If you look closely at Slico's desk, you'll see a bunch of decorations made by her. Like an ashtray and coffee mug with her monkeys on them. He does see her as his daughter.
I seen this series so many times and didn't notice his desk like that to put all that together lol thank you for that. This is the show that keeps on giving!
Of course Silco cares for Jinx. To use the words of Sevika, "she's like his daughter". He's raised and cared for her as his own since the night she flew into his arms.
Yeah, Jinx is fucking terrifying. Caitlyn wasn't mad, she was heartbroken. She was doing what all people do after they get broken up with; replay what happened in her mind and wonder what she could've said or done differently. Wishing she could turn back time and try again. How she could've convinced her to stay. Caitlyn is going through that classic "first break-up" sort of heartbreak.
Another important to thing to note is that she replays the moment Vi says "Oil and Water". BUt that's not true is it? What colour are Vi and Cait? Red and Blue? What else is red and blue? Blood and water, two things that DO mix, just like we see Cait's blood mixing with the water in the shower.
Hey! Notice how Viktor went from failing to keep up with his boat in his flashback to running alongside the boat in the background on this episode? I love those type of callbacks.
I’m so glad you understand Mel more now! I’ve always been intrigued by her but the look into her upbringing & struggle got me to really appreciate her. Not to mention she’s absolutely gorgeous. ☀️
My only slight nitpick with arcane is that Mel’s character development seems a little sudden. I agree having her be from Noxus makes her much more nuanced and interesting, but in eps 2-6 she just seems like someone using Jayce for her own selfish goals, but suddenly it turns out she was somewhat good this whole time. Makes her a much better character sure but the change just feels a little fast
@@Wryyyyyyyyyyyyu Seems like while she was corrupting Jayce that some of Jayces goodness was rubbing off on Mel. Mels short term goal with Jayce was to consolidate power. Get Jayce on the council. Get the greedy council members fortunes to depend on Jayce. Then wield influence over Jayce. As long as she controls Jayce then she can control the entire council. But it works both ways. If Jayce can get Mel to agree with him then he can control the council. We see this when Jayce gets Heimerdinger kicked off the council. Once Mel agrees then it's a done deal.
Watching Viktor run for the first time actually brought me to tears the first time i saw it, after having gone through an injury and being unable to walk for half a year you don't realize how much you take it for granted and to see him experience that for the presumably first time was phenomenal!
Very well said! I live with a walking disability similar to Viktor's and that scene made me feel a LOT of things. Although that's basically every scene in this freaking masterpiece of a show 😊
For me that was the most beautiful scene in movies/series in general for the year 2021. That scene hit me so much, exactly because of the reasons you mentioned. thanks for wording it that way
I wouldnt say Silco manipulated Jinx. Since the beginning the very 1st moment they met, he saw himself in her and took her in then grew this father daughter relationship during those years. From a strategic standpoint, Sevika aint wrong. Jinx is a clicking time bomb it was in no way in Silco's interest to keep her so if he was really manipulating her he would've got the sound judgement of not using her at all.
Still... When Powder leapt into Silcos arms at the end of Episode #3 She was useless to him. He didn't devise a 7 year plan on the spot that involved the possibility that some day she would be his ultimate weapon against Piltover. He took her in because he saw himself in her. Weak and betrayed by someone they trusted.
Silco doesn't force the children. He has a way of speaking to people that makes them believe in him. The bad guy leaders conference wasn't even forcing them to do anything. He literally just reminded them why they are fighting the fight. Silco may be "bad" in a perfect society but to a bunch of people who have nothing, he seems to be a solution to them and they are willing to put themselves in danger for that small hope.
to add to this: from the underground world building that we get from arc 1 and the enemy music video, it seems like children work when they can - milo, claggor, vi, and powder for vander, ekko for benzo, the other gang kids for silco. it makes sense: if there's no school or guarantee that your parents live long enough to support you, then getting a job both provides you with money, some learning, and a way to not get in too much trouble. also if you're gonna get a job, getting one from the top dog with everyone in his pocket at a factory for which the product is always going to be in demand is not a bad idea.
'A series of unfortunate events' does indeed sum up this series well. And the way it's laid out makes it seem logical, almost inevitable; one set of actions leads to other actions and consequences, which leads to more and more. As Lax mentioned, I understand where the characters are coming from and why they think, act, and speak the way that they do. And yes, Silco does care for Jinx, quite a lot, in fact. Silco is a terrible person in a lot of ways, no denying that, but he's not a stereotypical, card carrying villain; no one in this show is. They all have people and ideals they care about, dreams they're trying to accomplish, goals they strive for, etc. They're all people, with all the flaws, quirks, and problems that come with that.
Love your reactions! Definitely one interpretation of last episode but I think Jinx’s last act was more about herself then taking out Ekko. I think she knew Ekko would be able to get away. You can see it in her eyes, she’s given up, she’s too far gone, she’s fighting her friend. She wants to die.
Yes, Silco manipulated Jinx. He still loves her like a daughter. Basically all parents attempt to manipulate their children to a greater or lesser degree.
Silco sees himself in Jinx the only difference is that Jinx can fight which makes Silco like her even more because Silco isn't a fighter. Like many parents would do, influencing their children to achieve the things that they weren't available to achieve, Silco is also doing the same.
@@robertcampbell8070 Not just that. Personally for me to classify something as manipulation would need outright ill-intent or atleast some form of subversion.
Idk why you are surprised that Silco loves Jinx? like he raised her and sees her as his actual daughter and has always been very calm and soft for only her but i am glad u finally realised that! if you look at his desk it has for example an ash tray that his jinx’s drawings on it and he values those
Apparently you missed alot of signs from SIlco/Jinx father daughter thing.... Alot of this things are painted by her in his office... Go back and check his table and even background things .. Hell in Episode 6 they have the mug she made for vander at the Last Drop she uses..... Episode 7 he only cared to try to find her and even when she hurt him... He was just glad to have her back
Its rough for vi at the council because she has a vendetta. She doesnt give a single fk about the politics. Or the implications of what she wants. But it makes sense for her. Also that scream from victor is beautiful. No happiness. Not sadness. Just pure raw emotion.
For the most part I don’t get the take silco manipulates jinx, because what is he manipulating her to do ? Hate Pilltover ? She already did. Silco was told vi was dead so he didn’t lie about her until she came back to when he actually cared for her and probably feared losing her (not saying it’s ok to lie to her ever) at worst he radicalised her which is obviously terrible but I don’t think it took much to do.
Totally agree. He didn't do anything to her that he wasn't doing to himself. He cared for her from the first moment he hugged her and told her "It's okay".
AND... When it comes to Vi, Silco only knows what he's seen and what Powder told him. In his eyes Vi smacked up Powder and left her in the street to die next to Vanders corpse. When he finds out that Vi is back, 7 years later, it could be that Silco actually does think he's protecting JInx by taking care of the Vi problem in a low key way.
Exactly what I'm thinking. I imagine people just casually interchange "manipulate" with "had a bad influence on", which is still debatable but makes more sense
You're just simply the best at reactions Lax haha. You just let it all out and keep it authentic man. So much fun to see you being invested into all of these characters and understanding every side of the story. It is really a masterpiece in motion it's insane how good this story is and on top of that how good the animations and art design is in general. Man, I'm sad that this is over with the next Episode, but I'm soo so soo happy that you reacted to Arcane at all. I never thought about it at all tbh, but I'm glad you did and hoping for a quick release of Season 2 and you reactions to it hahaha
i'm glad you finally see that Silco does actually love and care for Jinx.. i've been wanting to say something ever since you were saying that he's manipulating her, but i wanted you to see it for yourself. But also, the fact that Silco never once scolded nor hurted Jinx no matter how many times she messed up and brings trouble to his plans would've been proof enough
Lax my understanding of the end of the jinx ekko fight is ekkos pause legit made jinx smile because he showed he still cared for her and she did not play him with the bomb, she gave up is my take and how they both survived is you can hear ekko kick the grenade before it goes off
Something I like to point out when I see reactors who are surprised that Silco genuinely cares about Jinx is the fact that those two feel the exact same type of pain. The pain of betrayal, the pain of abandonment, Silco is clearly a manipulative figure in this story but in episode 3 when he found her and took her, that wasn't his ploy to raise a foot soldier to do his bidding, that was a genuine moment where he saw in a lost little girl the same pain he's felt since that night with Vander, a pain he's never shared with anyone else in his life before meeting her. Silco genuinely cares for her and always has.
From the beginning Silco has cared for Jinx, loved her and even pampered her. If you didn't see it in these 8 chapters, then you haven't understood anything about the relationship of these two. Jinx on the other hand always tried to prove his worth, he did it with his sister, as well as with Silco, the different thing is that Silco took advantage of Jinx, because even though she was crazy, she was useful to him. I recommend you to watch the series again, a lot of people still don't understand the relationship between these two. They both loved each other as father and son, but their environment and their motivations didn't show it at all.
Jinx, in no way shape or form tried to play ekko. That's not what happened at the end of that episode. What you have at the end of that episode is a man realizing in real time that he is just made a mistake that he can never undo. He realized that Jinx is complicated, she's not this heartless monster that he tried to convince himself she was. He realized that his friend never left, she just changed. And in that moment Jinx realize that he accepted her for who she was. But ultimately, she is scared anything further she does will cause more harm to those she loves and that's why she lifts the grenade roll out of her hand for her to die on her own terms and gives ekko time to get away. The beautiful part though, there's a lot that points to echo being the one that saves her by hearing the ping right before the explosion which is likely that echo kick the grenade away. This would explain his messed up ankle when we see him later on, and it would explain why silco finds Jinx on the bridge in a different position then she was when we saw her as well as a smudged bit of soot on her face that wasn't there before
I don't think she played him. I think he played himself. He used his memory of the game they'd play as kids to remember her firing pattern and then exploited it to beat her as adults. But in a twist, him remembering who she used to be, caused him to "see" Powder instead of Jinx. And he couldn't follow through with pummeling her. She saw it too, and gave him a small, regretful smile, and then pulled the pin - just giving up. I think she was just trying to end it... Thats how I saw it at least.
I will agree with you that Jinx is too far gone now, but right up until the bridge scene, when Vi crossed the bridge and left her, Vi could have gotten through to her. What happened on the bridge determined everything else, so yes. At this point there's no gong back.
I think you are the only straight man reactor who got caitlyn and vi liked each other (yes it is obvious but nost straight reactors overlook it for some reason)
Silco really doesn't manipulate her but enables her darkest impulses. For Ekko if you listen closely you can hear a ding before the explosion suggesting he knocked it away which saved him and Jinx's life.
Silco definitely "cares" about Jinx. But only Jinx. But its weird possessive type of love. He would never just let her be Powder and be with her sister if it meant she would be happy. He's gonna change and manipulate her and turn her into a monster. Because that's what Silco does, he makes monsters.
Let her be Powder? I dunno man. Vi is the one who won't let Jinx be Jinx. Powder only makes Jinx miserable. When Jinx is Jinx, she's happy. Evil, yes, but happy. A villainous daughter for a villainous father. I think attributing all of Jinx's actions to Silco removes Jinx's agency and makes her a weaker character. Even as a child, Powder wanted nothing more than to make horrendous weapons to destroy her enemies, be they punks chasing after her or enforcers.
If you look closely at Slico's desk, you'll see a bunch of decorations made by her. Like an ashtray and coffee mug with her monkeys on them. He does see her as his daughter.
