    I just tore down this same motor for my VV-XI. What a greasy mess. I cleaned it all…springs, barrels, gears…all of it. It’s back together now and working pretty smoothly. No more clanking and thumping.

      Erik, I believe I have the same and have not been brave enough to mess with the motor. Mine does make a knocking noise while playing. Is there a place I could learn about working on this you know of? I really do love it.

    • @erikrenner
      @erikrenner 3 года назад +1

      @@bigdaddyed88 The 'knocking' noise is most likely from all the old grease on the springs not allowing them to move smoothly causing them to slip. You could also have a broken spring. Don't be afraid, just dig in and tear it apart. I'd do it for you, but I live in Michigan and getting ready to move to Florida.

      If you open the motor compartment (carefully), wind it up and watch the motor spin…you will see when it stops and starts if it is slipping and clanking. Just let it wind down and watch it while doing so. When it stops and then starts again (slips)…that is when you will hear the ‘thunk’. It is supposed to turn smoothly, not stop and start. Wind it up before you remove the handle in order to open the compartment.

    The felt from a VV 50 I just found was stained with rust. Instead of scraping off the felt and gluing down one of the new synthetic pads, I applied an even amount of 3 tablespoons of oxalic acid granules to one cup of water onto the surface and let it sit for an hour. The felt is lovely and clean after a light shower in the sink.

      Repent and trust in Jesus. He's the only way. We deserve Hell because we've sinned. Lied, lusted stolen, etc. But God sent his son to die on the cross and rise out of the grave. We can receive forgiveness from Jesus. Repent and put your trust in him.

    Amazing! Spectacular beauty and marvelous sound. We had one in our household when I was growing up, but it wasn't in very good condition. Back then, 1970s, there wasn't much interest in early phonograph like now. You're very gifted. Thanks for a great video.

    Here is a great resource and step by step process on cleaning / restoring / refurbishing and XXVI and how to decide on exactly what to do. If done wrong it can actually devalue a Victoria. From the Victor Victrola web site www.victor-victrola.com/RESTORATION.htm

    What’s the best type of grease to use on the wound springs and the other areas that need to be
    Lubricated?
    We have a Model IV and it winds fine but slows as soon as you put the needle on the record so I’d like to attempt to clean and lubricate the entire mechanism but just not sure what grease to use?

      the springs more than likely not to be cleaned.the grease in mine had hardened to the point i couldn't get the springs till a lot of boiling water and soaking in solvent,i lost the footage of all that process but what some videos that spring ois 12' to 17' long under a lot of tension and dangerous but i believe i used red auto grease ,grease gun grease

      @vger13  4 года назад +1

      It was a process because the grease had became very hard
      I boiled outside in water a dawn dish soap
      Then while hot put into a tub with kerosene and agitate, varasol would have been better but it's like 3 times the price. I didn't want to take the springs out of the drums if I didn't have to and it worked out, but if you need to there is a very good video off it on RUclips

    Reproducer is not rebuilt properly. A powerful electrically recorded 78 from the 50s is not appropriate for an acoustic phonograph.
    Sounds horrible sadly.

    Repent and trust in Jesus. we deserve Hell for our sins. For example lying, lusing, saying God's name as a cuss word and stealing our just some examples of sin which we can all admit to doing at least one of those. For our sin we deserve death and Hell, but there is a way out. Repent anf trust in Jesus and you will be saved. Repentence is turning from sin. So repent and trust in Jesus. He will save you from Hell, and instead give you eternal life in Heaven.
