  • Helldivers is here with some horde shooting fun. I played the first Helldivers in coop with my brothers enough to get all the equipment. Loved pretty much every aspect of it. As far as I can tell so far the sequel is the same exact game but in 3rd person. We have a lot of the awesome tools we had before such as turrets, jetpacks, and plenty of guns.
    The Galaxy’s Last Line of Offence. Enlist in the Helldivers and join the fight for freedom across a hostile galaxy in a fast, frantic, and ferocious third-person shooter. This is a direct sequel to Helldivers which came out years ago. You fight a couple different alien types solo or with up to 3 friends. Switch up your gear with missiles from the sky or slow-inducing gas. All kinds of tolls can be used in combat in a variety of ways. And you will be fighting in different environments from the frigid cold mountains to the plant-infested rocky region. Take up arms and push back against the aliens who threaten humanity once more.

    Tip for the Spear (pun intended)
    Best used at range if you use it point blank you will whiff every time, also keep the dot in the middle of the lock on triangle otherwise it wont lock on

      Yea, it's basically a Javelin ATGM, it supposed to go up, THEN strike it's target from the top, being that tanks have paper thin armor on the top to only stop shrapnel

      @@johnuthus I guess again like a Javelin, the targeting system won't pick up on "smaller" target (my guess is because the heat signature is too small compared to a vehicle), but then again a Javelin isn't designed for anti-infantry💀

      Honestly it makes sense as it is a missile launcher it needs distance and time to reach terminal velocity

      You can also just use an eagle air strike, and take out like 3 at once with the right deployment angle.
      For extra fun bring servo-assisted armor. You can throw your eagle strke call in like 75meters haha.

      ​@Cyberghost2461 Bro all I run is Orbital Laser, Eagle Airstrike with max module upgrades, the Railgun, and shield generator. Then I run the Legionnaire light armor that gives 30% increase throwing distance. I can't play without it, now. Being able to precision Kobe grenades into nests or outposts and being able to chunk that Eagle from a safe distance onto a base or nest is so nice

      @@janmoravek820 lol ya, you caaan but I dunno why I would wana throw my suppy drop 75m away into a crowd of enemies 😅.you also have to have the beacon land like DIRECTLY beside it. Easier to just grenade or airsrtrike them

    Biggest reason for "unreliable" lock on is that the third-person reticle is WAY bigger than the actual lock-on cone, use first person to see your actual targeting zone and never struggle with wobbly locks again

      That and with structures i found that you just have to aim around the base of them from level ground with zero obstacles or alternatively get much higher than the area you are shooting and it will lock on from a much greater distance.

      False. I always use the spear in first person and I can still stare directly at an enemy base, tank, or whatever for a full minute without a hint of locking on...

      Better than AIM-7s that even though you've got a solid radar lock sometimes just decide that, "you know what? 90 degree turn, fucker, I'm killing that teammate!"

      They should have an option where if you use the Spear without locking on, it just hits whatever you are aiming at, allowing for laser guided/fly by wire adjustments to the targeting.

    You know what’s crazy, it’s actually accurate to real life, lock on features are use for range engagements so up close action they do tend to miss targets

      As someone who worked on Jav targeting platform and got to live test it with my own two hands. It doesn't matter if it misses by a foot or more. Worked directly with the Jav Gunners in the army for which we serviced them. The impact and effective kill radius on heavily armored vehicles alone, allows it to nail a target as close as 20yards from the launch position. Which is a problem for the obvious reason that it puts the user in harms way. There was shrapnel of tank and missile parts as deep as 8 inches deep into a concrete barrier that was 2 feet thick.
      Even if the missiles explosive detonation system doesn't engage, the impact alone is deadly, even for a tank.
      Which is why we train the troops not to use it on anything that isn't at least 60yards away. Additionally, they don't often miss, even close targets. Which is why the army loves them so much. Two weeks to learn, one minute to use, 3 seconds to kill.

      The problem with the Spear isn't the lock on range, its the fact that it will often times refuse to lock on to things for no reason. You could be looking at a bile titan from an optimal distance and the thing will struggle to gain a lock. There's also the fact that you can only use resupply packs to get more ammo and only one missile per pack at that.

      The spear gets ammo from ammo packs on the ground now, and gets 2 per resupply brick. It’s vastly better in the ammo economy department.
      In terms of locking, back up, get high ground, and make sure you have a clear unobstructed view of the target. It’s an optical seeker that can’t lock on if it doesn’t recognize the target, so give it a little help and it’ll do great

    Fun fact auto cannon can also destroy those bases just gotta hit those lids above the holes from mostly head on and if you angle it right it will detonate it. : )

      even headon with a good angle it can be pretty inconsistent. you'll start taking fire and getting hit and start flinching and it becomes even harder. let's remember that while the autocannon CAN do that, it's extremely inconsistent and you shouldn't run the autocannon if this is the reason you're doing it.
      just bring eagle 110s.

      @@j.d.123 "but no one realizes it lol" pretty much everyone who ever threw a hangrenade to destroy a building does ... its just that the autocannon is much more usefull vs bots in general than the grenade launcher is, which is why its not being brought often there.
      even vs bugs people would usually rather bring an autocannon as it "can" 2-3 hit kill chargers when hitting their rear legs from behind
      but then again .. everyone and their mother brings railguns as they are simply overpowered and need a nerf (slower charge, slower reload, less max ammo)

    I use the spear religiously, absolutely love it. Pair it with the rail cannon orbitals and you can just wipe out elites.
    Edit: Blah blah railgun better, screw the meta I like big rocket. Let people use what they want. Who cares, we all fight for the same cause.
    Moral of the story, use what you find fun! Don't listen to these nerds. Have fun in the name of democracy!

    The "spear" is based on the Javelin, and it needs a minimum distance in order to ignite.

    Are we forgetting about assisted reloads? Almost ever weapon that gets called down gets 100% better when someone else reloads you

      But no amount of team reloading will fix the way the lock on works aside from a patch. I’ve all but sworn off the spear because of its horrible lock on.
      Edit: also he did say something about team loading and didn’t say the reloads was a downside.

    Saying it has crap lock on is a massive understatement. You can literally be on top of a hill/tower with 360 degree field of view and nothing obstructing.... and still watch a bile titan slowly walk up in your face while it refuses to lock on.
    That being said reloading seems to instant lock on if you hold down the aim once that animation finishes which is great for a follow up shot..

    I should also mention: It currently can’t perform its intended role of tank busting correctly due to how it’s tracking is bugged. It’s supposed to travel above the target then swoop down for a top attack, however it currently always flies straight head on. Now for most targets, this doesn’t much matter… however for tanks, it’s intended to take advantage of the Automaton tank’s vulnerability to damage that comes from straight above. So this weapon meant to be the end all be all in tank clearing instead takes three shots to destroy something it’s meant to take out in two, if not one. (Ps, if your ever above a tank with a disposable or recoilless, try blasting it’s turret from that angle!)

      Rail gun is better. Rail gun and one of the rovers or multiple call ins. Orbital Rail cannon, orbital laser, and eagle 110mm rockets. All 3 of those lock on to enemies and will one shot chargers and take out titans.

      had it many times where it perfectly shot at it and the thing was still alive
      500kg bomb perfectly landing inside it while at full hp can fail to kill it instantly, too

      ​@@medojed8266but if you go too far, the weapon refuses to lock on anything. It becomes yellow, green for a fraction of a second then bounces between no lock on and starting to lock without ever tagging a target. This weapon will absolutely get you killed by being incapable to lock on things at important times, like cannon turrets or tanks.

    They oughta just make it 1 shot anything it’s capable of locking on to. Using 2 for 1 tank / large enemy just isn’t worth it

      I agree. But if it manages to hit a vital area it can 1 shot it. I’ve dropped Chargers, Titans, and Hulks with 1 missile because it slammed into their heads

      ​@@Taco_78Yeah, but it's a lock-on guided weapon, it should always hit that vital area, not just when it decides it wants to. It should only ever fail if you're too close for a sensible trajectory.

      ​@@DarkShadow84 there's actually a trick to getting a vital shot I've found - firing from the direction of the vital spot, I.E. shooting a titan head on, has a very good chance of headshotting it, or shooting a charger from behind has a good chance of hitting its ass sack thing and putting it down; However, I do agree with you, it should seek vitals. And I also think it should have a dumb-fire mode similar to how the EAT-17 works, accessible from the Reload Menu. ​

    Or, if you know anything about how the Javelin works (that’s the launcher the Spear is based on), you’ll know 2 things:
    1.) The missile is SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED to be launched from long range, hence why it doesn’t work well when the enemy is 20 feet away or less
    2.) It’s meant to take out slow armored targets, which is why it sometimes has trouble locking on to faster ones

    I honestly think the lock on being scuffed feels good and immersive, that hurried desperate few seconds of trying to get on target, as the bile titan creeps closer before finally nailing the lock on and firing feels so good

    Tips: Granade luncher 1 shot bases too from distance ... I just need a bit of adjustment to shoot the vents on top but you dont have to sacrifice a backpack for that also if you pairing it with the supply backpack you have 80 free granade to spam

      And it can clear bug hives at range. It's my favorite weapon for those reasons. Super versatile

    I haven't issues. Keep at distance and use your sentries and or orbital laser for backup to handle large number hordes. And have your buddy load your spear with them holding your backpack. Teamwork makes the dream work

    It can bleed out the bugs easily. The lock on can't be obstructed and has a limited range requirement, but makes up for it with the power ot has when it does hit. As said, it's best against bugs and as a support role

    BTW, if you get the right angle (head-on basically) for far away enough, it one shots titans and chargers by simply erasing it's head from existence

    I love using the spear and love it, especially on maps with low visibility since the lock-on isn't affected. The lock on is finicky, but that wiff you have is because you are too close.
    It does need to be either reloaded without resupply or a supply should give 2-3 spears. It shouldn't eat an entire resupply drop to fully reload.

    I started using the spear yesterday and I love it. My buddy usually handles large groups and nests while I take out all charges and titans. Having tons of fun pairing the spear with the orbital railcannon

    The Spear is also amazing for the destroy automaton fabricator missions cause it one shots them and has about 50m lock-on range (I’ve only used it a few times so it could be longer) honestly the single biggest buff it could get is the backpack holding one extra rocket

      Well... Good news! Ammo pickups were buffed recently!
      And uncertain if it's just me, but I tend to be able to lock-on to fabricators up to 130m. Afterwards it becomes massively iffy. (130m in visual range, no major obstacles)

    I ran an ammo backpack for a buddy that was using a spear and we were dominating. He also ran an ammo back pack that he would drop for me so we constantly had ammo for the spear.

    Thanks for the video. Because of the sucky lock on haven’t played with it much after the first few attempts, but now knowing it can take out a base makes it a bit more functional. Thanks for the video🖖🏿

    The only reason I sometimes use it is because it can take out both jammers and Eye of Sauron from the distance. Pretty neat

    Your example pretty much shows that the lock-on works as intended if used below its minimum range.

    Spear is definitely a must have when you got a full stack, but for solo and duo play auto cannon or railgun are going to be a better choice

    When working with a group that communicates I love it *when it works*, especially on bots, save it for tanks and taking out bases from far away without putting a stratagem on cooldown

    Don't forget, you might not have a freely usable beefy weapon, but that's when you depend on your fellow Divers to deal with the smaller threats while you deal with the Chonkers

    Tip for the spear , wait until the enemy is facing you and you have range so you get that sweet headshot

    I've been using this for a while. When I'm with other guys to cover the weaknesses with other supports, I have an easy time killing bile titans. It takes a little getting used to, but I love it.

    autocannon also wipes out fabricators and bug holes in one shot, from any range, with no lockon and it has 60 rounds of ammo (10+50).
    It also two-shots tower cannons, AA guns, mortars, loads of side objectives (spore spewers, illegal broadcasts etc) and most enemies if you know where to aim.
    Autocannon is the GOAT, use it more everybody.

    Another idea for the Spear - although it would be hard to develop / in a way that the devs didn’t intend it to work: Make it laser guided! Aim at something and fire - maintain line of sight and rocket will automatically align itself to target. No lock-on, you just need to keep tracking and maintaining line of sight with the target.
    That, or make it so that it requires 2 people to operate, have a friend look through a laser designator so that you can fire and “forget”, leave the target tracking to your trustworthy (hopefully) fellow helldiver

      Honestly, this. Though if it were to be fully used we would need a designation tool, else the effectiveness will be reduced. (Sacking either visibility, or a support weapon)

    This is what guided munition gives you. Lock on timer, devastating damage. 100% accuracy. It is way to accurate. So accurate that it will hit the wall on the way there, meaning that it nows exactly where you are at all times. However, it dies not know that you are behind the wall. And it is fairly easy to counter

    Because it’s accurate to its irl counterpart, the javelin AND stinger platforms are notorious for having spotty yet powerful lock on systems with an equally spotty yet powerful missile tracking system

    Hold the trigger while locking on. If it turns green for even a fraction of a second it’ll fire. This thing is amazing for bots: 1shot cannon turrets, 1shot fabricators, 1-2 shot tanks, 2shot hulks all at FAR range. Just need to make sure you have a clear line of sight, and being Obi Wan helps (I HAVE THE HIGH GROUND!)

    Oh i love the spear, i take it almost every time. I like playing the heavy support character. And once sniping a titan from across the map whilst my friends were running from it was so satisfying. 😊

    The spear is like a 9 to 5 worker paid a little more than minimum wage. It shows up, does its job well enough and it *DARES* you to demand more so it can resign.

    Well, I probably wouldn't have used it for any reason being a lock on weapon in close quarters combat, but destroying bases from a distance is absolutely huge.
    Been using the walking barrage to try speed running some bases because it can eliminate some of them and the enemy runs to the point of throwing the charge to begin searching for you. Saved us a lot of time since they were looking for us and we'd left the area lol

    Its not meant to be a close ranged weapon. It either wont lock on, or you will miss. The rocket fires UP then down. And its important to be looking straight at either a charger or a titan. Otherwise the shot wont kill. If successfull, their heads will blow up.

    Spear is god tier against bots as it will annihilate bases at a ridiculous across the map type range. As well as providing heavy fire support for your team at large. It's best with longer range weapons and supportive strategems for staying out of the direct fighting. By far one of the most satisfying weapons to use. Be mindful of the angel, that's the reason it won't lock as the targeting angel is precise and requires a graceful hand and patience.

    Fun fact:when using the spear to destroy structures or enemies, if you one shot them, it’s a stealth kill and you don’t alert the enemy

    Having a spear on a team is the best thing ever. 4+1 rockets every 5 minutes, with potential resupply, the ability to bust gun towers and bot fabs from a distance, killing tanks or hulks in one hit?
    There's too much to love about the spear.

    You know what’s wild? Is the spear missing in this clip and target locking sucking is probably a glitch. However, because the lore of the game is so gritty and rich I actually have no problem with that. It makes it feel more real… like yes I can choose to take the spear which is a strong weapon, however the draw back is that it’s known to not always operate properly. Same as a bunch of real world military equipment in service today (thank god we got rid of the M249 SAW, if you know, you know). This game does an amazing job at making the bugs in this game feel like features and part of the lore of Super Earth’s Helldivers and… it’s just great.. No other game I can think of has ever pulled that off.
    Now get out there and spill some oil! For Super Earth! For sweet liberty! For democracy!

    I find an absolutely hilarious and interesting that a lot of the stuff from Hell divers and starship troopers in general is that everything is someway is sourced from an event or weapon From our current reality, this one is most apparent because everyone who is American knows about the javelin anti-tank missile

    Hold in fire even before locking on, it speeds up lock on and fires as soon as it’s green, this ups the reliability and speed by a solid 15%
    First person for range, third person for problems.
    Using it in first person is a tighter cone, but is affected by terrain more.
    Using it in third person allows you to ignore more terrain but your aiming cone is everywhere.
    Walking left and right can be enough, chase the triangle.
    Don’t try from beneath cliffs, anything overhanging you can drastically affect the weapon and make it useless.
