It's a crime that this isn't on spotify
I looked so hard, I even prayed that shit would be there. Life is cruel, but this song makes it better.
@@cainhorton5440 it's on a podcast called unreleased hozier

@@SirKaison the original definitely isn't better, and that's coming from a VM fan.
Just saw hozier in concert last night... he is the sweetest man. He thanked everyone who did the lighting and staging and sound and everything individually by name, as well as the people he was on tour with and the local artist he had open for him. then he thanked us for watching. It was so heartfelt and sweet. He is surprisingly soft-spoken when he's not rocking out; he's really the sweetest man.
That is the cutest and most attractive thing ever how does he manage to be so devastatingly hot and cute at the same time
You could say he is a sweet thing
@Ophelia sweet thing............
I saw him live twice and I cried so much
Where did you see him play? I went to the November 2019 show in Verona NY and caught myself tearing up several times♡
I am grateful to be alive at the same time Hozier is around.
Amen

I share your sentiment❤
I swear to anything; if Hozier did a cover of the freakin' alphabet or a nursery rhyme it'd be a spiritual experience that touches the atoms of your soul. 😅
I’m a lifelong Van Morrison fan, but man, Hozier’s version is amazing.
@VertrauenNiemand13 true
@Sarah’s Suitcase 😈 It is beautiful. Enjoy.
It’s DRASTICALLY better than the original, and I do not say that lightly.
It's OK to love both : )
I'm glad he, Hozier, decided to share his gift of voice and music making with the world. I too am a lover of Van. I hope he feels honored that his craft has influenced the younger generation.
Im getting married to this song tomorrow. Cant wait to see my wife to be walk down the aisle to this song!
The memory will last with me forever!
Haha, how did it go? I can imagine it was a great scene.
+Yago Crispim It was awesome... Best day of my life so far! Waaay better than when i got He-Man for my 8th birthday. :)

+oODubKiwiOo this songs pretty good but marry it? that's weird.

I never thought anyone could touch the original Van Morrison’s “Sweet Thing.”
But I have never heard anything as beautiful and soulful as this. I’m still floored. Slayed. Stunned. Dead on the ground. Let’s play it again!
We still have it on repeat!
@@NakedNoiseUK then put it on Spotify 👀
I like it better than the Van Morrison one!

Me too, Sue, and l'm 65 years old and have been listening to and gleaning solace from dear Van for over three decades, but this young man takes the cake on this one.
Jeff Buckleys cover is great as well. Totally different styles
I have watched this video an embarrassing amount of times in the last 24 hrs. I just want to live in the feeling of this song always.
I want to live in the feeling of this song.... That's beautiful. Me too
This cover is completely stunning. Music is so lucky to have him.
well said, his voice is one of a kind, and feels like a soul album from the 50s... and he's even better live, I can't comprehend what I'm listening too
+Boas Therkildsen You got it. :)
amen!
:)
Robyn Neath Hes amazing. I knew he would make it big.
I firmly believe Hozier is a male syren and you can't change my mind. If I heard him sing in the middle of the sea you bet I'm going to jump in. At least I'll die happy :)
Except there would be no death. You'd in fact have unexpectedly been lead to meet your life.
after his reading of Orpheus and Euridice, i watched it on Ted-Ed, an animated version. And they had some animated guy singing in the background. And I was like: wait...this voice should be Andrew's. Anything else just sounds wroooong
I'm a straight male and I'd jump in for his voice. Dude straight up sounds like an angel.
I can swim.
I'd happily jump to my death 😅
I'm old, The Beatles, CSN&Y, are my bands. I rarely am interested in a new voice, but Hozier is like silk to my soul. I did not know I needed him. I believe in the wonders of the earth when he sings. My brain opens doors long closed and I float out.
Beautifully put. Vans words Hozier’s voice touch the deepest parts of my old soul.
Thank you for saying exactly what I feel when I listen to this
Oh my are u a poet by professio
Exactly!
My feeling as well!
I’ve been listening to this on repeat for four years now

Glad to know I'm not the only one.

Same!! I wish he'd put it on tidal or spotify 😭
You might need a break. I'll take over from here.
normally Morrison cover is a treacherous, dishonest, brutal act. but WTF… this is phenomenal. Hozier's range is truly remarkable.

Lyrics:
I will stroll the merry way and jump the hedges first
I will drink clear clean water for to quench my thirst
I'll go watch the ferry-boats and I'll get high
On the bluer ocean against the waters sky
I will walk and talk in gardens all wet with rain
I will never ever ever grow so old again
Oooh good God you're a sweet thing
Oooh good God you're a sweet thing
I shall drive my chariot down - your streets and cry
Hey it's me tonight I'm dynamite and I don't know why
You shall take me strongly in your arms again
And I still wonder if I ever felt the pain
We shall walk and talk in gardens all misty wet with rain
And I shall never, ever, ever grow so cold again
Oooh good God you're a sweet thing
Oooh good God you're a sweet thing
I shall raise my hand up into the night, to the night sky
And count the stars that are shining in your eye
Just to dig it all and not to wonder that would be fine
You're satisfied not to read in between the lines
Oooh good God you're a sweet thing
Oooh good God you're a sweet thing
Oooh my my my my my sweet thing
Oooh good God

How can a person be so talented, good looking, charming, smart... all at the same time?
8 years strong. Still a weekly listen for me. Thanks 🙏
This seals the deal. Hozier is a treasure. He celebrate his 25th birthday on St. Paddys Day, March 17th, but he sounds like he's lived a thousand lifetimes. Long life, Hozier.
+Chris Wolf Yes! And I was so lucky to be there for it! Oh what a night it was!
Yesss! (My son & daughter in law's wedding date 2019) This is perfect 💚💚)
This is probably the greatest acoustic performance ever

not sayin that this is the best, purest and most perfect cover anyone has ever done of any song in the history of cover songs but it actually is so
Sweet baby Jesus...
Hozier has made a total fangirl out of me and I'm way too old for that. Good God, you're a sweet thing...
I was having the same thoughts, April. The last time I was bitten THIS hard by the fangirl bug was in the 80's with Boy George, when I was a teenager and such things are expected of you. Ah well....*I've* come to terms with my obsession and am just going with it. Whatever gets us through the day, right? :-)
Taarna1969
My obsession is unhealthy. LOL. I'm *almost* old enough to be his mom.
Don't worry April - I am more than old enough to be his mom and I can't get enough! Saw him live a few weeks ago - so thankful!
I have tickets to see him in June. I can't wait!!
Lucia Rooney I'm right there with you, Lucia....I'm also more than old enough to be his mom and it hasn't slowed me down a bit. (And my husband fully supports my obsession, which the 1,253,756th reason I love him so) Which got me wondering what his fan base demographic is like? I've seen a great deal of comments on RUclips from we, ehm, more *seasoned* ladies as well as a great deal of younger gals, which is mildly surprising to me...didn't think a younger crowd would appreciate all the blues influences and amazing turns of phrase in his lyrics, for instance. What was the crowd like at the concert you went to?
Who's still here enjoying this in 2023 truly timeless
2024*
2024 still listening ❤
2024 I love this man
2024. 💚 He is a gem; a true international treasure.
Yup since the beginning. Now it’s 2024 😱
Everything Hozier touches turns to gold...obsessed with that voice
Discovering this song is the best thing that happened to me this year
whats my kink? my kink is hozier doing an acoustic set in a church
🙏
I’d hardly call that a kink
are you even real
sunny but are you?
bird33mchale32 I’m fine, thanks. Is someone actually going to answer back something that is not gibberish?
His voice has an old soul. Makes me really smile. I love watching his fingers as he plucks his guitar. Beautiful hands besides his voice, the face isn't bad either
Voice of an Angel ✌
he's perfect anyway
Hello all, it's been 10 years since I've commented on anything. This morning while my boys were playing PS3 before school I watched VH1 and Take Me to Church came on. I was floored. Something about the feeling, I guess my some call it soul music is cause it hammered mine. And then I found this. Tears came to my eyes. If he ever covered Stoned Me by Van Morrison, I would probably cancel the day.
Or if he covered into the mystic....I'd cancel the whole week.
I am a HUGE Van Morrison fan and have never liked a cover until this one. I have never heard anyone due him justice til this gorgeous and talented man...well done
"Huzzah"!!!
When you listen to his songs you can tell that singing comes insanely natural to him. He does it so smoothly, it sounds like a lot of effort but when you watch him it's like nothing. Truly one of the best musicians I have heard in a very long time.
This song feels like coming home into the arms of your love after a long day. It feels like peace.
hozier makes everything okay.
what? this is great, i agree on that. But the original song is miles above this. So, this song is not great because of Hozier. Get your shit together bro
I like this version more, everyone has their own taste.
yeah I'm a huge Van Morrison fan, and I'm not ever super keen on covers. But he does a phenomenal job, I like it more than the original.
I am a huge Van Morrison fan...I have listened to him since I was a kid (30+ years) because my parents were also big fans. This is by far my favorite Van Morrison song. Hozier does a good cover, and I think he's a good artist. But, I have to agree Dany Silva....no one - I mean no one - can do it like my main man VM.
bicooo1 mmm
Been coming back to this for 6 years and dont plan on stopping anytime soon
There’s not a reason to stop. Coming back to this, I mean.
Ever song he sings he does justice his range is crazy it's seriously out of this world his voice is so soulful and rich and glorious this man is majestic he oozes pure talent and I can't say it enough 99% of the time I literally cry listening to him because his voice is so beautiful you can feel him in your soul when he sings and gah he's so beautiful it's so rare now in days to find pure raw talent like this he's so original and he just does his own thing and it works it truly works for him more people like Hozier should be recognized instead of the artist that only sing meaningless songs about ass drugs sex and money
Sherrieluvs1d SOOO TRUE! I love his music and lyrics, but sometimes I think just his voice will do it for me just as fine.
Sherrieluvs1d absolutely agree. There's a pure, raw nature about him and his music. It's just very soulful.
Plus: His music seems to be different from everything I know and still it feels likes it's always been part of my life.
It's been 9 months since I posted this comment I still feel the same I've Also been to three concert my first July 28th Hozier was my first concert and I am so happy he was because it was such a magical day and I loved it he sounds even better live people I tell you I in editors broke down when I pulled up because he started singing and he was just absolutely amazing I can't ding worlds that's give his voice justice
Lol kinda close to two years later and guess who still feels the same about Hozier? ME!
Sherrieluvs1d I love your updates 😂
So glad to see someone finally got him to that church
there is a certain magic in this performance... I can’t even begin to describe it (and I bet Andrew himself wouldn’t be able to either). He has an immense gift in that he can put such emotion into every phrase/intonation... he is such a talent. we’re lucky to have him
I would describe it as spiritual.
@@MyLovelyDeadFriends agree.
2019 anyone? Listening to this for years... I just hope someone will love me the way Morrison felt when he wrote this.

Simply amazing.
2020!
2020 baby,. he's still hot and now reading poetry and stories on instagram during the pandemic. it makes it much better.
The lyrics aren't the original here, for anyone who was wondering about the lyrics for his version:
I will stroll the merry way
And jump the hedges first
I will drink clear, clean water
For to quench my thirst
I go watch the ferry-boats
And I get high
On the bluer ocean
Against the water’s sky
And I will walk and talk
In gardens all wet with rain
I will never, ever, ever, grow so old again
Oh good god you’re a sweet thing
Oh good god you’re a sweet thing
I shall guide my chariot
Down your streets and cry
Hey, it's me tonight, I'm dynamite
And I don't know why
You shall take me strongly in your arms again
I lie still wonder if I ever felt the pain
We shall walk and talk
In gardens all misty, wet with rain
And I shall never, ever, ever grow so old again.
Oh good god you’re a sweet thing
Oh good god you’re a sweet thing
I shall raise my hand up into the night, into the night sky
And count the stars
That are shining in your eye
Just to dig it all and not to wonder
That would be fine
And satisfied not to read in between the lines
Oh good god you’re a sweet thing
Oh good god you’re a sweet thing
Oh, my-my, my, my-my sweet thing
Oh good god
thank you!!

Oh Hozier you are a sweet thing. Can't wait for Unreal Unearth to unravel slowly, his music is so transcendental like I'm stuck in a dream.
God, if I had this man's voice, I would never shut up

Firstly nothing can surprise me easily, secondly I do NOT waste praise, but this guy made me feel alive just with one song! My pulse has accelerates as a rocket when I hear his voice!
A Hozier cover album of just Van Morrison songs would be timeless
and a Van Morrison covering Hozier album
I would love to hear him cover "Into the Mystic" by Van Morrison.
Omg YES

I’m head over heels in love with Andrew. He is a beauty
i dont think i know enough words in the english language to describe how much i love hozier. this is such a great cover with such a specific vibe.
It takes true grit to cover Van Morrison. Not a task many at all are fit for. This is a very powerful cover of an amazing song
I think I've been watching this video at least once a day for the last 2 years. Jesus. THAT FREAKING VOICE!
My dad, God bless him, turned me on to Van when I was about 13 and I fell so in love. I generally think covers of his sings are a terrible idea, but this literally brought tears to me eyes about halfway through, pure joy. Andrew is a gift. :)
So achingly pure and beautiful!
Wow... easily my fav Van Morrison song (besides Into the Mystic), and I previously thought it uncoverable... Hozier brings the chills just as good as Van, and adds his own flavor. SO impressed! Hozier is an amazing new Irish talent straight from Van's pedigree, with all the poetry, melancholy, and soul that comes with it. Hope he puts out music for many years to come, I will be listening!

As a lesbian, that’s relatable
it's totally fascinating how some people can turn people, who thought their whole lives they are super straight, way on the gay side. As if this social construct of being into the opposite sex didn't matter anymore because only this person matters, I think it's beautiful. Kinda wish I could ever experience it in real life
Ain't no such thing within a 100mile radius of him
I honestly can't stop listening to this song. His voice is majestic...
Love your version . It is our 30th Anniversary today. I will play it for my wife. She is the one I choose for the rest of my life. And I will walk and talk in gardens, all wet with rain
And I will never, ever, ever, ever grow so old again Release this song. VAN MORRISON IS A LEGEND. THIS IS A FINE TRIBUTE TO SUCH A GEM. CATCH YOU IN NYC.
Hozier's cover of "Sweet Thing" is brilliant... can't stop watching it and listening to him....
I cannot say enough good things about this guy!! His voice is unique and soo special, his covers are better than the originals, but his own music will become iconic I am sure. He is FANTASTIC in concert (saw him recently in NYC) and going to see him again in Nashville next year! He is THAT GOOD!! Also wanna say I had the pleasure of meeting him and he couldn't have been friendlier or nicer!! MUCH LOVE FOR THE TRULY TALENTED HOZIER!!!
I wouldn't say it's better than the original, he has a voice that is unique though. He did also make the song his own. So I love it none the less.
i usually cringe at covers, this makes van morrison less ... this truely beautiful, i love hoziers hands
Man, I came into this with a closed mind thinking it'd be an abomination to one of the most important and favorite songs of my lifetime. But seriously, this is incredible and a true nod to the great Van Morrison. One of the best covers of any song by any person I've ever heard. Simply well done.

Since I consider myself Van Morrison’s biggest fan and I can appreciate this great rendition...
i would sell my soul to hear this song for the first time again
My God I love everything about this statement
My favourite moment is 2:43, there something primal in the way he goes down half a tone on "sky". This is such joy
This is the only cover that does this song justice. Pure soul
No, pretty good cover (I only just found out this Hozier chap) but you clearly haven't heard Jeff Buckley's.
Matthew Edgeworth Waterboys do the best version...by a long stretch
E Kennedy No way, I like there's but obviously not close to the original never mind Vans
Listened to both versions... I don't think either can beat this version. Though my first love is Van's version.
E Kennedy the waterboys are obviously talented, but they changed the entire essence of the song! theirs was a totally new take, whereas hozier and jeff buckley's versions were definite tributes to van morrison
Goosebumps at 2:06 🥺
He is magical
This makes my heart so happy.
Sera Curran YES IT DOES!
This song reminds me of my dad who passed away two years ago. He was the sweetest man--as sweet as this beautiful song. God Bless.
Absolutely fabulous! Van Morrison is one of my fave artists--now I'll Hosier to the list. Thanks for sharing!
How I wish this was available as a single. I love it so much!
I’ve played my fingers bloody recreating this cover myself over and over again. I’ve never had a song mean more to me than this; family, friends, and lovers, all are moved when I play this version of this incredible song. I’m not a singer by any means but when I play this song I need to sing it and I belt it out. This is the only song I’ve ever sung while playing and it will probably remain that way.
This man is just fine, and his voice is everything.
I get Goose bumps on my scalp from listening to this...
Hi, I am Hozier and you're about to fall in love helplessly.

It hurts that it's true
So true...😍
I would love him to cover more of Van Morrison's beautiful songs.
I'm feeling such sweet things from him ...

Definitely should do more Van Morrison songs
Both great voices
I would love to hear him cover; into the mystic, moon dance, caravan, glad tidings, anything from early Van. I'm sure Hozier would nail it.
chad ghormley Yeah he really should cover Into the Mystic. My favorite song.
Into the Mystic and Tupelo Honey are the two I can really hear him singing in my head.
I totally agree with ya..
Is he the best male vocalist out right now??🤷🏻♂️😎❤️
Yep! ❤
Yes. No one else to compare
Why yes, yes he is!
Brings tears to my eyes every time.
that second he starts to sing.......my body feels like its melting into french vanilla ice cream on top of apple pie.
This is my favorite cover of all time. I have listened to it probably 1000 times now
Damn youtube reccomendations took long enough to bring this to me
Nothing in my life has ever attracted me more than when he sings you shall take me strongly in your arms again....I would bet everything I own I've watched this over a thousand times, it's becoming a problem!
My husband and I walked down the isle to this song (Hozier's cover). The first time I heard it I knew it was the one. I love it so much.
This is one of my favorite performances from him and I can't believe how amazing he sounds live. He took this song and made it so much better than the original
An artist with depth....it's rare, which is why he stands out so loudly. Love his work. I am a dancer and my heart sings when i hear him...I could choreograph to him forever and never get bored. Just lovely.
STUNNING. When somebody covers a song that was sung by an angel in the first place & the cover is as good as this, we know we've found a God! I can't get enough of This song.
I just saw this. Literally brought tears to the eye. I was immediately back in 69. That was fantastic, Hosier, and Van's music will never die when there are young people like you interpreting his beautiful songs. Astral Weeks rules! Thank you so much, you made my day.
Absolutely stunning, beautiful cover. Wow!
I grew up with Van Morrison, but good god this man can elevate any song to something completely different and magnificent with that voice of his and the expression he uses.
