I like a lot of what Cam said, but I unequivocally disagree with the comments about putting himself on their level. That's exactly where the problems start in our community. Whether in Bankhead or Buckhead all of these young men need to be taught respect for their elders and themselves. It goes hand in hand. If it was good for Cam's father to teach it to him, he needs to pass it on to them. That teaching helped make the man he is today. They need to see young leaders teaching respect. We gotta perpetuate the good lessons and characteristics that brought us to where we are.
Their fathers need to do that. Not a professional athlete. That is the problem with the community. People that are supposed to be doing their job are not doing it and expecting some saviour to come and do it for them.
I agree the father has this responsibility first, but you've missed the point. We're not talking about their fathers because a large number of them don't have a strong father in their life. Are we to give up on teaching them anything and throw them away? In this case, we're talking specifically about someone in the profession in which they want to succeed. They need to see the example in that profession so they know this is the right way to do it. For those that have great fathers in their lives it would just confirm the example they've grown up seeing at home.
Sometimes you have to forget the talking and let people realize that I'm a man just like you. I bleed like you bleed and I feel like you feel. No amount of money can change that.

My mom was a guest preacher at his dad's church. His folks, brothers and he was there. Very warm and humble family. The funny thing is I didn't realize until after the fact that Cam Newton and his toddler son we're sitting behind me or that it was his father's Church. For me, I believe Cam was one of the better quarterbacks during his time on the field. Off the field, I believe he's even bigger! I like his swag and perspective on things. A lot of people didn't think Cam was a good quarterback, but I for one wish he would try out for the Raiders. I believe he's BETTER than any quarterback that's currently on our roster.
