the cake were so heavy. Did you follow the measurements and steps exactly?

These are my thoughts. I used a different cream cheese frosting but I think it was very good. Just standard, cream cheese, butter, only one cup of powdered sugar, vanilla and a tablespoon of buttermilk because why not. I baked my cake and it took my oven 45 minutes. I was frantic but it was perfect. The cake is like bakery cake and I'm positive it's the flour. I used a dutched chocolate. It's amazing. I don't know that I've ever made anything that great. Thanks a million.

Very nice recipe, with detailed explanation, perfect for a Valentine’s Day. I have tried making Red Velvet cake with normal red liquid colours but it didn’t come out that bright red, it is best to use liquid Gel colour of good quality as one would be going through lots of work to make this cake. I recently bought Beet root powder, wonder that will give nice bright red colour in the cake? It did to my Red Velvet Latte.😍

I am a Brit and never usually watch cooking or cooks from the US. However I have become addicted to watching you. You give clear instructions for us Brits and even use our digestives in your cheesecakes… I love to cook myself and would even like to make videos like you, but wouldn’t be confident enough. Thank you for your recipes. One question though, can I reduce the sugar in this red velvet tray bake as it’s such a lot…. Also Stephanie we cannot get cake flour in the UK. But I think I can make my own by taking out some of the flour and adding cornflour instead?
To make one cup cake flour, take one cup all purpose flour, remove 2 tablespoons and replace with 2 tablespoons cornstarch (corn flour). I’ve never tried reducing the sugar but I think you could.
Y'now, it's funny because I originally stumbled onto your channel when I got curious and looked up red velvet cake. We've come full circle now. 😛 Haven't tried making it myself yet, but the supermarket next door used to sell it. It was good! They no longer do though, so one day I'll have to give it a shot. Maybe for my boyfriend or when by birthday comes around.
