Everyone knows that metal was invented in the year 666 norway when a viking dropped a stone on his big toe and screetched and did a deathmetal relief growl that was recorded into stones. Thats why there is a bunch of stones with writing in scandinavia, its not tales... They're lyrics.

Labels tend to get overused. One which is missing from this list (perhaps intentionally) but was used quite heavily back in the 90s was Speed Metal. It pretty much referred to bands/songs trying to increase riff speeds, solo speeds, etc. thus bands like Megadeth were often tagged with that label, even if they did not like this. For them, they were doing Heavy Metal, there's not much more do it.
If I have to choose from this list, I have to go with Thrash Metal. It's the most hardcore which still remain melodic. Rougher stuff like Death Metal just does not cut it for me, I'll gravitate towards rock much more easily.

I cut my teeth on Megadeth & Iron Maiden(I had a Killers shirt before I even heard them, Eddie’s a great marketing tool?). I picked up a bass guitar & at age 14in 1990 and began in Thrash but my most successful band was a death metal band called Dead Silence(there are other Dead Silences now but we we’re the first) got to play many gigs & open up for bands like Cannibal Corpse & Entombed amoungst others. That band broke apart at our Apex unfortunately & I walked away from playing for almost 20 years. I picked up in 2020 & found I was better now than then & I enjoy bands from all genres. I think we need something different now(alot of stuff sounds recycled to me these days but I can name two local Wisconsin bands that are amazing, Conniption out of Milwaukee, Their guitar player Bill House is fantastic! I like their album The Time has Come the best & Lords of the Trident out of Madison who ate kind of the Steel Panthers of power metal with their tongue & cheek style but amazing musicians. Check out Frostburn from them. That’s my favorite). Hard to choose a favorite from Sabbath & Priest to Obituary are my main stays & depends on what I’m in the mood for but Ill throw on a Jerry Reid country album or Waylon Jennings and get down to that too?
