    Congrats on it all to Tal. And thank goodness this wasn't another of those drugged-up spinny-boys, on loan from Ibiza or something! But (not that I don't appreciate getting to see one of ya run up the beach with the rod) I would still love to see more experimentation, with adjusting/committing weight back as far as it'll go without the drag slipping, since this'll put more bend in the curved-butt rod, storing a lot of potential energy, which can start to turn the creature if it falters for a moment, even if one is just hanging on/back with a straight, unflexing arm. And whenever recoil power of the rod STARTS to turn a big creature, if you are committed that far back, you start to slowly fall over - with only your ankles working HARD yet - which'll maintain a good bend in the rod... and then you use the recoil power in the rod to recoil back upwards, by finally flexing your rod arm* and aided by winding yourself back upwards with your reel hand (*sharply enough to unweight, like skateboarding or surfing, real ninja like, to gain line, and so that you can then "un-flex" it to drop your weight back to start over). In fact, save for any Going-full-Ninja on the way back up, Tal starts to pretty much do all this at the 14:39 mark, I think it is, for a bit. Course it does introduce the possibility of "skidding" in soft sand, but you could always move down the beach to get away from that. And, I know you're both well aware of the necessity of leaning back some... but what I'm talking about is leaning back all the way to the very edge of the tipping-over point, to begin with. Which ya can do, without a harness (and I very much admire y'all's efforts in THAT direction), with your new, more compact, reel, because you can guide the line (more diagonally across every third time, ideally:) with your hand on the foregrip... instead of absolutely needing a harness if one wants to guide the line well with a big bulky reel, where you need to hang your hand on the frame to reach the line. And, I'm not tryin to Amerisplain or anything, cuz I got started in this direction by an Aussie, Dennis Braid... but, in his OG video he was strictly using harnesses, and big bulky reels, whereas what I and no doubt some others are pioneering is using just the leverage of a shoulder that is connecting weight that is way behind your feet, linked to the reel with a straight (not very strained) arm, in a way that even works with 14 ounce spinning reels, if you grab the spool and your rod has some honest backbone. And works well enough with 80lb gear and no harness that I even found myself wishing, even though it has good backbone, that my not-bent-butt rod was longer than 5'6" on my last blue. (Which is why I'm gonna strip the foregrip, reel seat, and slick butt off of it and its mate, put one more guide on, cut a new foregrip on one side lengthwise [so I can leave the current guides on], glue that and a ferrule on, and add adjusta-butts, to make them 7 foot vertically when in straight-butt mode, but more like 6 foot horizontally when in bent-butt mode.) But yeah, by efficiently keeping enough pressure on 'em to keep them coming or going the whole time, the idea is to beat fish before you need a harness... though I definitely admire y'all's "whatever feels right at the time" approach. And am really liking the way the back end of the Scout is unobstructed all the way to the motor, for easy pass-arounds. Was it like that before? (And, of course, as expected, but nonetheless appreciated, awesome video!!)

    • @bobh1208
      @bobh1208 2 года назад +1

      If I was paranoid, I'd think the "algorithm" is getting SCARY good, because next-door was a year-old Briggsy video I had not seen before, that happens (or didn't just "happen"... oooohhh) to exemplify, better than any of the other Morning Tide associated ones (including Dennis V's big Yellowfin from the rocks, which are more about locked down drag and leaning back only far enough for a "Mexican Standoff" [which, granted, probably beats a pelagic by starving it of oxygen somewhat... but isn't a FULLY full-on way to fight a fish]), the extent of lean that I am talking about... though it's a little sketchy in Briggsy's case here, because he has hard rock behind his head, and knows he has a shark on, and mono leader, and he does wind up on his ass in that instance... but, is saved from concussion danger either by his Fart Culture practice (a Harrier landing?) or by his backwards cap. Actually (and reassuringly, for all considering this technique) his head does not even come that close to hitting... but, the backward cap, though it is no doubt worn that way so as not to block the head-cam, should actually be somewhat brilliant for guarding against concussing. Course IDEALLY I prefer my proficient-Aussie-angler's-videos to be from someone with the touch to (guilelessly, of course) catch and not-lose a genuinely "better half", like you and even Cavy-in-Indo... but, idealism aside... (and the rock colors are uniquely great)... here is Briggsy exemplifying the "wayyy back" way: ruclips.net/video/pgMdBwjhuwI/видео.html

    • @bobh1208
      @bobh1208 2 года назад +1

      *Not that I'm accusing Briggsy of being "hoisted on his own petard"... since after all, the Bard himself (in that very quote) promoted "fart culture"!

    • @CoastalChaosAdventures
      @CoastalChaosAdventures  2 года назад

      ahhh appreciate the response mate i'll have to give that video a watch! The only reason we dont get stuck in hard on this new gear is it is relatively light tackle... 80lb braid with an 80lb mono topshot... i personally weigh double that and have snapped 80lb tackle at the reel multiple times not even going very hard on fish so we have a bit of a delicate approach. Due to the reel capacity and the landbased factor we cant go heavier or risk the spooling factor. I'll be looking in to a 50VISX next just for that reason. thinking 100lb backing 130lb mono topshot... what you think?

    • @bobh1208
      @bobh1208 2 года назад

      @@CoastalChaosAdventures Well, it's AWFULLY hard to snap even 30lb test braid in "reverse"... and relatively easy to snap ANY of 'em in "forward"... and "five times" as easy, when a fish hits fifth gear! (Though, of course, some countries [Amerimumblemumble] like to be lied to on their labels, such that our so-called 30lb test has 50% more headroom, should someone actually tie a full strength knot in it... but, still, even braid that would break at "only" 80 with a full strength knot is basically IMPOSSIBLE to break in "reverse" [barring external damage]... unless you happen to be suspended [by your line] from a pulley, AND your drag is jerky!) The upshot being, yes, a rod whose backbone is pointed less at the fish, because you are leaning wayyy back, is more bent and thus ready to START accelerating a fish in your direction ("turning it") should the fish falter... but, as long as you are not QUITE falling yet (static), a smooth drag will still always let the fish get going away from you if the fish panics, without risking breaking the line... because you are not accelerating backwards yet, nor is the rod tip doing so. But, yeah, once a fish gets a chance to accelerate hard, and/or reach high speed, and you feel a need to accelerate the drag OR the "hand brake"... pow!! (Like what happens to Briggsy's friend in the video I linked.) This, of course, is why no one tries to arrest the first run of a blue marlin, for instance, even with 130lb test. Which, in turn, is why Brazilian skippers, who had found a new offshore sea monster fishery in the '90's, were getting dumped with 130's with 130lb mono in under two minutes! And sort of why Kona skippers, with thick 130lb test mono, would have their anglers back the drag off to very light, if they thought a big marlin was making a hard turn on its first run... so that the resultant water resistance "hot spot" (at the sharp bend) in the line would not concentrate enough pressure to make it snap. Which is why I like braid with no top-shot (just a wind-on leader and 6 or 7' lure leader). And I like to evenly turn the boat after a hook-up, which can make a fish turn away from the pressure until it is headed in the same direction as the boat, abreast, and with thin braid it is easy to get any belly there is out of the line and continue with a "toe-to-toe" fight, but with no possibility of getting dumped on the first run (should THAT one come along)... which'd result in the fish dying alone. Anyway, for now, all I'd suggest is replacing your mono top-shot with a longer length of additional 80lb braid, since I am sure you saw that you were gettin kinda low, and that, had that been an even BIGGER Tiger, things mighta gotten touch and go, capacity-wise. Plus, I'm pretty sure the less-dampening of more-braid, less-mono makes it easier to pull yourself back up quickly enough (and thus lets you commit far enough back). And, with a fast-tipped rod and a mono wind-on, I've never noticed anything "harsh" about any braid fights. Just more "communication"... which helps one keep from doing the wrong thing at the wrong time. Oh, and, most importantly, there IS, fortunately, a high strength way of connecting solid braid to solid braid... so that one doesn't have to replace all of one's somewhat expensive solid braid instead of just adding some. Just take the end of the braid on the spool, tie my description of the "Barefoot Bimini" in it (taking care to RELAX the tension on the "turnback", right after you get just past 90 degrees and start to feed on overwraps, then increase the tension on the feed - in part by prying ones toes apart - after the first few overwraps)... and then put the same knot in the line you are going to add. The double line part of at least one of the Biminis needs to be just long enough to pass the spool of new line through... and then you just pass one Bimini's loop around the other's, down past the knot, and push the spool of line through the loop that got the other loop passed around it, similar to how you would attach a wind-on to a Bimini. And, no need for extra pass throughs or anything (never broken a line there at the loop to loop connection, breaking off of bottom or anything). (And never been tempted to splice instead, even though I have some hollow spectra, and do know how.)

    I believe I may have said something similar when you landed that gorgeous Bull Shark last year, however it still rings true as far as I'm convinced. You have both surpassed Legend status a while ago and are now Genius level Luminary Megastars!!!! What an absolutely astonishing creature,...and the fish was fairly epic as well!!! Seriously, she was a beauty of a Tiger, just stunning!!! Tal can now say with complete honesty that she's had a Tiger by the tail!!! Send me your address on FB messenger, or by email if you have it from Patreon, and we'll exchange some gifts for Christmas this year if you're game!! Congratulations on finishing Uni, Tal!!! So excited for you, what were you taking, I don't remember if you told me or not, sorry. I'm just so stoked for you both with that Tiger. Most folks will just see 12ft of Death, but I've been fascinated by sharks since I was a kid, and scuba diving in a group with my Dad in Mexico, and being in about 40ft of crystal clear water when a school of about 30 Hammerheads past over top of us has to be my favourite memory of being a kid, I was 15. I respect Sharks and know that if I do something stupid it could easily cost me my life so, like you I stay calm, and just try to enjoy the experience. So an update on that tube lure I promised you. (Not that you could particularly use one before November, but anyway....) My package from Oahu just wasn't arriving, but right after "cleaning my memory" (*sticks) the other day, and turning my computer back on, and being greeted by a new video from y'all that confirmed, very nicely, that dusty memory had indeed been my (computer's) problem lately... I proceeded to my email, where there was a message from Lauren 'bout my lures, one of which they didn't have. Fortunately, it turns out, it was one of the Tailpipes, and they did have the one no-longer-made Fish Stix tube... which will give me a third one of those for 7" skirts, which'll allow me to send you that one for beachies. Since I can't conveniently communicate my email addy, (never having had a cell phone or an Instagram account!), I'll have my brother DM it to you if you're on Instagram, so that I can sooner or later ship that, and some wire, and the ARC release stick. I will admit, though, that the 32lb-test silver-colored wire bite guard "system", though it PREVENTS losing lures 9 times out of 10* (*says this note I just pulled outta my butt), DID lose me a sailfish on a jigging spoon this week.... That was hooked only 4 miles from our house, in 50 feet of water, no assist hook. Just a slightly-bent-OG-flat-fall orange spoon, with a rear hook on a split ring, that "took off" on spinning gear halfway down on a first drop... and when I flipped the bail closed somethin charged off and then up, and into the air popped a sailfish, and then it was gone. And the whole haywire twist opposite the lure end was intact, but it had broken at the end of the 90 degree coils... probably having gotten scissored by the sailfish's jaws. But, hey, as indicated, "9 times out of 10" such a bite guard prevents, rather than causes, the loss of a spoon... so it's very economically viable, over-all. And, that there sail makes me even more optimistic about my flat fall sword ideas.

    • @CoastalChaosAdventures
      @CoastalChaosAdventures  2 года назад

      Thats epic on the sailfish mate!! I've hooked 4 now but managed to loose them all unfortunately as they have all be on big topwater stickbaits going for GT's and the likes. You'll have to get back out there and amongst it to get some redemption ;-)

      @@CoastalChaosAdventures Brother's name is George H, and you'll be hearing that from him after he gets here on the 18th. Got the tube lure in the mail yesterday, and will put a greater angle on the face, and re-polish it, (having done so just fine with quite a few lures before), so that it should still stay on the surface, back where you were running your beachside blacks lures... and, will skirt it with Naugahyde in a new tendril configuration that I came up with that works well on tube lures. Course it's not something that YOU need to catch those blacks... but, should be worth trying, to see if it makes it EVEN more fun (not that I want you to blow a fuse or anything!). Bit hyped myself right now, cuz eight or so hours ago, at night, I saw two "otter cats" (Jaguarundis, that are native to Central America, not here, but some got transplanted 80 years ago - though there was no rumor last century that any of those were on the coast - but they are at least much more discreet than the non-native Pythons screwing up our Everglades) trotting out our driveway, after catterwalling(balling?) in our woods (a little coastal chaos of our own).
