Not to mention my playlist of covers on my phone. I have never, in all my life, been so moved by someone's voice and musical abilities. The world is a more beautiful place, audibly AND visibly, with you in it. Thanks for making such beautiful music.
P.S....I have been in remission from Aml (Leukemia) for 8 years. If I ever have to go thru that hell on Earth again, you could come sing to me/with me, and Im sure it would be better medicine than any chemo or...plant...anywhere. ;)

there is nobody quite like hozier. nobody sings quite like he does. nobody can capture the style in his music that is so him and not anyone else's. he is unmistakable. he is flawless.
Like once upon a time Jeff Buckley , who sadly put out on albulm , then drowned in the Mississippi River in Tennessee in 97.... Noone could or can sing like him , either..... Ive liked Hozier since I first heard him, reminded me of vocalist from the 90s, who just cant be duplicated. I was ahhhh Thank you God , another great , more than great vocalist. .. we needed one!

Definitely! It makes me realize how little talent a lot of popular artists have. I don't say that to trash them. We can't all be Hozier. They can hit the notes (some use autotune) and the songs are catchy but it's all background music. You put it on to avoid silence. You put Hozier's music on to listen to it. Other things are distractions.

His voice is powerful but there's a certain...... sadness and vulnerability to it that adds a whole extra layer to his singing. I think that's really what sets him apart

Man-- I never realized how dark these lyrics are.
Funny thing is that the dark nature of the lyrics in the intro to the song was one of the first things I noticed in this song.
It's also the way that he is singing in that makes it sound so dark
I had to sing this for an assembly in year 5 (9 years old!) I thought it was inappropriate for kids my age. I still agree with that over a decade later. Nice tune tho

I love when songs can do that. Sound really upbeat and fun during the first listen but once you start paying attention to the words it takes on a more ominous or sad tone. Hozier's Jackie and Wilson has similar vibes.
I heard someone compare him to the late Jeff Buckley. Hozier's voice is amazing, so clear and perfect pitch. I would love to hear him cover a Buckley song like, Lover, you Should've Come Over.

You know, in all my RUclips searching for Hozier stuff (and there has been a LOT of searching..haven't quite sated my obsession just yet) I've run across the listing for this video many times, but never really watched it all the way through because I wasn't that huge a fan of the original, but Jesus Christ on a crutch, is this phenomenal!! The inflection in his voice, especially in the higher, softer notes just give me the chills. And I wholeheartedly agree with sweetcurves79 that he could sing the Cheesecake Factory menu and I would also turn into a puddle of goo. :-)
Exactly my thoughts. I have avoided this cover for months because the original is in my 'irritation zone' but when I finally got to it, I realised I should have had more faith in Hozier being able to turn this song into something fantastic! I never payed attention to the lyrics before, but when he sings it you HAVE to pay attention and you realise there's actually a story behind it! That's what makes him such and oustanding musical talen!
