- The latest iteration in the Fujifilm X100 series (VI) was announced today.
This video is based on information shared by Fujifilm in a non-disclosure session before the announcement and was embargoed until February 20, 2024 at 1AM. - Наука
Nice to see you back Maarten and as always another entertaining and informative upload.
Always nice to see your avatar among the comments, thanks for the kind words.
I had to free myself from the x100 culture (full disclosure - there's still a T the drawer). It was getting a bit crazy. I sold the V and got the XE4 and the 27mm. Except for the lack of stabilisation, I think it will be a bit more versatile - as long as I can avoid obsessing over the lenses. Good to see you !
Yes, more versatile, but not as stylish!
Be safe? I ate my memory card and almost choked on it. People do not realize how dangerous photography is.
I’m sorry to hear that. I blame the manufacturers for not putting sufficient warning labels etc. on their products. What were their lawyers thinking? Had you taken lots of food photos? How did it taste?
Get the Fuji XT4 with pancake lens. Or even XT3.
Also good options.
Glad you are a Fuji fan. Missed your videos.
Thanks. Hopefully more to come.
Yes! Maarten is on it! Sheesh, Fujifilm. The embargo is over. Give Maarten a review unit.
Thanks for the kind words and your support.
Such smart commentary
Thanks for your kind words
I love the concept of this little camera series for stills (I’m not a video shooter so I’ll ignore this); leaf shutter, built-in flash, very high flash sync speed, built-in ND filter, Fuji simulations, IBIS, manual controls, 50mm equiv. adapter option, weatherproof option, pocketable. Is the quality of the 40 mpx good enough to crop dramatically? If it is then this would be a real fun, every day camera to keep in the pocket. Taking inflation into account I think £1,600 is a fair initial asking price. Maarten, welcome back. I’m looking forward to your full review. Greetings from London.
Good analysis. Thanks for your kind words - greetings from Sint Maarten.
I have a dream and Leica have a nightmare : having this x100 vi with a 18mm (28mm full frame equivalent)… if this x100 vi-c is delivered one day I will buy one and Leica will see it’s selling of Q2 and Q3 divided by 10…. Wake up japonese fujifilm responsible you have a big opportunity to make a jewel here ;)
Interesting dream. Luckily my dreams don’t include math.
@@MaartenHeilbron :)
@@MaartenHeilbron An 'outside the box' competitor would be a fixed lens camera from Nikon - along the lines of the 28/35Ti they released back in the 1990's. They were nothing short of gorgeous. Base it on the zf or zfc internals.
Forget about Leica- way too expensive
I live in Japan and ordered the X100VI from a US website so I could save about 100,000 yen and it's coming soon! I have an X-T3 and an X-E3 so I know the 100VI will be pretty good...I do hope that it is at least as good as my a6100. Can't wait for your in-depth review!
I usually carry my Sony a7r3 wherever I go, but a light camera like this is really a daily driver and the built-in ND filter really speaks to me on cloudy days. The weight savings is also huge during a 30,000-step Tokyo day trip.
Very nice!
Wouldn't it be great to have a 'stripped back' photo-only ( non-hybrid OVF, fixed 28mm FoV f2.8 lens, 26MP) model in the line-up right about now - Say ($999 USD / $1195 CAD) - Call it the X70S :)
Thanks for the tip!
When I saw you had a video on the new X100, I figured you had scored a review unit. Well, I guess not. Hopefully, soon. But, you know what to look for, and your comments are well informed.
I came across a great 2017 image taken on the x100S just yesterday. They should reissue a slightly updated version of that unit.
Hopefully soon. Thanks for your kind words.
At the end of the day, you couldn't have 40 megapixels and not have stabilisation you would lead to a lot of problematic images you've seen before with cameras that are over 40 megapixels unless you hold the camera really still you are going to end up with blurry images the more megapixels camera has the more vulnerability is to showing up those faults so I support the fact that it has 40 megapixels and ibis I've used the XT5 now for about a year and a half and it is absolutely fantastic camera and essentially this is an XT5 compressed into X100 body .... Maybe it is going to too many megapixels, so I'm not sure but I know the XT5 produces amazing images and you give it a month when these cameras are actually out and about people are gonna be taking great photos and they won't care any more. I think it's just that initial shock. Oh my gosh 40 megapixels it's such a big jump from 26 but I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing I think overall the camera will be great but it's interesting. I wouldn't buy this camera over an XT5 I think XT5 is an amazing camera and it gives you the versatility of interchangeable lenses in a relatively compact body. Sure it's not as compact as the X100 series, but it's still pretty small in comparison to other cameras..... But if they didn't upgrade it to 40 megapixels and had stuck with the 26 then what possible upgrades could they have made? If they added ibis to a 26 megapixel camera everyone would've gone I don't need ibis. I'll just keep my other camera and it wouldn't sell very well so from a marketing perspective they had to make it a better camera. They had to put some juice in that engine so to speak otherwise no one would buy it and they wouldn't make money so you have to think of it from a marketing sales perspective that they wanted to soup this camera up and I don't blame them for that and I do think it will be a really good camera
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
Glad to see you back in the tube
Doing what I can, trying to be helpful.
I have lusted after and “threatened to buy” an X100 series camera virtually since its inception. Having never bought one (yet), I always took solace in having not done so when reading and seeing the reviews of subsequent iterations. And here we are with the “vi”. I’m not getting any younger. Looking forward to a “Heilbronian” review. Thank you.
Heilbron isn’t getting any younger either! Thanks for your kind words.
Great to see you uploading, looking forward to your thoughts once you get your hands on one.
Probably sticking w/my X100F, but the VI looks great.
Yes, I’m very interested to try it out.
I preordered the 6. Never owned a Fuji camera before. Oh wait maybe I did. When I was a teen I was gifted a cassette camera. A rather flat in shape rectangular little camera. Anyway, that’s such a long time ago that I forgot its name or type. Now I’m eager to try the newest entry from the X series. Oh, and I do own a Q2. I guess they can coexist.
Pretty sure they won’t get into a fight.
It’s good to see you again. I love my x100V and I don’t see any need to update to the sixth version. Although you are right with the video capabilities and that it’s already there, but it would have been great if Fuji have brought out an only photography x100 version.
Yes, I agree with that.
Of all people they didn't gave a sample camera to Marteen? Shame Fuji.
I’m sure it will arrive soon. They said that they should be in stores by the beginning of March.
Seems like a bargain, considering all you get with this camera and looks to match. More so because for this style of camera, there is no peer within a few thousand dollars
Well, that depends on what you consider a peer - but I agree with your assessment.
Interesting take. I'm curious what they will do with the Xpro series giving the frenzie for the X100VI.
We are both waiting to see what they'll do.
Maarten can’t wait for your review! Greetings from Scotland ……again!
Waiting patiently for the review units to arrive.
..love the Lego Roses... the V might be a better way to go... if you can find one
Yes, short supply still.
I want a camera that plays your intro jingle on startup. Good vid.
I’ll also take one! Thanks for your kind words.
Fuji destroyed this series of cameras. Soon no one will want to buy it.
I cannot agree with this statement.
Finally see you again. I’m waiting to see your review.
I’m hoping to get a review unit soon.
where are your videos missing
They’re all here, none are missing.
I was thinking of buying this but i'll wait for the xpro4
Could be a good option.
That'll be next year at the earliest according to Fuji Rumours.
I was happy to see you again on RUclips. I always enjoy your videos no matter the subject. I left Fuji a couple of years ago. I always had trouble sharpening X Trans files and the Fuji menu system to me was confusing. Even so I look forward to your full review.
Thanks for your kind words. What have you been using in the meantime?
I’m keeping my V! PS: How cool would a monochrome X100VI be? Acros+R with raw is my default setting so a dedicated B&W X100 would be perfect for me! 📷😄
Agreed, that would be a very attractive proposition.
The V has been out of stock in many areas for at least a year. There might be people that will upgrade their existing V but is the VI a significant enough upgrade to bother or for the extra expense? I have my doubts. The competition for this camera includes the Leica Q2 and Q3 which are far more expensive, the little Ricoh which is more compact and cheaper, the Sony A7CII which is amazing with interchangeable lens but a good bit more expensive with lens. So the Fuji may well not be too expensive for people wanting to have a semi-compact fixed focal length quality camera as a replacement for a much older model or as an extra camera. As long as they manage the volume to match the demand, they may well have another winner.
In the presentation they recognized the supply issues of the V and seem to be addressing them.
Lovely little video! I greatly look forward to seeing your review, although I already know the X100 that I want to find is the V. I think that it's the best of the bunch that is still made in Japan, for what that's worth. I had for a few months the X100t and thought it was very fun to shoot with. The only faults I could find were being a bit slow to turn on/shoot and moving the focus points wasn't as nice as with the newer fujis who have the dimple. Thanks for all your excellent and thoughtful content!
Thanks, a pleasure to read your kind comment.
Nice to see some color 👕
I think the best part about this release is seeing a bunch of scalpers left holding the bag.
I've spent the last year and a half watching people try to get 2500 (or more) CAD for V's with miles on them. That gravy train has stopped.
Hehe
Maarten, if I could...I do love my X100V and the one sore spot for me is the fact that not only is handheld video bad on it, it's UNUSABLE without some form of physical gimbal or post processed stabilization. I'm not out here making YT content or feature films, but I would LOVE to be able to record small vignettes of trips, scenes that strike me as they come, and be able to record a simple video, handheld of course, that is something I don't regret spending the SD space or battery life on. That is the promise of the VI, for me at least. Resolution? I could live without it. I will still use the VI as I do the V, a single shot, single AF point stills camera emulating my favorite film point and shoots for yesteryear...and now, I can use it for just a little bit more, too, and that's cool.
Sounds like you’ll be upgrading. I was so disappointed by the video on the V that I didn’t even include that aspect in my video. Maybe this makes it marginally suitable, particularly for occasional short “memory” recordings. If video is a need for you, even the VI isn’t a good choice.
@@MaartenHeilbron I will be buying one to be sure, but I will test it alongside the V to see if IBIS is worth the squeeze. Memory recordings is a great way to describe what I’m looking to get from it! I agree it’s not a camera that makes sense for serious video, the V-generation sensor was actually better in that regard for several reasons.
Alleluia 🎉
Thank you Maarten this news brightens my day!
Thanks for your kind words.
I can't wait for your review - it's always the most in depth!
Thanks, I appreciate your kind words.
He Maarten, cool Dutch name you got there
Yes, it makes my name fairly distinctive.
Not here! (in the Netherlands)
Or on the island Sint Maarten
Which is still part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands :D!@@MaartenHeilbron
Nice to see you. Awesome shirt. 💕
Thanks, kind words are always appreciated.
X t30 series is better. I don't understand reason of existing these camera
Sorry to hear. Many others do.
@@MaartenHeilbron x100 series has weak video quality and capabilities, less amount of lenses, hasn't it?
That is correct, I would not purchase this camera if video was important to me.
However, the lens selection is the same as other Fujifilm X-mount cameras.
Good to see you Maarten!
A pleasure to read your kind words.
hmmm - it's not for me. had they put the bigger battery and CF in I would be tempted. had they paired it right back to a pure stills camera I would be tempted. but it looks like they've gone for form over function and ended up with a sort of half-way house.
Both good suggestions. But they do make other cameras that suit those specs.
I think I'd have liked the X100 range to be more about pure stills photography. maybe even a mono edition?@@MaartenHeilbron
Had not thought about the SD vs CF card possible issue and so far I have seen nobody has addressed it yet. Having the XH2, among others, my only justification to get one would be portability. So I am on the fence leaning to no. I add not seen you in a bit. Love you fresh and competent approach, with a bit of surly humor!!
Yes, as I said, that would appeal to many photographers and make this style even more appealing.
Oooh! Surly humour - may I use that as a hashtag? ;-)
cheers Maarten i
Thanks for your kind words.
Glad the X100 VI has IBIS. The GRiii squeezed anIBIS unit in their tiny body several years ago.
Mask On Nurse Marty(Ret)
Good point.
At price i'm thinking just getting the Sony a6700. While i don't need 40mp at least i can change lens. Also the autofocus is yet to be seen
If you consider 23mm a limitation, then this camera is not for you.
