      Was it still a usable stadium? The stadium looks like it wasn't in bad shape like Oakland Coliseum.

    • @Jkev24
      @Jkev24 3 года назад

      @@xxGravyBabyxx I mean it was "Usable" like a donut is usable to drive on for a bit. The stadium has been kind of trash since the early to mid 2000s. There's a reason why the NFL refused to host another superbowl in SD after Oakland vs Tampa - remember the NFL (in the last 25 years) loves hosting the Super Bowl in warm weather environments or in domes so they can avoid the winter weather (well except for that one year in New York lol).
      Amenities were below average, parking was atrocious (like if you've ever been to Dodger Stadium, it's pretty much just like that. At least Dodger stadium has the excuse of it being in LA where traffic is just bad in general), and it just was a giant concrete eyesore.
      I'm a Chargers fan and SDSU Alumni, so I've been to this stadium about a dozen or so times. It just wasn't a good stadium. It was outclassed by university venues already (Like the only major football stadium up and down the Pacific Coast that was worse than Qualcomm would probably be the LA Coliseum, but at least there is some cool history attached to that).

      @@xxGravyBabyxx It was in better shape than the Coliseum, but it needed about $100 mil worth of deferred maintenance. Usable for sure, but lots of work to make it great. It probably still could have worked for SDSU if they had just demolished the additions, restored it to its original configuration of 50K and renovated the rest of it. All of its issues were fixable. But everyone wants new and shiny so that was never going to happen.

      Oh man, I loved watching the surfer bros fight the pirates in the parking lot as a kid hahaha.
      Not gonna lie, hated Oakland fans, but I did respect their passion.
      Feels like SD Charger fans and Oakland Raider fans are now a bit friendlier with both our teams taken from us. We're like the two grandpas who hated each other in their youth, but as they got older realized they actually had a lot in common and are now just both in their rocking chairs on a porch reminiscing about the past while still throwing in the occasional light hearted jab, but we just now laugh it off.
      Anyways, salute to you guys. At least with the Raiders moving to Vegas you can make a fun weekend trip to watch them. I love LA myself (born SD, but my whole family is from LA), but can't say I would look forward to watching a game in a practically empty stadium that has more away fans than Charger fans lol.

    So many great times at that stadium. My very 1st game was a 2005 pre season game vs the packers. A good friend who had 6 season tickets for years sold me 4 his seats from the 2007-2009 seasons. Got to see all the greats. We sat in section 12 rows 3 and 4 seats 1 and 2 right on the isle field level literally feet from the cheerleaders next to the west endzone. The previous year we got to witness L.T. make history breaking the single season touchdown record. We live in Imperial County and would drive 2 hours to San Diego at 6am on Sunday mornings for the games. Stadium would open up at 8am for tailgating at which time we would pop our 1st beer as we unloaded our grills and canopies. Those were some of best times of my life. Just hanging out grilling, drinking some beers, laughing with close friends and family. I swear I could go on for hours talking about the days. Though I haven't been to San Diego in a while it's still heartbreaking to see the stadium demolished. Guess what they say is true, all good things eventually have to come to an end😟

    I’m a Charger fan from West Virginia and I still can’t believe they left for L.A. We already had hardly any fans and this reduced that even further. I understand the move from a business perspective but this isn’t how you treat a loyal fanbase.

    This makes me kind of sad. I had so many good times through out the years here; it's like they're destroying my memories of the good times I had there, especially as a kid - many concerts, baseball games, and The Chargers and I drive by here everyday and it has been a constant reminder to me all these good times - now there's nothing there.

      Nah that's all Spanos, he's a greedy fucking clown. Faulconer tried to work with him, even offered to help finance a new stadium at the Murph site. (along with a loan from the NFL). Spanos wouldn't even entertain the idea, it was either Downtown, or he's moving to LA. He never dealt in good faith from the beginning.

    Sad. My Bucs won their 1st Super Bowl against the Raiders there.
    There used to be an arena nearby. I grew up in the circus and was on Ringling in '95. I lived on the train but drove my Trans Am from town to town. I remember it being hotter than hell, then you went over the mountains into San Diego and the temp drop was 20 degrees. I laid in the grass waiting for when when the train pulled in to start working.
    Sad seeing it torn down with nothing to replace it with. LA has proven time and again they cannot support a NFL team.
