  • This 1967 Corvette Roadster Hardtop was built by George Haddad of Fabulous Restorations for owner Richard Erens. To stretch the 427 Chevy big block's legs, they took it out to the Historic Trans Am race at Sebring and had driver Kerry Hitt take it for a few laps.
Here's some of the photos and video from a high-revving day.
For more information, please head to www.fabulousrestorations.com.

Looking out across that hood on that track sure brings back memories. I miss those days.
    Now to the important stuff.
This is NOT an original one of twenty 1967 Corvette L88. It is a tribute car built by George Haddad. It is an incredible car, done as close as anyone is ever going to get, so it is worth a lot of money, but it isn't an original. If he crashes it, his pocket will hurt BUT history is not lost.
It sounds like he is geared all wrong. When I ran anything there that shifted under 7000, I ran either a 3.70 or 3.55 rear. I only ran the 4.11 with the 9000 rpm 302. Around Big Bend (2:27), I was over 160 and 8000 rpm, and you won't get there with a 6500 rpm motor and a 4.11. He will hit a max of around 130 mph. Now if he isn't running at 6500 the whole time, but something more like 5500, then he is running about 107 mph, much slower than everything else.
Don't criticize the driver Kerry Hitt. He has about 130 professional race starts in Trans Am and others. Granted, some made it into professional series with cubic dollars, but those guys rarely stayed. I don't know him, don't remember seeing him race, so I won't judge. This looks like just a chance to exercise the car.
Also, most of vintage racing originally was just to put old race cars on the track at speed, rather than sitting in static displays, but in the last 25 years or so, many are really racing them, as most are not really old race cars but new race cars built from old cars.
Some of those guys on the track think they are going to make an impact by being fast in vintage racing. If they were fast, they would be in the real racing series.
Removal of the Hairpin and putting in that Indy curve 2:42 has really messed up the character of Sebring.

Read the description, he's actually breaking in the whole car after a fresh resto. It's a cool way to do it, but they could have found a MUCH better driver and they never should have put it on that track with actual race cars. The title of the vid was very misleading.

Driver sucks but if it's a real 67 L88, it's worth near 3 million dollars. It's just too rare. I had a 67 427, but not the true legend.

I understand peddling that car given it’s value....you don’t want to be an idiot and wad up a good car....but why not let it “eat” on a clean straight? I have a 63 340hp I don’t treat that gently.....

Blueprinted stock L88s have been dynoed consistently between 540 and 580 horsepower. Notice how it says "Est.", and further down it says "12.8 to 1 pistons", the stock L88s were 12.5 and they don't give any actual cam specs, so it's probably an aftermarket cam. So who knows what the real output is.
