I love how Papyrus looks like this elaborate costume while Sans is just a dollar store puppet.
It's how they'd each choose to be represented, too.
Papyrus spectacularly, and sans as low-key as can be allowed for, budget-wise.
That's why I love this representation of them!
Hey, as long as Sans looks like he wants to die, it's pretty accurate. Lol
"NY-HEH have to look my best to capture humans!"

I can totally see the Papyrus being one of the most memorable characters in the movie with his energy and movement
Yeah like Skeletor but even more comedic
True that

Out of this "contemporary thing but dark 80's movie" meme I feel like the concepts in Undertale actually kind of work as an 80's film. Definitely the same vibe as something like Little Monsters.

i’d pay to see david bowie as mettaton
I'd like to imagine that

Well they both feel like a short story series so sure.
There's an alternate timeline where this movie was actually made. In this timeline it gave me nightmares when I was 4, and I promptly forgot about it until I was 13 and my best friend showed me the movie at a sleepover, and I thoroughly enjoyed it
I actually used to hate that movie, but I recently watched it again and really liked it
it’s also a cult classic with a couple video essays abt it on RUclips, and you always see a smattering of cosplayers of it at cons
I'm the son of the main directors, actually! He showed me the storyboards and scripts, and I have to applaud the video essays. They got nearly everything right.
Anyone remembers that dude? What's his name... SaberFart? He did a video on that movie, didn't he?

Undyne tho
Oh most definitely.
Mettaton would sing Dance Magic Dance.

Sans looks like those cheap rubber and foam suits you see at fairs and make you want to buy them.
Exceedingly appropriate.
Sans made the costume himself.
Mettaton EX was literally modeled off of 1980's rock singers so it's no surprise why he looks so perfect in this style.
I love Papyrus’s adaptation, I could imagine giving him Skeletor’s voice but still keeping his goofy personality.
Except I’d imagine he’d be less like Sans’ younger brother and more like a goofy villain who just wants Frisk dead. (Or captured idk)
i think everyone who has ever played undertale just universally agrees that papyrus has skeletor's voice
I haven’t played undertale myself but I’ve watched a full playthrough of it just to experience it and when I saw papyrus I imagined his voice as more of a soul calibur 2 yoshimitsu voice. Also rolling the R in the word great is a must. “And I, the gRReat papyrus” I just can’t imagine him not rolling his R every time he says the word great cause it just seems like something he would do.
@@TsukiStuffs Most voice actors I see give him a Skeletor esque voice but with a more nasally tone

Undyne looked too human, Mettaton could've done with some robotic skin, and Sans looked too modern and lost that charming chubbiness of his, but otherwise these are spot-on! When Asriel showed up, the whole room lit up with how cute he was, goddang! Also, both Flowey and Chara were so awesomely creepy!
Papyrus is literally skeletor and I love it.
for a 80s film that wouldn't have a lot of special effects or great costume design I'm pretty sure this is what they would have done for Undyne
@Ben the mother 3 fan Yeah it is in the 80s after all and it definitely adds to the time with human mettaton and Undyne. But wait, then how would they get skele- I mean Papyrus, Alphys, Sans, and even Toriel, Asgore, and Asriel in the film?
@@soontobechannel743 Puppetry.
@@soontobechannel743 with Papyrus, I'm sure you could have this set up of someone piloting his legs with their own, and that same person to move one of his arms and move his mouth up and down (kind of like what they do for Big Bird on Sesame Street)
maybe have the other arm remain stationary, or capable of basic broad motions with another puppeteer, or just moved by a string disguised by early cg
edit: also I feel like sans would be perfect as a stationary puppet, having him sit on rocks suddenly showing up in scenes, or leaned against trees, again suddenly showing up would be perfect for him
also I like to imagine there being an "after dark" alternate screening that is effectively the genocide route, but the violence would be too saturated for a theater, so the producers would opt in to make it exclusive to a VHS release (or even having it as a 2 tape box set! Tape 1 being the og movie)
I love how Undyne is just... a blue skinned human, and then there's Alphys, a literal lizard.
Tremendo
Mettaton is full on 80s glam rock

Edit: Undyne is PERFECT!!
Mettaton is literally perfect
Mettaton would have had some crazy musical number in this movie that people started raving about decades after the movie initially came out.
I love that the AI kept Mettaton’s appearance consistent to Ziggy era David Bowie (Mettaton’s inspiration ) 💛

As he should be.
4:07 Alpys does like anime
I love how Sans’ hoodie turned into a blue hooded fantasy cloak but it’s still so simple it looks like he just picked the cheapest thing he could find. Perfectly in character
The Alphys attempt at the end might have made her a cartoon based on 80's adult animated movies like Heavy Metal, it has that sort of look.
Papyrus looks so well fitting in here💯
I love how they all look like actual monsters
I want to see this as a legit show now so bad, it seems like something I’d watch-
Edit:maybe it’s just because of undyne, mettaton and papyrus…
That Papyrus design is actually fire
Why do almost all of these hit just perfect tho?? Really the only two I was disappointed with were Sans and Blooky but eh whatcha gonna do. And Papyrus and MTT being literally perfect in every way outweighed that disappointment. Undyne was also perfect, just get some fin ears on that girl and she's stepped right out of an 80s fantasy. Toriel was my favorite of the Dreemurrs, actually made me really happy for some reason. And even though Alphys doesn't look like Alphys at all, ngl I think she's adorable and I would take it lol.
And then that last clip just wrecked me because now I wanna watch THAT show but it doesn't exist. Where is my loosely inspired Undertale old 80s animated scifi/fantasy series gosh dang it
I think you can make napstablook work, I agree on sans though
Honestly the 2 season cartoon that was canceled before it could finish properly, would definitely have had Gaster as the main antagonist.
Honestly I think Sans doesn't look that bad- it'd look fitting, him having the cartoonish look contrasted with his more realistic brother.
I can imagine him going from having light pupils to bloodshot human eyes in the sockets as a way to make those unsettling scenes hit like they did in the game.
Papyrus looks good to the point I can already hear the light plastic thumps and rustles that accidentally make it into the recording whenever the actor gesticulates wildly.
I can also imagine Toriel, Asgore and Asriel's mouths moving in that way where it's just their lip mechanics shifting open and closed ever so slightly and twitchy-like to create that impossibly still animal face look that all realistically made puppetry tends to have.
Undertale (1985) was a dark fantasy film produced by Warner Brothers entertainment, directed by Toby Fox and codirected by Jim Henson and Tim Burton. Though critical reviews were less appreciative of the film, Undertale was beloved by moviegoers worldwide for its characters, special effects, soundtrack, and plot, which Stanley Kubrick described as "A message you'd expect to find in a kids' show like Sesame Street, put into a context that adults can learn it from". Undertale was nominated for and won several academy awards, most notably for best special effects. The use of puppets for characters such as Alphys and Sans, costumed actors for those like Toriel, Asgore, and Papyrus, and stop-motion animation for Flowey and the Dummy, were combined by much of the same crew who had previously worked with Jim Henson, and many who would go on to produce "The Nightmare Before Christmas".
Undertale retains a cult following to this day, and is widely considered by modern critics as a highlight of 1980s cinema. Charlie Roakes, who played the characters "Frisk" and "Chara", remains an active member of the fandom surrounding the movie and its franchise. As of 2022, it has produced two sequels, five spinoff novels, and a 1995 video game for the SNES.

I feel like in a world where undertale was a movie and not a game, someone remembering it would go like this
Man, I remember this movie mom bought it thinking it was a movie I want, but shhiitt this was the movie I needed. Weirdly enough this movie was actually movies and had a lot of small details you miss and actually were randomized like with other cuts. We had two tapes one with a smile and another with a four pointed star, the smile was like a adult horror movie meanwhile the star was something that was a good family movie, but I watched the smile face since we were given no context which was which and my dad reinforced that it didn't matter. I would beg to differ but nothing, everything the movie did was horrifying to beginning to end, thing was that the movie would stop at points saying a random number then "left" at some points but also showed brutal scenes where the child, the "protagonist", were killed but the footage looked like it rewind then the child just had this huge grin. it was just unsettling, the thing was that it also was pretty sad we learned about the world and god I wanna use this world building myself in dnd, but anyway we slowly learned why these monsters actually were sealed away in the mountains, which in the beginning of the movie it makes a conclusion that really is just has no bias meanwhile this stuff in the underground was that a monster *could* take a humans soul and be close to God level power. It was pretty interesting it sorta reminded me of avatar on a political level, but anyway one killing in the smile tape I didn't mind was the fish lady, the thing is that this was an actual challenge to the protagonist which was the killer child, and another thing was that the fish lady was as scary as the killer, she was a hero but also one of the few parts in the movie where the monster's are a full human actor so they're was so much flexibility as the kid fought them and all I saw was big scary woman trying to kill a kid but damn they had to have a stun double cause that kid was dodging and blocking almost everything. Now let's cut the chase the ending bit where you see the kid go against this skeleton that sorta looked like a wizard, I thought he was a joke but no he matched that kids energy and felt like he was talking to my mom and me directly especially with us being who he stared at, he said something along the lines, "You know you could've chosen something else or nothing else at all, heh, I would but you could've stopped too," and it felt weird like he was talking to me, I could've stopped the tape an hour in right? Not let all these characters die. But this part replayed a lot to where my mom went out to get her milk at the store and we were still at the same spot anyway we got passed it and the most chilling ending to the nightmare where we see the same actor child with a big grin it was just scary you knew it wasn't a kid by the energy felt like a demon. Rewatching this movie made me realize that this was hinted. Anyway after this we watched the star the next day I was scared as all hell but realized that it was a friendly movie where all the characters were befriended even the scary flower puppet at the end and even ar the credits the flower suggests not to play the movie ever again and I couldn't keep that promise obviously but I always watched the good ending, true ending, only thing that scared me was the creatures in the scientist lab but I knew they were friendly because they were people who were just scared and lonely down there. Oh but jeez the other skeleton was so weird, the tall skinny one, was just so friendly but odd and even went on a date with the protagonist which was gross and weird but he was pretty charming being a child himself mentally, still weird tho. Anywho I heard some people who are into ARG's found out about a secret named goners and gaster, sounded scary but I never ran across it ever. I will say it is a weird movie but very emotional so watch it Toby Foxion would be proud to see his odd movies gain traction.
The idea of it being divided into two different movies works so well honestly. Good job, I thoroughly enjoyed reading through this comment.
