Is Richard Ayoade smart? To me, his persona is geeky/nerdy guy. But he doesn't appear as smart as the stereotype of nerds/geeks. He's intelligent. But I don't see him as academically smart.
I liked the bit at the end when Shaun was expressing his 'delight' at getting Roshin on his team again. His license has more points on it than Roshin has ever earnt on countdown.
That's how you know Paul Foot is a genuine mathematician. We don't need to actually calculate the answer, that's trivial. That's what engineers are for.
I liked the Richard Ayoade one where he used a few square roots to come up with the correct answer. Even Rachel was impressed. For some reason it wasn't allowed though.
@@simonkevnorris The problem with that one was it wasn't actually that impressive; if they'd told Claudia and Jon they were allowing exponents I'm 100% sure that both of them would have come up with the same thing Richard did. They're both very good at math. Both of them were able to determine well within the 30 seconds that the problem was impossible under the rules which was just as impressive.

Marko Todorovic to be fair, countdown maths is a lot different to anything you’d teach in a classroom. There isn’t really any way to “teach” someone how to solve countdown problems, you just have to be good at seeing the solutions.

8 out of 10 cats was a late night comedy game show with comedians. Countdown is a boring daytime show in which they try to make words out of the letters they are given. There is also a number round where they have to make the main number they are given with a few other numbers. They combined the tv shows together to make it the style of countdown but with the comedians of 8 out of 10 cats
