‘Released in 1985 “Undertale” was a dark fantasy film produced by the Jim Henson Company and directed by Toby Fox.
The film was the result of a series of unique circumstances after the young director Toby Fox was discovered by Henson through his work on a fan film. Henson took a liking to the young creator and after receiving his draft for the then conceptual film Undertale, pushed the project into production.
The production would be troubled as the filming would take place between the productions of the then critically struggling “The Dark Crystal” and the later financially troubled “Labyrinth” stretching the company thin with its resources.
Toby Foxes direction would push the production through however, utilising old props and crafting a unique creative direction from the concept art of illustrator Temmie Chang. Additionally Toby Fox would personally compose the film’s soundtrack in a unprecedented move for a director. The final result would be a beautiful and unique score that utilised a mixture of traditional orchestral arrangements and electronic instruments.
The film would open to a mixed critical reception, many critics found the films high concept, high budget narrative convoluted with ideas of ‘determination’ and what many saw as time travel that came from this plot element. Certain aspects of the film would also frighten younger audiences, particularly the characters of ‘Omega Flowey’ and ‘Mad Dummy’ with their uncanny appearances. Despite this the films creative direction was praised wildly as well as its brilliant characters and performances. Particularly David Bowie’s performance as Mettaton despite the role only being shot over a few days in-between Labyrinth shoots.
The film would make a return on its initial investment with a profit of $37 million to its $14.5 million budget however the mixed response and the financial failure of Labyrinth would prevent any form of sequel for several years.
Eventually the film would receive a cultural and critical resurgence after the character of ‘sans’ grew to become a popular internet icon in the early 2010’s bringing new attention to the film. This would lead to a follow up series on Netflix with Toby fox and Temmie Chang returning to produce ‘Deltarune’ in 2017; with 2 seasons developed out of a planned 7 as of time of writing.’

What a wild imagination
I wasn’t born when it came out but I watched it a lot growing up because my dad had it on VHS. Looking back on it now I rather enjoyed the last thirty minutes or so, David Bowies performance as mettaton was amazing and is hands down my favorite part of the movie. as a kid though, parts of this movie really scared me, particularly the mad dummy and alphys gave me nightmares.

The Mad Dummy and Omega Flowey characters look like the parts in the movie that would give kids nightmares.
Also, Chara is my favorite one out of all of these. Flowey is a close second.

'80s kids loved movies (and anime) that gave them nightmares. Speaking from experience here. Undyne would totally dig '80s anime. Alphys would too, but she's the yin to Undyne's yang, and most '80s anime was yang-centric. Like Demon City Shinjuku.

... and once they grew up and rewatched it again they would also notice a lot of creepy moments that they missed as a kids. Such as Frisk and Papyrus dating scene or Alphys and Undyne almost kissing.

@@MissPumpkinJuice Having been an '80s kid in the '80s (with an Alphys-like otaku mindset), I can vouch for the fact that true '80s kids loved movies and anime that gave us nightmares. Ever see Demon City Shinjuku? All the main characters from Undertale could totally cosplay that! It would be "Monster City Shinjuku." Just look at the box art and you'll immediately be able to tell who'd cosplay as ho0m. Undyne would be Kyoya Izayoi.

In an alternate universe/timeline Toby Fox is the famous author of the renowned children's novel Undertale that was first published in 1979 making it his first book he ever written. In 1984 it gets adapted into a film making it a hit among fans.

In the 1980's, the fantasy genre achieved unprecedented popularity with the release of films such as Labyrinth, The NeverEnding Story, Ladyhawke, and Time Bandits, so a movie like Undertale could've very well been successful. I mean, this 80's dark fantasy trend doesn't exist in a bubble.

It's crazy how just from these images and knowing the undertale story I can just perfectly imagine this movie more or less.
The detail of Asrial being a goat in the hyper death form but then a human with horns like his parents in his normal form is a really nice touch.
And the Mad Dummy looks like it would be the random moment where it just gets super scary and abandons the plot for a bit.
Also woulda been cool to see undyne without her armor and if it would've just made her a human like the Dreemurs.

I cant image the gore in Omega Flowey scene, the Tension of the dummy or the sussiness of the Animes
I've seen a few of these and every time it makes me long for something that doesn't exist and I wish so badly it did. And every time I appreciate the different designs conjured up. This is the best ai live action Sans I've seen so far - menacing, but just "fake" enough to take the edge off an otherwise horrific image.
Papyrus and Mettaton EX always look dope as heck in these.
Also I want to hug the small Frisk so bad, kid looks so scared 😭

Videos that go hard:
Id imagine it like a kind of adventure gameshow for kids. Something similar to Knightmare by Tim Child or something like that. Like one of the children plays Frisk and a few others (up to 3 kids) get to tell frisk what to do. Watching that AND being apart of it would be great fun for both the viewers and the kids i imagine

All these kinds of videos is taking all of us to a dimension where almost any of these type of content would really exist.
Now that I think about it, it would be extremely hard to make an Undertale movie work (Hard, maybe not impossible)
How would you do it? a movie for each route? Or incorporate different timelines into the plot in order to show each of the highlights?
It'd probably just show the pacifist route tbh
- Stick to one Route (Pacifist)
- Either completely leave out or go easy on the meta humor/4th wall breaks.
- Make it act like a movie, not a video game.
- Reference timelines but don't dwelve too deeply into them unless there's sequels planned.
- Certain quotes that expand on the lore can be used in an official publication of the film or something.
Edit: Now a 4th wall break can work for Omega Flowey, who immediately makes the credits roll only to reveal it's just a trick. And maybe the Temmie's can make a 4th wall joke, too.
Maybe They do Pacifist first and then they use the reset button and do the genoside route.
Or maybe just Pacifist cause you can’t really have the protagonist lose
I’d say you do Neutral Route first, to leave it on a kinda somber note (or depending on which Neutral ending makes the most sense for a sequel, and also gives either a satisfying for the viewers) and if it does well, then you’d do a sequel. For the sequel i would say you go for True Pacifist; cause in terms of movies, the Genocide route doesn’t really bring anything good to the table, it’ll just be a sad killing spree for 1-2 hours, that wouldn’t make for a good movie. (You do get some story for Flowey, but i think there has to be a way to explain that without a full-on Genocide route movie)
I also think in the neutral route, you let Frisk kill a monster. (Either by accident, or intentional but then regrets it.) As it would make for some good conflict. I’m not sure which monster, but i’m thinking someone that Monsters in the underground really care about and need, maybe Mettaton, or Undyne, not sure.
