I have a few gramophones and all of them need the motors tore down cleaned and greased. I have been putting it off since I am scared stiff to attempt it. Thank you for your tutorial. It helps greatly.
Brett, I just cleaned and reassembled my first spring barrel (victrola VV-VI). First, thank you for all your videos, because I wouldn't even have attempted this without them. And second, whatever you're currently charging to do this work - it ISN"T ENOUGH! LOL
@1974hurt awesome and I have cleaned my spring barrel, and I see some plating that looks copper colored would that be any copper plating underneath the nickel plating?
Sir mines a 1902 model sdison can I use wd 40 on it. It doesn't crank up. The springs probably bad I'm almost afraid to take it apart any comments. Take care
It can be if you’re not careful. I have several videos on how to pack phonograph springs and I recommend you watch them. Wear gloves and face protection. Make sure you watch my videos on how to remove a Phonograph Springs from the spring barrels as well.
Thanks
I'm going to be doing this soon it was really helpful! Thank You!

I will agree. That old wheel bearing grease did dry out and harden.

It sounds like you need to replace the main springs
can you link where you get the green grease and your de greaser?
I get my Green Grease from the local O’Reilys automotive store, and Simple Green, what are use for my degreaser I get from Walmart or Lowe’s hardware
Can I use this method to clean all the parts of the motor? Also, do I have to dry the parts off as soon as possible?
Yes they need to be cleaned and dried immediately otherwise you’ll end up with rust.
Thank you so much!
Like a boss
Is packing them dangerous
