Age has nothing to do with it. His voice is spectacular. At age 76 he can out sing anyone of the other contestants. All you have to do is look at all the records he has sold world wide. Sounds like all the naysayers have been hiding under a rock if they haven't seen his popularity all over the world. All those fans can't be wrong.
Any number of people can be wrong - hype can do anything. His voice is old and worn out and it shows. But it works with this song, because it's sung from the point of view of an old man, and the song is tastefully and skilfully written, dignified and touching. Hence why it's my second favourite from this year, after Macedonia.
He's quite literally one the most talented singers of the last hundred years. He had nothing to prove in Eurovision and still gave it his all. Seeing this talented crooner up on stage in a pop music competition is impressive, regardless of how he placed. He didn't use flashy gimmicks or major voice effects. He simply got up there and did what he's done for the last 60+ years. They can't all be ABBA and when they're not, it's refreshing to see performers stick to their roots and what made them great.
I think despite the position, this is one of the best songs we've ever sent to Eurovision! Much better than Lucie, Molly and all the other recent fan favourites! No disrespect to them, they both had good entries but this is a beautiful song with a legendary singer

He is still one of the greatest male vocalists of all time. This man is one of finest treasures produced by Britain. All Brits should be proud.
IF YOU LOVE SOMEONE, FOLLOW YOUR HEART !!! BECAUSE LOVE COMES ONCE IF YOU' RE LUCKY ENOUGH . . . So much under rated participation . . . PERFECT MUSIC, PERFECT LYRICS !!! IOANNIS KTISTOPOULOS, VOLOS, GREECE
This is one of the songs of which I knew it would be underrated. And NO THAT'S NOT BECAUSE IT'S THE UK ENTRY!!! This is a kind of song of a very rare quality, but of which you can predict that the ESC audience just won't appreciate it. (Though I must admit, he ruined the ending).
@@rudigerkipferl4479 Not sure if I could call that entry similar, since when Portugal came with that song I knew it had a good chance for victory. There were some elements in the Portuguese entry. First of all, that song was in Portuguese, a language nearly nobody outside Portugal understands (not in Europe, anyway), and that can work in both the song's favor as disfavor. The lyrics theme were also a bit different. This was a song about a father kissing his daughter goodbye because she fell in love, though it hurts the father to see his girl go. The Portugal song was in theme pretty cute, and also a bit... I dunno how to describe it... odd.... "If you don't love me, then I'll love the both of us on your behalf". Yeah... how should I judge that? Now I'm not gonna comment the heart issues the Portuguese singer had, but the expression on his face was magical. You had to love him even before he began to sing and the way he brought the song did also work wonders. It's not only the song itself that can decide stuff... Also Portugal's song was a jazz ballad and this was a bit more classical ballad. The voice of that Portuguese guy and the way he used it was also something different. No I am personally not sure I can compare the two songs.
Yeah I quite like this year's - Sam has a great voice and not a bad tune. But I was trying to remember great UK songs of the past, and came here first.
The best song. The best voice . The best performer. beaten by the Russian Grannies , Engelberts performance and delivery of this beautiful song that even he thought was a winner was throwing strawberries before swine to this Eurovision farce . The song remains the most powerful most atmospheric and hauntingly moving . It deserves another chance .
We would of gone higher if we wasn't first :( the 1st song is easily forgotten about after so many others. But the again, no one had a chance against Euphoria.
lonmar0612 Going last is as bad as going first, by the end 3/4 songs most people have made their minds up and want the songs to be over so the last ones get forgotten as well, exactly what happened with Molly this year. The best place is 18th/19/20th in the running order. Anyway I do still believe further in the running order we would have done better, not much better but still better. Our fate for a low score was sealed who butchered the song in the jury final.
Loreen is the first song sung by a single voice. Engelbert master with this sound and this sound the twenty-fifth. Europe certainly does not understand music. Long live the master Engelbert
I remember my mum was crazy about him in the sixties; him and Matt Munro. Now I realise myself just how good a singer he has always been; and, yes, he deserved to come much higher in the order of results than he did. What if he had done so? Well, there would have been a resurgence of fine singers, singing in their native tongue. Aznavour would have been fielded by the Armenians. We would have seen some of the fine performers who are still with us.
Well, to be honest, Humperdinck isn't singing in his native tongue. He is singing in American, as he always has. 50's American, to be precise. The UK was one of the first to start committing cultural suicide by voluntary self-Americanisation like this, and we now see the logical end result, with every European country choosing which neighbourhood of Los Angeles or New York to represent the language and the musical culture of.
To all the haters this man is one of the greatest singers of all time over 160,000,000 million records sold sells out every show at age 76 tell how many can do that? Has an 8,000,000 fan base around the world is a great person loves his fans Enge rocks!!!
He deserves a better place, only 12 points is an affront to the music. I can't believe that a superb song ends the contest in a 25th place, I award it with 12 points! BEAUTIFUL SONG AND A GREAT PERFORMER. Congratulations United Kingdom for your choice!
We got more support from eastern Europe than west? Since 2009 we have had more points of Albania on its own than Switzerland, Netherlands, Belgium & France put together. Generally only Ireland, Malta and Spain in western Europe vote for us in any regular form, even in Spain that's due to the British diaspora. It's even hard to get anything from Scandinavia, 2014 was the best we have done there for years. Only Denmark seems to sympathize with us there.
Ilk 5🎉🎉🎉🎉
Being that I'm from the US, I'm not sure what Eurovision is. However, just from the song perspective and not looking it as some talent contest as I've been reading some of your comments, it was a beautiful song. I would like there to be a time again where we all can just sing a good song and not worry that it is being judged in a contest. Music, at least when I was younger, was just enjoyed and not picked apart. For as old as Engelbert is, he knocked it out of the park in my opinion. Thanks.
This was a brilliant performance! I'm just not sure if it's a proper eurovision song unfortunately. United Kingdom is lovely, but they should start considering an uptempo song instead of these kind of tunes, since people are not voting for them :/ God bless the UK
Britain, home of The Beatles, David Bowie, One Direction, and so many other legends, so WHY can't we win, one year we should just say, f*** it, we'll put forward Adele and destroy every other contestant.
***** Blue wasn't "current" when they went on it. Weren't they split up or on hiatus when they announced they were competing? Even if they weren't, they definitely wasn't churning out hit after hit during that time and they definitely wasn't as big as Adele. Katrina and the Waves was nearly 20 years ago, it was a totally different world back then. Eurovision have turned into a sort of joke in our country since then.
There are around 40 participants in this contest. Everyone wants to win and every year each country send their best to this competition. Statistically, speaking, on average, a country would won every 40 years. UK have won on 1997, reached the 5th on 2009 and Blue was in the top 10 on 2011. So, calm down... :p To win the competition, one is not only have to have a good song and perform well, but also the ability to capture people's heart (like what the Russian grandmothers did).
Que injusta votación, para mi el mejor con diferencia, con su grandiosa voz, elegancia y simpatia .. para mi el ganador mi Engelbert forever in my heart Love you Mr Humperdinck
You don't have to win Eurovision to be a winner. This song is a winner and no-one can beat Engelbert's talent. Be proud UK.

BECAUSE LOVE COMES ONCE IF YOU' RE LUCKY ENOUGH . . .
So much under rated participation . . .
PERFECT MUSIC, PERFECT LYRICS !!!
IOANNIS KTISTOPOULOS,
VOLOS, GREECE
This is one of the songs of which I knew it would be underrated. And NO THAT'S NOT BECAUSE IT'S THE UK ENTRY!!! This is a kind of song of a very rare quality, but of which you can predict that the ESC audience just won't appreciate it. (Though I must admit, he ruined the ending).
Still Portugal won a few years later with a similar song. Love them both. It's a pity this one was so severely underrated... ☹️
Opinion approved. the ending did kinda get ruined on a high note
@@TheRealTricky It's not about a father, it's about an older lover. You just need to re-read the lyrics if you doubt it.
Душевное выступление.Когда это было...щас бы уже трансы танцевали.
I really like this song and I think it was probably placed in the wrong slot to gain its best impact.
This song is still one of my number ones🤗
His touch is magic🙏🏻
Yeah I quite like this year's - Sam has a great voice and not a bad tune. But I was trying to remember great UK songs of the past, and came here first.
The best song. The best voice . The best performer. beaten by the Russian Grannies , Engelberts performance and delivery of this beautiful song that even he thought was a winner was throwing strawberries before swine to this Eurovision farce . The song remains the most powerful most atmospheric and hauntingly moving . It deserves another chance .
It was the draw that cost him
The most talented singer on the stage by far, a legend. This is true talent, for me it's him the winner.
Unbelievable. The man is a master.
UK is traditionally criminally underrated over the past two decades, no exception here of course.
We would of gone higher if we wasn't first :( the 1st song is easily forgotten about after so many others. But the again, no one had a chance against Euphoria.
tbh I think even he had gone on last it was just a forgettable song. I like it don't get me wrong but it was forgettable.
I liked this song more than euphoria.)
lonmar0612 Going last is as bad as going first, by the end 3/4 songs most people have made their minds up and want the songs to be over so the last ones get forgotten as well, exactly what happened with Molly this year. The best place is 18th/19/20th in the running order. Anyway I do still believe further in the running order we would have done better, not much better but still better. Our fate for a low score was sealed who butchered the song in the jury final.
He deserved top 10!

Has an 8,000,000 fan base around the world is a great person loves his fans Enge rocks!!!
one of the best song in ESC so underrated ...
very underrated
He deserves a better place, only 12 points is an affront to the music. I can't believe that a superb song ends the contest in a 25th place, I award it with 12 points! BEAUTIFUL SONG AND A GREAT PERFORMER. Congratulations United Kingdom for your choice!
Happy birthday sir !
This song turned me into a Humperdinck fan!!!!
Deep respect, for Gary Dorsey, and the U.K should have won!!
Greetzz from Holland!!!!!!!!!!!!
he sung brilliant we need to pull out of this political ripe
We got more support from eastern Europe than west? Since 2009 we have had more points of Albania on its own than Switzerland, Netherlands, Belgium & France put together. Generally only Ireland, Malta and Spain in western Europe vote for us in any regular form, even in Spain that's due to the British diaspora. It's even hard to get anything from Scandinavia, 2014 was the best we have done there for years. Only Denmark seems to sympathize with us there.
Ashley Wright Yeah this year we got points from 3 of the 5 Nordic countries, Denmark, Norway and Iceland, which was surprising.
He is 76. With that voice. How can you dislike?
this song is really classy and engelbert is a musical legend. deserved higher than it got! :D
First my Granddad, then my Dad.. now Me, in a age of 18..This is wonderfull
Stilk listening just amazing but why so many dislikes?
Ilk 5🎉🎉🎉🎉
He has such an amazing job. He did a great job! This shouldn't have been that low.. top 15 at least
Come on Azerbaijan and Europe!
This song wasn't Eurovision material right from the start, but the Hump did great with what was given to him. Respect.
Cannot wait until 29th oct to see Engelbert
In Melbourne.
I love two men in their 80's and I'm 64 Engelbert Humperdinck and Al Pacino; both the best in there craft :)
amazing song
This is the song, this is the singer.....
Greetings from Istanbul, Turkey
Britain, home of The Beatles, David Bowie, One Direction, and so many other legends, so WHY can't we win, one year we should just say, f*** it, we'll put forward Adele and destroy every other contestant.
You say it as if any current self-respecting artist would agree to come anywhere near this competition. :P
jk12324 Blue did. Katrina & The Waves did as well in 1997, and they bloody won!
To win the competition, one is not only have to have a good song and perform well, but also the ability to capture people's heart (like what the Russian grandmothers did).
Oh shut up! You've won many times in the past. Give a chance to countries that never won eurovision like Poland, Lithuania, Belarus, Romania etc.
Yep, he still had it then. And he's STILL got it now! 88 years of charm & pure talent. ❤❤
Que injusta votación, para mi el mejor con diferencia, con su grandiosa voz, elegancia y simpatia .. para mi el ganador mi Engelbert forever in my heart Love you Mr Humperdinck
This was the only song that contains art and real music at the same time.At least, it should have been in top 10...
Greetings from Turkey!
