Bayek is the reason why I still have a very soft spot for Origins despite my dislike for the RPGs. I can’t explain how attached I felt to Bayek and his story. His voice actor really did outperform himself.

      My thoughts exactly!

It's especially unbelievable that Bayek's voice actor (I can't remember his name) was only like 23-24 when he recorded the lines for Origins. For such a young man he could really nail those more emotional scenes, the ones with Shadya for example.

Mirage is a huge downgrade compared to Origins. Here's very short list of downgrades off the top of my head:
    1. You can't use sword while on horseback
    2. Walking and running animations are worse
    3. Fire and lighting are worse
    4. Boat physics is terrible
    5. Footprints on sand look like a joke
    6. The open world is like 10 times smaller
    7. Robe physics is outdated
    8. Clothes don't get wet when you enter shallow water
    9. The water doesn't get bloody when you throw corpses in it
    10. Fights with animals are terrible + you can't hunt
    11. Enemy AI is dumb: they don't carry dead bodies, they don't have any schedules (in Origins they patrol, go to sleep, sit by the fire, go to take a piss etc.)

I also loved the balance origins struck with combat and stealth and I believe they perfected the assassination progression but felt it was missing the traditional AC touch with how vast the world was and how much was going on all at once, so when Mirage came out I was in love because it took everything I liked about origins and refocused it

      @enzoamore8971 10 месяцев назад +42

I actually kind of liked the idea of upgrading the hidden blade as a one off thing for Bayek. The blade isn't perfected yet, and him upgrading it to how it is in later games before Altair is kind of cool.
Of course I believe this should only be a thing in Origins tho, just like how the combat is more important. This should be a outlier and not the norm.

Bayek in my honest opinion had the best voice actor in the entire series. That counts a lot on the feel of the game, as you spend time with the character, understanding things changes by the way they express themselves. One of the reasons people love AC4 and still play it a lot nowadays, is the great voice acting for Edward and Adewale. In Mirage, Roshan voice actress is the best. They need to create a DLC for Roshan.

I honestly think Origins is one of the best in the series. I will give the parkour and stealth to Mirage by a LONG shot cause that's what the games designed for lol, but I just think Origins tops it in almost every other way, obviously the story and characters are better because its a far bigger game with more time put into it, but from the voice performances to the motion capture to their individual stories, origins handles characters and their stories much better. Bayek is one of the best main characters from not just AC but from the last couple years of games as a whole. and Basim is cool and has the potential to be amazing (if they gave one of these guys a sequel for once) he imo doesn't really stand a chance with Bayek. the combat while not being everyones favorite has some of the most depth and customization from the series and once you learn can be just as fun as the counter based system from the older games, in my playthrough of the main story I never needed to go out of my way for any of the upgrades because I didn't just blast through the story, and imo I think with games like Origins or Unity or even the older AC games, or games like RDR2 or Ghost of Tsushima, its much better and an overall more fulfilling experience to take your time and explore the world then to just slam your way through the story. I get that its not everyone's prefered playstyle but games as big as Origins or Red Dead and with as fleshed out characters like Bayek if you don't get lost in that world then maybe that game wasn't really for you in the 1st place. and from a game from 2017 it still looks phenomenal and from the characters to the world itself looks better then Mirage imo. I get that Mirage is a much smaller game with much less time then Origins but there is just so much to do in Origins, from the ridiculous amount of side content, to the bases, to the tombs, to the gladiator arena, to the hippodrome, to those giant bosses, to just exploring Egypt and its cities to the huge open deserts and bodies of water. plus in Origins you can fight hippos so 🤷

Awesome take on the similarities and differences when comparing Origins and Mirage.
I’m a huge history buff and personally enjoy the time periods around Ancient Greece and ancient Egypt. While the larger maps added a lot of “dead space”, the vibrancy the open world gives us provides an opportunity to explore a world far in the past.
Mirage is awesome so far, and it’s very refreshing to get away from the hack and slash of Valhalla. I’m having alot of fun in a dense city, working as an assassin and street thief.
In terms of character comparisons, I think most of would lean to Bayek.
They create a deep story telling of his character from the start while putting together all the pieces that have inevitably lead him to creating the hidden ones.
He’s a character I truly rooted for from start to finish.

From an Egyptian Egyptology nerd and old AC fan, I LOVED both, but I think
Story = Origins(including everything, side content, and DLC) is more fleshed out and complex while Mirage is more direct and simple in formula, which is refreshing after Odyssey and valhalla. I beleive both actually compliment the game, Origins was the shift people were waiting for and it delivered, Mirage also serves a similar purpose making its simplicity(by simple I am referring the lineraity of the story and how it incorporated everything an old ac fan wants in an AC story, like the Assassin vs Templar conflict, the Isu element the amazing assassination missions, the Assassin brotherhood, stealth, parkour etc) side note I love that both have a good replayability factor.
Combat = Origins wins in combat for its sheer variety of wepons and animations, Origins has a well rounded combat. My hot take is that Mirage's combat isn't ugly or bad it is just a stripped down version of valhalla's with style speed and cool finishers if you get the combos right.
Stealth = Mirage wins, even though Origins had a good and functional ai, and outposts etc Mirage perfected the stealth system Origins was aiming for and brought back fan favorite tools.
Parkour = Mirage wins fs, the reliability of ejects was important for me and Origins lacked that but Mirage didn't, plus even though I loved Origins and the setting, most of the nile valley reminded me of modern Egyptian rural villages, which do not have many parkour elements for an Assassin to parkour on😂(not historically innacurate btw most Egyptians were farmers and lived in small villages up until the industrial revolution, but the setting was just not well suited for parkour compared to the dense baghdad- granted Alexanderia Memphis Cyrene and Thebes had a good amount of density but nothing compared to Mirage).
Protagonists = I loved Bayek, and I think he has the potential to surpass Ezio if he gets 1 ir 2 sequels, he's like the Egyptian Kratos to me😂(Similar backstory, similar character progression, plus Assassin elements, plus a well written and acted character, Bayek was great to me as an Egyptian, an Assassin's creed fan and a God of War fan)but Basim's archetypal hero personality was not bland or a negative to me, I think it actually improved the story's flow, as it showed us his character development in 5 stages, street theif to apprentice to initiate to master to half Loki serving the tragic and serious tone of the game.
Overall, even though I am not the kind that finds common ground and takes both sides, I am conflicted on which is better because they both served their purpose perfectly

    @gnb_2476 10 месяцев назад +3

It is Origins for me. Ancient Egypt is still my favorite setting, and the roleplay and immersion you could have as an assassin is still strong in the game. I play Bayek as a Medjay warrior who may not be proficient with stealth but must learn to master it to hunt those responsible for the death of his son and protect his people. So I felt that the story and inability to one-shot assassinate enemies in the beginning made sense, and phylakes and some commanders were experienced warriors who can give Bayek a challenge.

My biggest gripe with Origins is the continuity of the Assassins being tossed aside just so they could make well known historical figures be the antagonists of the game. It was stated in the 4th game that the Assassins existed for "thousands of years" in the year 1512 AD. Ubisoft decided to scrap that for less than 1600 years prior. They could have gone back another 2,000 years and still had an Egyptian setting, but in the end it was more important to splash in a big name than stay accurate to the lore, which they then butchered further by making Odyssey predate the "origin" game that was immediately before it.
Origins has better characters and a better plot, but the lack of care for lore in favor of recognition, teeth pulling level system and upgrades, as well as the super fantastical elements that have no base in the game universe lore just destroy it's reputation in my eyes, and I would much rather play Mirage, even with the glaring flaws that it has, because of that true Assassin's Creed experience that has seldomly been seen since the Desmond Miles era.

I think a perfectly sized world is Rogue's, you have the North Atlantic to explore on boat, you have River Valley to explore the wilderness on foot, and you have New York as a city to explore
I'm fairly certain that the North Atlantic is much smaller than The Caribbean in AC4, but as a whole Rogue has a "bigger" map, as in more playable area, not necessarily just one big map though

Mirage's smaller, more focused map feels very encouraging for multiple playthroughs. Not to mention the larger tool kit is precisely what I felt Origins stealth was missing.

I am an old school AC fan, after playing Mirage I re-visited Origins again, my-oh-my Origins in 2023 feels like a game came yesterday and Origins is soooo much soo much better than Mirage, atleast for me it felt like that. I could feel the love and passion the ubisoft poured on origins while playing it, the combat the stealth and most importantly the jaw-dropping story was so amazing. For the first time in my gaming years playing a game for the third time felt like playing a whole new game.! Origins is simply astonishing.

Although it is unlikely, I still hope and believe that Mirage's motions could change. If I'm not mistaken there are a few games where whole scenes are changed for better experience, and I think if Mirage's developers' dedication and if the sales are high, they could pull off applying motion capture in scenes that are really in need of it.

Mercenaries are just too easy to kill in Mirage, but the game play and story is the thing here.
Story I'd say goes to Origins, holy crap its good, and Bayek's back story? Amazing.
Game play goes to Mirage, it just feels like home again (By that I mean like the older games), the parkour is incredible and is even more useful for dense areas like cities, which is why Mirage is fourth place in parkour for me, the other three being the Ezio Collection.
I like Mirage more than Origins.

u should compare mirage and ac1. i recently beat the first game for the first time after completing mirage. they are both very good and suprisingly similar in my opinion. ac1 is obviously held back by things like graphics and animations and even the lack of story but through all that i felt like the first game held up extremely well and encapsulates the feeling and simplicity of being an assassin much better. i personally found altair wayy cooler and i liked the dullness and darkness of the world(even though its always day:/). parkour was super similar to me as well but being able to eject and stuff made 1's feel better. combat was better, i liked having kill animations for the sword, dagger, and hidden blade, and them all being different in skill to pull off a counter kill.

I have similar thoughts as you, Origin has great art and a large area to explore, and Mirage has a lot beautiful scenes in the rich city Bagdad. Also, I like the stealth system better in Mirage than Origin, spending my time and create strategy for it is fun! One thing I like to point out, I really like the Discovery tour in Egypt and Greek worlds, but they cancel it in Mirage, I feel bad that I cant walk around the city, watch scenes of people's daily life, and listen the tour guide in the background. I knew there are history documents I can read, but it doesn't feel the same! I guess it probably caused by the low budget, and I hope they will make Discovery tour for Bagdad as DL in the future. They put so many beautiful details in Bagdad, it will be a waste to not create a tour with them.

I think Origins is the better story but Mirage is the better game. The fact that you don’t have to grind to progress thru the story or upgrade the hidden blade makes the gameplay so much more enjoyable. I love the first two rpg games but the leveling systems were horrible in Origins (idk why but Odyssey didn’t have the same leveling issue for me).

Now that I finished watching the video, I agree with most of what you said. I will point out, however, that I believe Origins does have better AI than Mirage. For instance, in Origins, if enemies find another soldier dead, not only they will be alerted, but eventually one of them will actually pickup the corpse and drop it somewhere else, changing their routine. Also, their night routine is different than their day routine, which may be beneficial for infiltrating at night and can also change the enemies patrolling route while you are infiltrating, as some of them may actually go to sleep. Despite that, I agree that the stealth is better in Mirage.
As for story, I disagree with your opinion on Mirage's story and characters. I honestly believe Mirage has the worse story and characters in the entire franchise. Basim is the blandest main character in Assassin's Creed, and his dynamics with Nehal don't make any sense, even in light of the ending. The story is almost uninteligible, with characters throwing a bunch of hard to read names around and completely bland and uninteresting plot points. Eventually, I tuned out for most of the story. I felt no connection with any of the characters or villains, and I was just assassinating for the gamepla, like I mentioned in my previous comment. The characters and story of Origins are leagues better than Mirage, in my opinion, and rank amongst the best in the entire series.
    Anyway, great video!

  • @NoGoodDirtyRicer

For me, it’s Origins and it’s not a competition. The gameplay is very fun in both games tho.
My biggest complaint with Origins is that the map doesn’t really allow for good parkour. Though I do think it more than makes up for that with literally everything else in the game, such as the beautiful map, the amazing story, the (sometimes too) diverse range of weapons, the kill animations, the cutscenes, the side missions, the writing, the voice acting, etc. I don’t even mind the more RPG-like elements of Origins ‘cause unless you’re one of those people that only play the main story, you’ll never really have a level issue and stealth is still very much a viable way to play (it’s how I played 99% of the game).
Unfortunately Mirage doesn’t do quite as much anywhere near as well. It brings back parkour, though it’s based on Valhalla’s parkour system, so although the map is rooftop heaven, it feels pretty sluggish. The combat is very much back to basics and it’s pretty fun, though I find my parries don’t always work. The stealth is definitely an improvement on any of the last 3 games, I quite like the tools and their upgrade options as well. Now that I’m done with what it does well… onto the rest. Although I am glad to get something more focused on the actual brotherhood of Assassins (Hidden Ones), the story is not very compelling, nor is it very well written, which is only made worse by the terrible voice acting, with a few exceptions, it’s pretty awful across the board. Even the good VAs sound bad in the game thanks to the writing. 90% of the cutscenes are still over the shoulder dialogue. What side missions there are are very boring and don’t seem to serve much of a purpose. And finally, the map is pretty boring, there’s no noticeable variation between the different parts of Baghdad and there’s not a whole lot going on outside of the city either. I’ve also noticed the NPCs are a bit odd, a lot of the time they’ll just be standing in the middle of the bridges or streets just doing absolutely nothing, staring off into space.

Origins is stunning the fact Ubisoft made that game and delivered an amazing story with a massive world which yes can get repetitive but playing it for your first time you’d most likely love it. The protagonist bayek is for me the most unique with his show of emotions and dedication to for fill his revenge story and it shows throughout the game and especially the start with the knife in the mask scene. Personally after not even playing mirage yet, I’ve seen so much gameplay and I definitely agree with animations and the speed for parkour but then again this game is new and of origins had a massive update with changes like that it would be the best AC game but it’s understandable why their focus was the rpg at the time. As this is in my top 3 favourite AC games with black flag and AC Unity up there, all have different reasons on being up there I think AC Unity would of been the best AC game if it came out in this date but the rpg games it’s definitely AC origins for now but let’s see what Code Red brings cause I’m very excited for it as long as it’s not like Valhalla.

The stealth is great in mirage, might even be my favorite stealth system of the series. The blackbox assassinations were a lot of fun. And of course the open world. Baghdad is probably my favorite city in AC. Or rome, I can’t decide.

As an OG AC fan, if Origins allowed us to instant assassinate main targets, side objective targets and high level enemy commanders after getting the hidden blade(without the need to upgrade sh*t) and it had Mirage's combat and stealth options, it would have been a masterpiece, the crown jewel of the AC RPG trilogy and maybe Odyssey and Valhalla would have been widely accepted if they had the same gameplay features.

    22:33 Agree. Aya was a great sub-protagonist.
In the story, Bayek is a character who is relatively lacking in political aspects, not only because he has a relative lack of connection to politicians, but also because he does not trust politicians.
(Like Connor Kenway in AC3 or Jin Sakai in GoT, Bayek is a kind of people's fighter.
It would have been strange if Bayek, who had no connection with Rome, had assassinated Caesar.)
The character that compensates for these shortcomings is Aya.
Of course, Bayek also had his own creed and sense of purpose, and was a character who was much more involved with the people than Aya, and he awakened Aya from her blind loyalty to Cleopatra.
As married couple characters and main/sub protagonists, Bayek and Aya are characters who complement each other's shortcomings.
I really want to see a sequel to Bayek/Aya.

I like both but I prefer Origins. While I appreciate Mirage for going back to its stealth roots which gave me lots of nostalgia, I didn't find myself invested much in the story or side missions in Mirage but instead I was just rushing through the game while occasionally enjoying the nice views. Origins gameplay may not be stealth focused but like you correctly said in this video we are given the choice on which gameplay style you want to apply which gave Origins more depth in my opinion. All and all if its mainly nostalgic and traditional AC stealth gameplay you value then Mirage is better but if its story, exploration and characters with less stealth options than Mirage and past AC games then Origin clears. 💯

That’s a very interesting concept I actually think about a lot. I feel like I’m terms of strength and without the bs gods, Bayek might be stronger then Connor, but skill wise, I couldn’t see him surviving an assassin from Blacl flag and earlier as all of them are easily more skilled fighters who utilize stealth in a far more advanced sophisticated way. But he is more skilled then the Frye twins and Arno, and without powers, he beats eivor and the misthios

I agree with the 3 points
World: Each has its own merits, but as an Assassin's Creed game, Baghdad world is better designed
Stealth: Mirage really made me play like how I used to play. Just as I did in Unity and Syndicate. The tools yoi have encourage you to use them.
Combat: Mirage can be better, as an Assassin's Creed game. Just take note of Sekiro. The fights are fluid, and responsive. My main gripe is when enemy blocks your attack, they stop for a second, when they should be using that time to strike back, and you having to counter again. The break in the flow kills it.
Story: Gonna give it to Origins. It's always a different feel when your character has their own motivation for the story. Also the voice acting. It really feels weird in Mirage. Like it's good but you know they're not giving it their all. Maybe because they don't record it together with the other actors. They just have to imagine the responses.
16 hours for Mirage main story is passable. Short but straight to the point. But I think I lean more to the 25 hours. Anyway this game is cheaper.
