Wow, Allison. I find myself in awe over and over again as I watch these videos of you telling your story. I didn't find your channel until your first video about this saga but it peaked my interest because I myself have traveled to Nicaragua and spent time there. I also have an autoimmune condition - rheumatoid arthritis - that is triggered by stress and while RA certainly isn't the same as UC, I can relate in many ways. I am so sorry you and your family went through this and I hope you will keep in mind that many who comment will not understand your decision to move to Nicaragua or how you had to make split second decisions during a deeply traumatic event. Hindsight is 20/20 as they say and you did the very best you could during a frightening and confusing time. Just want you to know that I appreciate you sharing your story and hope that you and your family have found some peace on the other side of this.

Our son has UC, it was a huge surprise when he started, well, bleeding, he was 18, lots of doctors for 2 years, and different meds, luckily he has been In remission for 3 years, much love and prayers, it doesn’t shock me that given your situation you got so sick. Im literally in tears listening. Im in awe of your strength Allison i don't know how you did it 💗🤗 my hubby has crohns and had pain from an absess ready to rupture. Hes been doing good on humira 4 yrs now. Alliskn i hope you got some counselling what ypu went thru is so traumatic ((hugs)) One thing about going off meds with crohns i was told is you can be asymptomatic and damage is occiring despite no pain. Its even more crucial to get ultrasounds and colonoscopies to make sure youre not flaring.
I'm so sorry that you went through all of this. It's even more unimaginable that you went through this while having a UC flare. I have stage 4 colon cancer and developed a type of colitis due to my weakened immume system and was so weak I couldn't walk and felt my body shutting down, so I have a bit of an idea what you were going through. You are incredibly strong!
I’m just at the part where you had the thought for the first time “do we really want to stay here after he gets out”, no judgement here but it surprised me you had even considered staying after the initial arrest.
I totally understand why you would say that. But in the moment it was our home. We had animals as well. And we didn't have a home in Canada. It was a lot to wrap my head around while also going through trauma. But I'm glad we made the decision we did.

I came across part one somewhere, had to sub to see what happend and OMG. I have Crohn's and have had flares in the worst situations (my Costa Rican honeymoon for one). What you went through, WOW you have so much strength! I was septic before I had to have surgery and I know that very specific, ungodly fire of hell pain. Adding on your stress with your husband and the terror that holds, all while actively dying (let's call it what it is, feels like death is a better outcome at times), truly you're a superhero. I'm on the edge ofy seat awaiting the rest of the story!!
Wow! Your ordeal was soooo traumatic! Just listening to all of it I find myself holding my breath and my blood pressure rising. One of the most difficult things to deal with is dishonest, scammy people.
As someone with multiple autoimmune disorders including pancreatitis, my heart goes out to you. It is so difficult sometimes for others who have never experienced the pain and symptoms involved, to truly understand. Add to it that it is chronic. I am on Humira, and seeing the possible side effects including lymphoma, and that it is an immunosuppressive which makes you vulnerable to COVID, and other things, makes me want to go off of it also. Stress is not our friend. My son went through a similar legal situation and my flare ups were debilitating. As a "chronic illness sister" I totally understand and my heart is breaking hearing what you went through.
So sorry, you went through all that pain. I know exactly how that feels. When you have a flare up of colitis or crohns it’s unbearable. I got an allergic reaction to remicade after the 10th time, ileostoy, switched to Humira for a few years reversed ileostomy. When it stopped working another ileostomy and now on Entyio every month, reversed ileostomy, the sutures opened on the third day after the operation. I heard and felt it, it but none of the doctors believed me. Got discharged 4 days after they opened and was rushed back in an ambulance on the same day with sepsis and high fever. Emergency operation. Many additional problems after that. Still in pain every time I eat but much better than a flare up. Entyvio working.
There is so much to your story, and i'm sad I have caught up on your videos, your video from eleven days ago was pushed to me by RUclips. As a U.S. citizen living in Costa Rica I understand the foreign part of it, not to the degree of Nicaragua by any means. But also, as someone who has autoimmune inflammatory arthritis and had to decide to go on methotrexate and potentially in the future have to go on biologics, which I am resisting as much as possible out of fear. I just feel for you, I understand flares. I understand autoimmune disease. The disease I have is very often correlated with colitis and Crohn's disease. I understand and can relate with your anger at the original corrupt attorneys that led to nearly your death and the extended suffering of your husband. As well as forcing you to leave what you thought was your new home country. ❤😢❤
Hello! Does her story give you pause as to your living situation? Meaning, do you ever have worries that you could get into some type of situation whether it be like this or lesser than? I know I looked back into her channel and she had videos where they were deciding on Nicaragua or Costa Rica as to which to move to. We've visited Costa Rica and it is absolutely beautiful but I will say I was so happy when it was time to come home. Take care and enjoy! ❤
@sweethomealamanda Unfortunately, her situation does not give me pause at all, and I feel like they made the wrong decision, but that's my personal opinion. I did an enormous amount of research. My husband from the minute I met him said we were retiring to Central or South America. He initially brought up Mexico, which is technically still North America, but I vetoed that. Then he brought up Puerto Rico, a US territory, I vetoed that. Next up was Ecuador, South America, vetoed that. Finally, he brought up Costa Rica. We visited, we loved it and decided. Then he started thinking maybe Nicaragua because it was much less expensive, and I vetoed Nicaragua fast. I had just done an enormous amount of research on all the locations and decided this was the right country for us. We've been here for over 10 years, and we've had an absolutely wonderful time. We know nobody who's had an experience like theirs, but the laws are different in Costa Rica, and I can't see anything like that happening here. We lived in Costa Rica during the Nicaraguan uprising and the human rights violations that drove many Nicaraguans to seek asylum in Costa Rica. That reassured me my decision was correct.
@sweethomealamanda I'm visiting Costa Rica my question would be, did you do the typical gringo thing and go to all the tourist locations?Because any of those places would drive me insane wanting to go home immediately. You have to experience the real CR, the ticos and the hidden beauty away from tourists. Gringo enclaves are not CR, living amongst gringos is not experiencing CR.
Im an Expat in Costa Rica as well! Grateful that I have a more simplified health care regiment but I agree with you I can't imagine anything like this happening where we are.
I'm following just from the other day... Just a thought to share for what it's worth. My husband had similar Chrohn's. Years of pain and treatments that left him in bed. He started carnivore in 2018, and within weeks he was better. It's now a thing of the past. Remarkable I also gave up carbs to support him and I've lost all joint pain, and many other problems. Hard but helpful

Getting the feeling you are may not be completely out from under this yet, although i assume you are close to it if not JUST out of it-your carefulness in what you share just shows your fear, and that fear just shows how totally helpless and vulnerable you felt. So glad you guys are together and safe.
The thing I still can't wrap my head around is why you all had to pay thousands of dollars to someone who CAUSED the accident! It bothers me so much when laws make no damned sense whatsoever. Could you all fight even paying the family at all? What if you had no money? What do citizens of the country do when they get into car accidents? The party at no fault should never have to pay the person who is at fault. Lots of people claim that the US has a backward system, but this is on a whole hot-mess level!
It's a complicated answer, and one I might address once I get through the story. There are no legal issues, but many people who lived there warned me not to share, not to go to the media etc.

So, she's not really making the nature of the accident clear - about what happened - or who was at fault, even in all the other previous parts. Whose fault was it? I do remember her saying that the person who died was drunk driving while on a bike or scooter so had fault been determined at any point (even without a judge) or was the husband strictly in jail because someone died, whether it was his fault or not? Maybe we're not far along enough in the story? I wouldn't ask that if this happened in America, obviously. And this mediation situation that is continually taking place with the deceased man's "family", is this the "law" or policy in Nicaragua regarding vehicular accidents? I wouldn't think it would be if it had been determined to NOT be the husband's fault (or was it)? Because if all this is happening and it was determined early on that the husband was NOT at fault, well that would be awful and I would then question why they'd be willing to negotiate or HAVE TO BE negotiating with the deceased's family for some monetary payout (isn't that an admission of guilt?) and why was the husband kept in jail? And if it WAS the husband's fault, well then I would have to say that all this is just what happens in Nicaragua and they have to accept it since he caused an accident that resulted in a death...does anyone understand what I am trying to say? Somehow, I can't believe that this is all about getting a payoff for the family agreed upon whether it was his fault or not and once that is done, they would just let him out...but this IS a third world country so anything is possible. But if fault HASN'T been determined, then who will ultimately decide that without a judge? Maybe someone in the comments can enlighten me to something I missed in the story. She never says she believes he should be let go because there is no doubt that he wasn't at fault. This is never even mentioned so, to me, it's the elephant in the room and is the deciding factor, at least for me, how I feel about this whole awful - albeit, very interesting - story. That's what throwing me off. And Allison, if you read this, so sorry for the nightmare. I've considered leaving America at different points but it's these very situations that stop me!
I read the law, it looks like no matter who is at fault, if someone is seriously injured or dies, the other party goes to jail, EVEN IF that person is not at fault. Seems incredibly shady to me. I do believe she eluded to the fact her husband was turning left (which would mean he did turn in front of him), but that the motorcyclist was speeding, under the influence, and I am fairly sure she said their lights were not on (motorcyclists). I am honestly not sure how fault is even determined. It doesn't seem fair that if a driver really wasn't at fault, they go to jail and you have to pay the family of the deceased off.

As a U.S. citizen living in Costa Rica I understand the foreign part of it, not to the degree of Nicaragua by any means.
But also, as someone who has autoimmune inflammatory arthritis and had to decide to go on methotrexate and potentially in the future have to go on biologics, which I am resisting as much as possible out of fear.
I just feel for you, I understand flares. I understand autoimmune disease. The disease I have is very often correlated with colitis and Crohn's disease.
I understand and can relate with your anger at the original corrupt attorneys that led to nearly your death and the extended suffering of your husband. As well as forcing you to leave what you thought was your new home country. ❤😢❤

Hello! Does her story give you pause as to your living situation? Meaning, do you ever have worries that you could get into some type of situation whether it be like this or lesser than? I know I looked back into her channel and she had videos where they were deciding on Nicaragua or Costa Rica as to which to move to. We've visited Costa Rica and it is absolutely beautiful but I will say I was so happy when it was time to come home.

@sweethomealamanda Unfortunately, her situation does not give me pause at all, and I feel like they made the wrong decision, but that's my personal opinion. I did an enormous amount of research. My husband from the minute I met him said we were retiring to Central or South America. He initially brought up Mexico, which is technically still North America, but I vetoed that. Then he brought up Puerto Rico, a US territory, I vetoed that. Next up was Ecuador, South America, vetoed that. Finally, he brought up Costa Rica. We visited, we loved it and decided. Then he started thinking maybe Nicaragua because it was much less expensive, and I vetoed Nicaragua fast. I had just done an enormous amount of research on all the locations and decided this was the right country for us. We've been here for over 10 years, and we've had an absolutely wonderful time. We know nobody who's had an experience like theirs, but the laws are different in Costa Rica, and I can't see anything like that happening here.
We lived in Costa Rica during the Nicaraguan uprising and the human rights violations that drove many Nicaraguans to seek asylum in Costa Rica. That reassured me my decision was correct.
@sweethomealamanda I'm visiting Costa Rica my question would be, did you do the typical gringo thing and go to all the tourist locations?Because any of those places would drive me insane wanting to go home immediately.
You have to experience the real CR, the ticos and the hidden beauty away from tourists.

Im an Expat in Costa Rica as well! Grateful that I have a more simplified health care regiment but I agree with you I can't imagine anything like this happening where we are.

He started carnivore in 2018, and within weeks he was better. It's now a thing of the past.

How terrible that you had to be in hospital and all this pain while the emotional and mental drain must have been unreal. Hanging on every word! So maddening that "Mark" and his people completely tried to exploit your vulnerability for their own gain, and how it made this horrible circumstance 10 x worse. Feeling for you.

The thing I still can't wrap my head around is why you all had to pay thousands of dollars to someone who CAUSED the accident! It bothers me so much when laws make no damned sense whatsoever. Could you all fight even paying the family at all? What if you had no money? What do citizens of the country do when they get into car accidents? The party at no fault should never have to pay the person who is at fault.
Lots of people claim that the US has a backward system, but this is on a whole hot-mess level!

They are corrupt, duh! 😂 Corrupt government and law enforcement can find you anywhere just like the carte, mafia, gangs, etc!
It's a complicated answer, and one I might address once I get through the story. There are no legal issues, but many people who lived there warned me not to share, not to go to the media etc.
you never know who knows who, even in different countries. They can make up charges or send someone to "find you"

So, she's not really making the nature of the accident clear - about what happened - or who was at fault, even in all the other previous parts. Whose fault was it? I do remember her saying that the person who died was drunk driving while on a bike or scooter so had fault been determined at any point (even without a judge) or was the husband strictly in jail because someone died, whether it was his fault or not? Maybe we're not far along enough in the story? I wouldn't ask that if this happened in America, obviously. And this mediation situation that is continually taking place with the deceased man's "family", is this the "law" or policy in Nicaragua regarding vehicular accidents? I wouldn't think it would be if it had been determined to NOT be the husband's fault (or was it)? Because if all this is happening and it was determined early on that the husband was NOT at fault, well that would be awful and I would then question why they'd be willing to negotiate or HAVE TO BE negotiating with the deceased's family for some monetary payout (isn't that an admission of guilt?) and why was the husband kept in jail? And if it WAS the husband's fault, well then I would have to say that all this is just what happens in Nicaragua and they have to accept it since he caused an accident that resulted in a death...does anyone understand what I am trying to say? Somehow, I can't believe that this is all about getting a payoff for the family agreed upon whether it was his fault or not and once that is done, they would just let him out...but this IS a third world country so anything is possible. But if fault HASN'T been determined, then who will ultimately decide that without a judge? Maybe someone in the comments can enlighten me to something I missed in the story. She never says she believes he should be let go because there is no doubt that he wasn't at fault. This is never even mentioned so, to me, it's the elephant in the room and is the deciding factor, at least for me, how I feel about this whole awful - albeit, very interesting - story. That's what throwing me off. And Allison, if you read this, so sorry for the nightmare. I've considered leaving America at different points but it's these very situations that stop me!
I read the law, it looks like no matter who is at fault, if someone is seriously injured or dies, the other party goes to jail, EVEN IF that person is not at fault. Seems incredibly shady to me. I do believe she eluded to the fact her husband was turning left (which would mean he did turn in front of him), but that the motorcyclist was speeding, under the influence, and I am fairly sure she said their lights were not on (motorcyclists). I am honestly not sure how fault is even determined. It doesn't seem fair that if a driver really wasn't at fault, they go to jail and you have to pay the family of the deceased off.
