Really liked how you have your intro playing in the background on the TV. COOL! Your videos are always straight forward, to the pont and easy to follow. Thanx again for helping with my video magic.
Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. Actually, I got complaints that the animated background was distracting so I now have a static background. You must be young at heart because I like it too and I tested it with younger people and they loved it. Oh well.
THANK you for this. This far on, still hugely helpful! the ONLY thing I was missing is unlinking the audio track, it kept moving that along with the video since I imported the two of them as a combined unit. Anyone who is having issues, just unlink the audio and you're good!
Wow, thanks so much; fast, simple, straight forward and absolutely solves the issue, even now, years later. I appreciate all your video lessons, thanks again
Thanks a billion. Just went through a bunch of sites telling me to use garbage masks along with 10 or so more steps, and I just was thinking to myself, "There`s gotta be an easier way to do this" And then along came your video! Thanks again
Just discovered your channel and I love it! Really clear instructions, nice style, and not too busy trying to be all in-your-face Joe cool!!! Thank you!
Thank you, man. I wasted 2 hours to find out how this things SHOULD be done. Freaking assholes trying to teach me to use After Effects for "hole" in my clip. Your tutorial simple as hell and i think it's the right way to do this sort of things.
@@VideoRevealed HEY, really appreciate your comment! I've actually been asking my friends and haven't been able to get a good response. I want to play a video displayed in the blank image of a phone viewable on top of another video. Both playing. While I've succeeded at this, I really want to cut the corners out of the video because it looks really raw and edgy, and doesn't fit the screen. I made 4 opacity masks using the bezier pen you shared, but every time I invert it, only one corner is masked out. Transparency is on. I believe the phone is cropped with the circle, and the crop is edged in around the phone. How do I get all 4 corners of the screen to smoothen out on top of an image of a phone, while having a second video (main) play in the background, and the opacity masks to function, while keying it to pull the majority of the phone off the screen, to then hold for some time throughout the video, then pull up again?
There's only so much you can do with Premiere Pro. It's not really meant to do complex visual effects. After Effects is much better and Mocha is really the best choice. Something that can take hours in Premiere Pro can take seconds in Mocha. Even the free version of Mocha that comes with AE is very powerful and all you need. Personally I hate rotoscoping and it's just difficult to do with crappy footage that's why I don't have any tutorials on that. Here is a very good tutorial for screen replacement: ruclips.net/video/VYxN1g9pjOg/видео.html
@@VideoRevealed I appreciate your suggestion. However, I'm not really looking to do something that is that complex. It's just a stock image of a phone, white with nothing on it (blank), with a screen displaying a cropped video, which doesn't look all that bad because I've rounded the corners out a bit to not make it look so edgy. If I can, I'd like to also move those two units down to the bottom of the screen to remain there for a portion of the video while playing back the 2nd video, until I pull it back up again to make the connection. It has to be possible. Is this doable?
@@VideoRevealed Okay, I figured it out. I just removed the 4 opacity masks, and cropped the video just as I did the phone, so the screen's edges were in line with the outer edges of the phone's body.
Thank you Colin...again you do a great job of explaining and it is appreciated. If you are looking for a subject in the future my pain lately is do an interview and then trying to even up the audio levels...lavaliers are not possible because everything is on the fly...so it's one good directional zoom mike but still a loud me and not as loud them...in Audition it also brings up the background noise..try that in a mall interview...Again thank you so much for your very helpful contributions
+Bob Hamilton - Thanks so much for the kind words and support. For a job like you mentioned, it would be a two-step process; clean up the noise then balance the volume. Here are two tutorials that just might get you there: ruclips.net/video/No5SZSi0iZI/видео.html ruclips.net/video/_bSf1Wr2nEg/видео.html
Even if there was a solution (which there isn't), there will always be more new innovations in newer versions of software. Always. That's how software is developed. If you are going to stick with an older version, that's fine, but you need to accept the fact that old versions don't do what new versions do.
Say you need to mask out two windows of a building on the same video clip. But when the clip starts you only see one window. The camera pans and reveals the second window. So you make the opacity mask and check the inverted box, for the first window. Now, the second window comes into frame, you make the mask, you also check inverted but it does not work the same way as the first time. How do you make it so both clips are inverted so the video layer below shows? What is the trick with the second mask?
Inverting the mask is only meant to work with a single mask. The mask mode you want is called "add" but it's only available in After Effects. The only way to do what you want is to duplicate the clip to another track and mask that one separately.
No I don't because that involves tracking video which is a very tough thing to do. It wouldn't surprise me if 90% of RUclipsrs compressed video would fail when tracking. If you really want to explore removing backgrounds/objects with camera movement, then search for Mocha tutorials.
Very helpful, thank you! I'm working on a current video for my channel, and I tried making multiple inverted opacity masks on one , but it seems only the first one works. My workaround was to slice the image clip into separate layers, each layer containing a separate area to be masked, and that's working. Maybe I'm missing a toggle or something else, but it surprised me I can only do one inverted mask per clip.
A lot lo helpful video!! Thanks a lot. I actually didn't want to remove the part that I am trying to edit but make it visible over a time so I can use time option for that. Again Thanks a lot!!
Outstanding video! I have a BIG problem. I have a shot of a cable car moving. I'm panning to follow the cable car. The background is moving thru the frame as I follow the cable car. I have a piece of dust, on the sensor, that I didn't see when shooting. I know how to make the mask and track it. But is there a way to eliminate the dust spots from the sensor while the background inside the opacity mask changes? I'm using Pr. can I do this without using Ae or Ps. I can't afford them. Thanks, Jerry
+Jerry Roe - Unfortunately, this is very difficult to fix. You would have a hard time doing it in After Effects and only slightly easier in Mocha Pro. Premiere Pro does not have any tools to fix it.
You need to finish drawing the second mask as a closed path before you see anything. Make sure you click on the first point to finish the mask. If you have the first mask Inverted, then drawing the second mask will not work.
That's a very difficult job and beyond this tutorial. For that you need to create a "clean plate". That's a clip where the foreground element is removed. That's an extremely difficult job and usually requires a team of roto artists. Watch this to see just how difficult real roto is: vimeo.com/72848512
Your tutorial is great. Thank you. I'm using CS6. I do not see the little icons below opacity that you're talking about. All I have is a slider that allows me to change the percentage of the opacity and under that there's velocity and blend mode but that's it. Do I need a new were version of Premier? Is there another effect that I can add that would do the same thing?
VideoRevealed Thanks, that’s what I figured. That won’t be happening unless I absolutely need something for work, but I don’t anticipate that. I don’t believe in renting software even though I know that’s the trend. I’ll stick with CS6 for now. I actually found another tutorial for doing what I want to do in CS6. So all is not lost. Again, your tutorials are great.
Thank you soooo very much. I assume I can use that also keyframing and moving position, if the desired area moves within the shot? Mainly I want to use it to do a "swipe-reveal" effect with a logo, for the opening sequence for my (other) RUclips Chanel. I'll try it and then come back.
@@VideoRevealed had a tiny trouble finding out the "clock icon is a button" to do it, but finally got to it for my "swipe" kinda' effect. Thanks again.
great presentation. why does adobe make it so complicated? they have a cropping tool for left-right etc. next to that tool they have the same pen you showed us. why isn't that a free form cropping tool?
There is a free form cropping tool, and that's the Free Draw Bezier tool in the Opacity property. It's really the exact same thing as a Garbage matte. The great thing about all the masking tools is, once you learn them for the Opacity property, they are the same for every single effect you use. Am I missing something from your question?
Search for Mary Poplin and Mocha. She is the rotoscoping goddess. She will show you how to get Hollywood quality results but get ready for some incredibly tedious work!
+Bilal Shah Every effect has its own mask controls, are you twirling down the triangle beside Opacity in the Effects Controls? Also, make sure you've updated to the latest Creative Cloud version as there have been quite a few updates since it was released.
You have to use something like Photoshop or After Effects to paint out the unwanted objects. I will have a tutorial on using Photoshop to remove objects from video on August 6,!
I am have a problem and maybe you can help? I select my video layer in the timeline. Under the Effect Tools I select the Pen Tool under "Opacity". In the program panel, I create a box around an object using the pen tool. When I complete my box/mask coming back to the starting point, the background does NOT turn black. The blue box I created for the mask just sits there? This tells me the mask is not working, At one point it worked this way. What am I missing?
Drawing a mask around the outside of a video will not remove anything inside the mask. If you want to remove something, you need to draw a mask around just that part. BUT, the Opacity mask can only mask out one thing at a time. Try this technique instead: ruclips.net/video/m0h5JnT82aY/видео.html
That's not something that can be done by you or me. Industrial Light and Magic could do it but it would takes weeks or months and cost thousands. Removing letters isn't the hardest part, it's filling in the background that's next to impossible.
Very good video !!! I have a problem that is more complicated, I have a moving shot where the background is not static... and I have to remove a Lens flare. Could you help me with that, please ?
You need After Effects to do something like that. If you're just trying to remove the flare and keep anything that is showing through the transparent pixels, that would be next to impossible. You might need Industrial Light and Magic to do a convincing job because I know I couldn't.
Thanks for showing this but after drawing around an object in with the pen tool under opacity, nothing is being cut out. I have turned the video off in the layer below and all I see is the full image with the bezier trace around the object I want to keep. I am trying to trace around a talking head so I can add blur to the back ground. Any thought on what I'm doing wrong. Just install Adobe Premiere CC 2015 after using garbage mattes in previous versions.
Carolyn Davies Make sure your mask is closed. When you draw it, you need to click on the first point with the pen tool to close the path. You'll see a small circle when you get near the point showing that you're about to close the path. If you did close the path, then I'm not sure what's not working. Can you just try to take the headshot into a new sequence and draw a new shape and see if it works? Let me know what happens.

Thank you for this tutorial! This was exactly what I was looking for. :) Gotta use those Oppacity masks!
Absolutely! Thanks for the support.
Another Awesome Tutorial!
Thanks!!
You're welcome.
Thank you very much. It helps in my project.
That's great to hear.
Working on a project- this really helped me thank you!
Awesome.
Thank you very much! Simple and effective! Helped me a lot!
+Wagner Cursino - Awesome.
Pretty Awesome! Is it possible to remove a Title "crawl" from the video please? Thanks A Million!
That's not something that can be done by you or me. Industrial Light and Magic could do it but it would takes weeks or months and cost thousands.
Removing letters isn't the hardest part, it's filling in the background that's next to impossible.
Excellent video!
Thanks.
Thanks! Great tutorial :)
Glad it was helpful!
Very Good, Sir. Thanks.
You're welcome.
Nice job! Keep it up!
Thanks, will do!
