- In this tutorial we will be painting four Starry night celestial skies. Starting with the background and then each silhouette style from easiest to most challenging:
Rock 1: Forest Sky with owl & shooting star
Rock 2: Forest Deer with full moon
Rock 3: Moonlit Ocean
Rock 4: Ocean with shooting star reflection

Could you use sponges to apply base coats instead of paper towels?
Yes I think that would work well. The reason I used the paper towel was because I found it left a little more white texture for the stars. Also because most people have paper towel. But it’s not necessary :)
What kind of brush are you using?
I was using brushes from a craft store called Michaels. For the large brush the bristles are soft and fine, it helps to get a smooth surface without streaks. For the silhouettes and shooting stars I use very small fine tipped brushes. It helps if they are a bit longer so there is more time between dipping in more paint and I find easier to make curved lines and thin tree branches :)
