I love this! Just done a batch. Waiting for the eggs to cook. I've been using this technique for a few years now, nothing is as easy and as beautiful! Happy Easter ❤

It works b/c the dye used on silk dyes animal protein - it is set with acid; there are different dyes that work on plant matter they are set with base. Given the warning labels on Acid Dyes I won't eat the eats. The dyes I buy for dying wool actually say the pot will not longer be food safe.

I am from Germany and i have never heard of this technique. its so creative though. :) but since we use hard boiled eggs and color those it would be kinda of a waste of ties, since they get eaten. but if you do it for decor, its awesome :)

Martha could this be done with blow egg. If the egg is hung across the pan on a piece of string so it doesn't touch the side or bottom.

if you are not going to eat these you can put a thin coat of lear or spray varnish and they will last a very long time...

If any woman even tried cutting up my silk ties, she would be in a lot of trouble. Maybe that's why I choose to remain single. My ties are safe, hehe!

Yes, you can use it 2-3 times with most. Just depends how much dye is left.

I would not eat the eggs. Silk dyes aren't edible.

Do you eat the eggs, If not, what a waste of food. I am from Denmark and we also colour eggs for easter, but we blow them out first and uses the white and yolk for food purpose. And we can save those eggs we like for next year. And cutting up silk just to use for this, when there are so many other options for dyeing eggs, no matter if it is old shirts or not, you either have to much time or money....... :(
