  • I came home and found this detector going off and could not figure out how to shut it up. Took a bit but found the solution and now I want to share it with you.

    Thank You!. I like you, had the same problem with my alarm. i fought with it for three days, i ordered a replacement on amazon, (to be returned) i watched your video and got out my vacuum. i vacuumed it out , that still did not fix it. i walked away, and the next morning, i want back outside . the alarm was no longer going off. i opened the door and saw a green light. the first one i had seen in four days. i was so pleased.

      Honestly I am not sure what finally caused it to stop beeping. I know the fuse blew but also not sure why that happened either. Good news is it has not happened since and no further problems. Glad I could sort of help LOL

      If the problem returns, see my reply to Kevin George above, it may need a slightly better cleaning. That is, if the unit is not over 5 years in use.

    Winter, its been going off regularly. Luckily the only neighbor and out house has land distance and and he has a garage towards our fence line. Our electricity here in this small town we moved to goes off and on and even does a blink thing we barely see except our digital clocks go to zero or blink and we have to reboot our cable box sometimes and our wifi printer! Pain!

    I still have the original LP leak detector in my trailer, I should probably replace it since it's 10 years old. I haven't had your issue. I did move the power lead off the bus bar to downstream side of the Store/Use solenoid so when I switch to Store the LP leak detector is not powered on, that way there is no draw on the batteries. I still pulled the negative lead off the batteries when it storage.
    Now that I have 200w of solar on the roof and I've started to store the trailer on my driveway which gets full sun I don't have to worry about the batteries ever being low. I have two 6v Lifelines under our twin beds and use the old battery compartment on the A frame to store leveling blocks and a sewer hose slinky. We had a queen bed but had a twin bed remodel performed on our 2008 Airstream Classic 25fb.

      our batteries are in the same place as yours....I was surprised that we actually saved 50 pounds of tongue weight when we added them since they are so much heavier. I did not think they would be far enough back to make any difference.

  • @penumbranm

    This happened to me last night while camping. My CO detector went off at 3am for no apparent reason. No gas was turned on, the LP was off, nothing was even operating that night. We could not stop it from beeping. After trying everything under the sun, we finally discovered that these CO and LP detectors are hooked into the MAIN power supply of the RV. If they lose power for whatever reason, a blown fuse, a dead battery while boondocking, etc. they will start alarming. My solution? Disconnect these damn things from the RV and buy a standard CO detector that lasts 10 years. You'll never have to replace a battery and you won't get woken up in the middle of the night with false alarms.

    • @AirstreamNerds
      @AirstreamNerds  4 года назад +2

      That sucks being woken up for no reason but make sure you mount CO detector in similar location - knee height or lower. Also make sure you check the batteries annually - I have had several different types of detectors that say "last 10 years" and the batteries die way before that. I actually check my batteries during de-winterizing every year.

      Don’t forget to get a propane detector. It really sucks when your first indication of a propane leak is an explosion.

    The idiotic thing also has an end of life where no matter what you do, the alarm will not stop. At 3 am, mine hit that point. Neighbors dogs were barking and mine was howling. In my toy hauler, there is no free access to do any work ... I had to literally cut the wires, which then blew a fuse, and finally silence. I taped the wires, replaced the fuse, and now ordering a new unit for $100. I’d like to just put a battery operated one in, but they do not have the propane sensor ... ? A royal pain in the arse and a sleepless night!

    I really appreciate your posts. Thanks.
    I would like you to clarify your meaning of 'going off'. Are you stating that your LP detector was going off like a person would expect their smoke detector going off cautioning fire, or going off like a smoke detector chirping when the battery is bad?
    My detector suddenly started chirping. About every 45 seconds it will let out one chirp. Just one chirp, but constant. Every 45 seconds or so. Green light went away when the red light started blinking with the chirp.
    I'm wondering if we are speaking about the same problem.
    Thanks again and please keep us informed.

    • @AirstreamNerds
      @AirstreamNerds  3 года назад +1

      Mine was going off like a smoke detector in a smoke filled room...not the battery is low type chirp. And thanks for the compliment!\

    Mine kept going off around 8 am the detector is just 4 years old and I kept resetting it I checked and the tanks are shut off and I took out the fuse to see if it’s good. I put it back and now it’s just blinking green
