    Many thanks, your explanation of 'chord points' has clarified what I described as 'rests' in a song, as I transitioned from playing just melody to playing by chord progressions. The use of primary chords, and adding a different chord that has the same melody note will help me a lot. You have the gift of teaching

    Good Day My Mentor
    When I am playing praises in Church please how can I know if I am in major scales or minor scales because in our Church the praise leader he or she always use our dialect that is the are using our language to sing the praise for the old people who can not speak English to understand what the are singing 🎶.
    Please I want you to guide me on this challenge and secondly I want to be improve in this area very well why because I can only play English songs on the semitone keyboard 🎹 as a new beginner.
    Thank you for your concern towards my request why I am waiting to received your reply sir.
    God bless you my Mentor

    • @PianoTutorialsWithChrisEbute
      @PianoTutorialsWithChrisEbute  2 года назад

      Not sure I understand the question but first, the major scales comprises of all the diatonic notes in the key you are playing, the minor scale (natural minor scale) is the same as the major scale but starting from the sixth degree of the major scale.
      You really don't have any business with the dialect the song is played, your focus should be how to accompany the melody with your keyboard.
      Not sure what you mean by semitone keyboard

    • @PianoTutorialsWithChrisEbute

      Always choose the primary chords(major chords) first, the secondary chords can be used as alternatives. So if the melody is on F, then as a beginner, F major chord is the best option.

    • @PianoTutorialsWithChrisEbute
      @PianoTutorialsWithChrisEbute  2 года назад +1

      Am using the number system. So you give numbers to the degrees of a major scale. For instance in the key of C, the first note is C, so in building your chord C will be 1, the D is 2, then E is 3 etc Watch the video below for more explanation.

    When you have a progression, you can have a melody note that is in the formation of two different notes. How do we choose the right note for the song?
    For example (In the Key of C) : The key of C is formed by C, E and G. The key of G is formed by G, B and D. We have G as the melody that is in the two keys. How do we choose the right Key?

    • @PianoTutorialsWithChrisEbute
      @PianoTutorialsWithChrisEbute  2 года назад +1

      First, it's not called keys but chords. So in the key of C when the melody is on G the chord most likely suitable is the one chord which is the C chord. Note that it must not always be C. It depends on the song also, sometimes you can us G. At the end of the day your ear should guide you as to the best chord to use

  • @inspirationmusic6412
    @inspirationmusic6412 2 года назад

    I still believe the best way to find a chord progression is to follow the bassline movement and form the chords from that. Following the melody can be tricky. 1. Find the key 2. Follow the baselines using the number system.

    • @PianoTutorialsWithChrisEbute
      @PianoTutorialsWithChrisEbute  2 года назад

      You mixed up the point. If there is a baseline movement somewhere then you don't need this video because the progression is already known. Am talking about a situation where a singer start singing and no body has figured out the progression yet, at this point you don't have any bass line movement anywhere to follow. It is after you have discovered the chord progression before another instrumentalist in the band can follow your bass line movement. I hope you understand the difference. This video is also for beginners who are finding it difficult to determine chord progression of songs on Thier own. If you are not a beginner then you might not need this video because immediately you hear a singer you should be able to know the progression without thinking especially for simpler songs.

      Knowing alot of chords is not enough. How do you apply chords without knowing the melody. You can only do that successfully when you are told the particular chords to use. The person that tell you the correct chords is the person that knows the melody.

    • @emmanuelmbora3048

      @@PianoTutorialsWithChrisEbute okay thank you very much sir but I have a question those pianists who can accompany a song they've never heard before on the spot while the singer is singing it do they use the melody or they use rising and falling and is rising and falling liked to melody

    • @PianoTutorialsWithChrisEbute
      @PianoTutorialsWithChrisEbute  2 года назад +1

      @@emmanuelmbora3048 ok I now know what you are saying. Music is a language that uses melodies and harmonies. So when a person plays the piano long enough, a time will come when you can accurately predict the chord progressions of a song even without knowing the melody. It's about familiarity with musical sounds. Such a person is still using the melody but in an unconscious state. It's similar to a child who knows how to speak the mother tongue but cannot explain how he learned it.
